I can usually deal with this stuff, but today i have finally snapped. This is getting ridiculous!!! Has the world gone mad? Have we lost all shreds of common sense! What on Earth can we do to fix all of this! Is no one else banging their heads against the wall!!!

- France is thinking of banning the Burka in some places, even for people who WANT to wear them
- Certain European countries have banned the little towers on mosques, something akin to banning a cross on the tops of churches if I am not mistaken
- Australia is banning things left right and center, setting their standards like in 198-fucking-4
- In China, the ability to make cheap little plastic toys are more important than workers rights
- Religious nuts in the US are getting ridiculous amounts of attention and air time
- People are scientifically arguing that the world will end in 2012
- China doesn't give two shits what the world thinks of them anymore
- Canada is going frigging insane with its Olympic regulations
- The economy is in the crapper, yet thousands and thousands of people are spending way beyond their means
- The media is filled with more private interests than ever before
- And the cherry on top, this generation is going to live shorter lives than the last one, a trend not seen since the f*cking DARK AGES!!!
I...i just... this is all so..... AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGGG!!!!! *thump*

What can we do? What do you do? How do you cope? What is some light news?

Bad news sell and are somehow more interesting. There also is a lot more bad than good that gets told as news.

Try to avoid getting hit too badly by the awful information flood. It's momentarily damaging. You don't exactly need to know all that negative stuff. Just shut it out.

You want light news? Mass Effect is Awesome!

There you go, light news.

OT: I cope because I know that I'm one of the few (and getting fewer) people who are smart enough to outlive those stupid fuckers and eventually create a better society.

So bad things are happening in the world, that's nothing new. Way I see it we have things pretty good these days. We don't have to worry about the black plague, at least the economy's stronger than it was in the great depression, racism's down for the most part, the world's a global village, technology's pretty damn good, people can be Gay, Communist, Atheist or even Bi without fear of complete oppression. If there's one thing I've learnt in my travels it's that the more you have the more you take for granted, and all too often people seem all the more grateful for everything when the world gets 'em down. And every time I come here on the escapist I've got some user telling me how the worlds going down the shitter and that there's zero hope for mankind, I mean sure the world aint perfect but it's the only one we have for now and this is the one shot at life you get so for goodness sake don't spend all day bitching about it.

I usually just pop on my headphones, blare some music, play some video games and perhaps read a book. For that time, all if right with the world... Until my Dad turns on the 11 'o' clock news. >_< I've been hearing about the blasted Winter Olympics since the Beijing Olympics ended, I can't wait until they're over.

Quite simple, there is nothing you can do. I try to make people lives around me a little more enjoyable, it's the best I can do under the circumstances. How do I cope? Just put up my feet and enjoy the ride as we circle the drain. As for light news... not much of that around, I would advise you to look a little closer to home that is simple and enjoyable (time with girlfriend/boyfriend etc) cliched I know but it's your best bet.

We're going to live shorter lives? Why?
From my understanding: Drugs, STD's are more prevelant and deadly, smoking and second hand smoke is killing us off, obesity and heart disease has reached insane levels (in my part of teh world anyways), weakness due to sitting at computers for hours on end, skin cancer cause our ozone layer is fucking GONE!!!, and probable occurances that will result from global warming such as natural disaster, famine, war and disease.
That's why.
Then again, this generation hasn't died yet, so this is just a projection

I realize all of this, but that doesn't stop some people from wanting to put their heads through a brick wall. I realize that there is good in the world, in fact i think there is more good than evil. In fact, i think that humans are MASSIVELY good creatures, we just make some really shitty moves. BUt this is all just stupid stuff, stuff that we should be able to fix, not even stuff like global warming and climate change, that shit is hard, but this stuff is simple common sense. So, i hope you'll forgive me for getting a little irked.

People are idiots.

Put in your ipod, turn on some music, and forget about it all.
Too bad that music has been assembled on a factory line, manufactured with the express purpose of making you support the bullshit. Do you know what we need people? Rock and Roll! I mean real rock and roll, back when people were about the music, about having fun and telling anyone who tried to stop them to fuck off. Not pre-teens who make crappy pop music, call themselves rockstars, and want Fame/Money/Girls/All of the above. That's why things got this shitty. The rock just stopped and without it to hold back the bullshit, everything went down the crapper. Thanks a lot Michael Jackson. You helped Corporate America come to power, by tempting all those people hypnotized by your dancing/penis/dancing penis away from the true path, allowing those soulless mother fuckers to get their dicks in the whole and start bum-fuckign. We need bands descended from AC/DC, Van Halen, Led Zepplin, Freackin' Chuck Berry, all that shit. Rock and Roll has defeated this kind of bullshit in the past, and it can do so again.

We roll tonight, to the guitar band. And for those about to rock... I salute you...

That's better.

OT: Humans suck. What else is new?

I for one think we should start our own little community in the Himalayas, and name it "Escapistopia".
Sadly 4 of the 5 kittens died after being put back in the shelter due to overcrowding and very low adoption rates. The 4th was put to sleep because it was a gift to a 12 year old girl and she microwaved it. (Volunteer at a shelter, you would be amazed how common this is)

Welcome to reality. All you can do is take care of your own little space, buy guns to defend it, and pay your bills to keep the police off your front step. Every day a new fanatic gets air time to spout their garbage, another farming family goes out of business due to law suits by miss appropriated genetically altered Monsanto seeds, and Citi group earns another 1 billion of your money.

Just do what i do. Think of this as business as usual for humans and take satisfaction in knowing one day our minds probably will evolve to a point where we get over the primitive survival instincts. Has to happen eventually, notice that we have gotten significantly less savage in the past few thousand years. That is, unless, we become extinct.

This leads to the "Don't care unless it affects me" train of thought. It's better for your health.

PS. Right and wrong have no real meaning. -warning, really depressing text ahead- Nothing really matters. If you think about it, nothing can have a ultimate purpose. You don't need to care. In the end there are no consequences.

How negative emotion cycles is a *****. Don't worry, if the world is going to hell, there is nothing you can do to help. And if there is you won't.

Better?

Seems like everything is getting pushed to the brink, huh?
Well maybe someday soon the brink will push back, and then the fun will really start. Enjoy the ride, take risks, don't think about things too hard, never trust anything anyone tells you, and realize that the only way to survive a broken system is to exist outside of it.
Good luck, and when it hits the fan get behind me, I'll be the one in the awesome looking mask.

I don't think there are enough women on the forums...
Person with second most posts is a chick :O
Who is that? And who is the most?
On the internet men are men, women are men and children are the FBI.

And I wouldn't worry about the way things are going.

Worry will probably make the problems worse.

To be fair, it is a fairly basic economic theory that expenditure is the only way to escape a depression. If no one spends, no jobs are created, so just as many if not more people are unemployed, leading to less money to spend, etc, etc. On the other hand, though, people spending more money than they have is never a good idea.

Most of your points are valid, I just had to point this one out.
