-Warning, very depressing thread -
- France is thinking of banning the Burka in some places, even for people who WANT to wear them
- Certain European countries have banned the little towers on mosques, something akin to banning a cross on the tops of churches if I am not mistaken
These two I have no problem with. Islam has nearly destroyed free speech in Holland. The Burka represents opression of women and a view that the French do not and will not tolerate in their country. Yes, I can see how someone can disagree with me and the French governments position, but it's their country.

Australia is banning things left right and center, setting their standards like in 198-fucking-4
Er, not really. I'm in Australia at the moment visiting my grandparents and I've spent years here. The US have more censorship than Australia, alot more. It's just that Australia don't have an R rating for their video games. Speaking as someone who lives in the United States, I can honestly say that Australia is the nicer place to be.

This has been happening for ages. But yeah, it's horrible.

- Religious nuts in the US are getting ridiculous amounts of attention and air time
Maybe, but the general public doesn't really buy into it. I like the way you are complaining about religious nuts getting air time, but you are against banning the burka. A pretty slight contradiction, but a contradiction none the less.

- Religious nuts in the US are getting ridiculous - People are scientifically arguing that the world will end in 2012
Yep, once again this has been happening for ages. This type of stuff was going on before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye.

- China doesn't give two shits what the world thinks of them anymore
They sure don't. But nor does the US. Yes, China is a step further - but I don't think it's a huge big problem.

So?

- The economy is in the crapper, yet thousands and thousands of people are spending way beyond their means
Not entirely true. Countries are slowing climbing out of the recession. The UK is officially out. Yes, it's still hard work - but it's improving.

- The media is filled with more private interests than ever before
This is worrying. Entertainment and information is nearly completely fused in Western culture.

- And the cherry on top, this generation is going to live shorter lives than the last one, a trend not seen since the f*cking DARK AGES!!!
That's not true at all. Most sources say that we'll live longer than the last. Either way, it's not confirmed.

It's not really. We live in very good times. Don't believe me? Ask your grandparents about civil rights, the depression and the world wars.
