The rules.
Read them.
Obey them.
If you do not, then you will be dropped ass-first into a pit of spikes.
If we miss a spike, you are hauled back up so we get a mulligan.

If you get into an "argument" with someone, do not call them any vulgar names or insult them.
If it gets to that point, LEAVE the thread, and ignore any quotes you may get from that person.
Let them screw up.

If you comment on how many times I used "if" in this post, feel free to go hug a mutated bloodthirsty cactus.

And enjoy your stay.

Don't blantantly express your views on a game that you think is fail. Take time to explain why you dislike or hate the game rather then, "z0mg, C0ck 0f Dood!E 5 sux compaared to Call Of Win 5" or "Halo 3 be@t$ teh sh!t out of Fail-Life 2."
Concur in full.

[yoda]Your memes.

You will not need them.[/yoda]
Nice.

My Warning: If you came over from IMDB's message boards, and you ever started a thread about DBZ and X-Men characters squaring off, run as far away from these forums as you possibly can. You're welcome in advance.

Several warnings, lol, mod humor...

Report and move on, do not respond to the offending poster, the mods tend to lump you in the same category as him when it's time to lay down the law.

This site appears intelligent and mature, but people on it tend to be pretty self-righteous and arrogant, just check out any politics or religion thread, you'll see what I mean.

Don't become a slavering Yahtzee cultist, just don't.

The mods here are strict, but pretty fair in most cases, so give them a thanks for all their hard work every so often.

Contribute to a discussion when you post in it, a lot of people here will report you for low-content posts (like just saying "I agree with him" on a debate thread, the mods actually want substance), mods take a dim view of it and I've seen more than a few probations handed out for it.

Do not make "USE THE SEARCH BAR!" your entire post, as the TF2 heavy says "Cry some more" at least contribute to the discussion if you're going to scold someone for posting a repeat thread.

Things people here need to just stop whining about and shut up: Halo, WoW, consoles, PCs, and whatever other crap people like to complain about on here.

If you must use memes, at least make them funny, we've all seen them several thousand times and we need something good to make us laugh at them.

A lot of people like or at least are fairly neutral towards anime, if you hate anime and think that anyone who watches it is an obnoxious 15 year-old who won't watch anything not featuring hot ninja chicks then go somewhere else where people care to listen to you.

No threads of the "Would Goku beat Superman in a fight" variety, to you more seasoned folks, these are called Vs. threads.

Be a mentor rather than a dick, if someone really is factually wrong about something, let them know, don't do it with opinions or you're just a self-righteous little prick.

Be prepared for a long debate if you post your opinion in a politics/religion thread, your views will almost certainly be challenged.

For goodness sake, don't disagree with the experts on something unless you actually are qualified to do so, some random guy disagreeing with people who've been studying something their entire lives (talking mainly science/history types of things here, religion is more subjective) will just get you laughed at here.

Don't start trouble between the Europeans and Americans on this forum, everyone comes out looking like an ass and some punishments get handed out.

Be a lurker for a week before you post, know what threads are dead horses, know what people here like and dislike, get a feeling for everything, and then post here.

Don't listen to any warnings discouraging you from starting or discussing controversial topics. (or: "don't be a spineless wuss")

Use proper and intelligent spelling and grammar. It helps us come out of the light. Avoid the words "best", "game", and "ever" in any kind of conjunction--that makes us irritable and asshole-happy.

If you're going into a controversial topic, be polite, argue intelligently and know when to stop (either when you've lost or when it's getting hot).

Don't fuck with Max or Neonbob
More like "Beware Max, he has the skillz to hunt you down. Respect Neonbob and anyone else with the Wordsmith Extraordinaire title, especially if they have the Neo badge."

Warning? Either the one above, or else "Don't start a controversial topic unless you are willing to argue with the Internet for hours on end and lose sleep."

I'm so glad I read the faq's as I almost started this topic.

?As a god fearing member of the KKK, I?m very concerned about my sister, she?s about to marry a lesbian, black feminist, can anyone please help me explain to her that we?re expecting a baby and aborting it to run off isn?t what Hitler would expect from us.?

Starting that thread would have been almost unforgivable.

don't talk about rape or feminism
Awww... why not?

OT: never talk about any of the following on this list:

Halo
Religion
9/11 Conspiracy Theories
Femenism
PS3
Xbox 360
Wii
Americans

All of the above will get you into a flamewar.

Oh and don't start an anime thread... we have too many anime fans already and I hate them all, especially YOU!

Do not roleplay on the off topic, news or gaming forum unless it is the point of the thread. Roleplaying adds nothing to the discussion, derails discussions and is a blatant post count +1, post. I'm looking at everyone that has or is planning to mention Max or Neonbob for a pointless, "oh noez he iz scawy" post.

Also don't make, "what's your favourite blank" threads. Nobody actually discusses anything and just rambles about themselves for a quick post +1 then leaves. Or they might stay for some more, "you have good/bad taste" posts which do not constitute a discussion.

Never ignore your own opinions just because someone has over 10k posts. Or any number of posts.
