Two moments I'm thinking of right now are from Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

The part in the caves where the Antlion Guardian will knock you into the abyss if you so much as linger two seconds out of the larva holes.

The ending.
Damn.

Well, time for an oddball

I was in the second year of a career in NCAA 2006 (football), and made the rose boll with the CAL Golden Bears. At the half we were down 24-0, we managed to come back 24-21. With just over a minute left the other team (Texas A&M) was forced to punt. I took it back 60 yards to house! The second I got the touchdown I like jumped five feet in the air.

If story intensity counts, I recall my jaw dropping when I got to the Tower of Salvation in Tales of Symphonia.

Also, for effect on me, the end of Half Life 2: Episode 2. If Episode 3 was just beating Combine Advisors with crowbars, it would be the greatest FPS ever.

The whole Mass Effect Suicide mission, my heart didn't stop blasting out of my chest at any point.
Indeed... I nearly shed tears of adrenalin during that final cutscene. So goddamn epic!

Also:

All Ghillied Up from COD4 and the entire final hour of Gears Of War 2.

In the first STALKER..

When you try to reach the reactor and the Monolith and Army are fighting all around you. I was just running and thinking "ohshitohshitohshit" but made it on the first try.

Also, when the Alarm goes of in the party level of Thief 2.

I'm not sure people in this thread know what intense means. It's not a part you thought was cool, it's that feeling of panic and adrenaline rush like that part where the train comes right at you in Mirrors Edge, and you have to sprint to the exit, or in a racing game where you're neck and neck with someone on the last stretch. That's intense.

The Mass Effect 2 suicide mission, especially the first part where you've got to open the doors for your team mate. Man that was awesome, it was just fire, cover, fire, cover, smash button, fire, cover. By the end of it, I was slapping the shift key every time.

The Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows also comes to mind. That had me on the edge of my seat jumping at every single noise.

Finally, the last mission in Tom Clancy's Hawx. That was crazy, I laid in with the radar guided missiles at first but then they just got too thick and I was twisting, dodging and loosing all aspect missiles as fast as I could pull the trigger.

The most epic video game sequence for me wasn't on a console. It was on a flash rpg(GASP!! blasphemy...). What happened was I was playing some blatant rip off of the already ripped off Star Trek Universe and about 200 tiny ships were flying straight at me. I didn't care much, I had the best ship and the best weapons. It turns out they were dragging a painfully slow almost exact replica of a Deathstar from Star Wars. Panicking because of the sheer size, I took off in a hurry and accidentally wasted my entire supply of antimatter jumping around the universe for no reason. Meaning I had to pilot a painfully slow ship against a painfully slow enemy in a painfully slow chase scene that threatened to destroy 4 months of work, as there was no quick reload and death means you lose everything...
That... actually sounds quite fun. Do you remember what it was called, or what site it was on?

My favourite recent "intense sequence" was actually in Transformers: War For Cybertron. As a shooter it's pretty bland but it passes the time okay and the transforming mechanic is fun for switching between traditional shooter and driving/ramming into an enemy's knees/taking some dude's head off with a tank shell when you can't be bothered picking away at them with your handgun.

Anyway, aside from the occasional boss battle the game's just marching/driving/flying from setpiece to setpiece chewing through the endless armies of whoever. Then about halfway through the Autobot campaign you
have to fly up the barrel of a giant orbital cannon that Megatron is using to bombard Autobot encampments. At the end of this section you blast its transformation cogs, forcing the entire city-sized weapon to convert back to its natural form- a mile-tall black and gold Godzilla-style monster with a jetpack. You fly out his mouth at the last second and then have to charge through the atmosphere after him as he dives towards the Autobot capital, blasting away at his jetpack as he swats at you with Itano-esque waves of missiles and bursts of plasma breath.
It's back to business as usual afterwards but for those few minutes the whole thing just goes nuts and it's tremendous fun.

ME2 opening. Love it.
That part was awesome, though it did confuse the hell out of me when they killed him in the first 5 minutes(never read or saw anything to do with the game so it would all be new and the hype wouldn't mess with me).

Also the SC2 mission were you are fighting off zombies, that was rather sweet.

The helicopterpart in Modern Warfare 2, the one were you fly over Washington D.C. and just spray exploding bullets with a minigun. Intensity with 500 cc's of heroin.

Dangit, I was going to mention something from Dead Space. So I will. There's a scene near the end when you're being chased by that big invincible guy who regenerates limbs once you cut them off and you have to move around those beds with your kinesis module... and he's right behind you the entire times and the beds move really slowly. And then you run for your life towards this door only to find that it's locked and you have to defend yourself as aliens are constantly pouring into the room and then when it opens running for your life into the elevator... just did that part yesterday and my heart was pounding.
