They have done it for three generations now, don't expect things to change in that regard. What if they are once again, the weakest console by a huge margin? Won't we see the same third party support as the Wii had?

I am already buying one, will be waiting in line at Best Buy this fall. But it wouldn't hurt for them to actually deliver a Zelda game like they showed at E3.

Don't load the wii U with casual shovel-ware, MAKE THIS ZELDA GAME REAL!!!! Do it so I can give you all my money!

I have read that the Wii is weaker than the 360/PS3. If so it will be another gen like this one where Nintendo is lagging behind.
Nope. The Wii U is a fair bit more powerful than eitherthe 360, or the PS3. It has more RAM, the CPU and GPU are based off higher generation technology, and it will display games in true 1080, unlike the 720/upscaled 720 that the PS3 and 360 offer. Epic and Crytek have confirmed that their respective Unreal 3 and Cryengine 3 engines run on the Wii U, meaning there are going to be some damn pretty games on the system.

For myself, I'm really looking forward to it. It's hard to call the touchscreen controller a gimmick when the single most popular console of all time, the DS, uses a touchscreen, and several generations of iPhones and iPads have shown just what touchscreens can bring to gaming. If it means that gamers can use the touchscreen to play FPS games with the accuracy of the DS shooters, then fuck it, I'm in! Metroid on the DS was a revelation in how accurate a touchscreen and stylus can allow you to be in gunning down mooks.

Ok, well what proof do you have that the WiiU will be more powerful than the PS3/360? Do you know the specs? Have you worked with the hardware?

Now, here are the words of some unnamed developers:

According to some developers, Nintendo?s first HD console can?t output graphics that are even on par with Microsoft and Sony?s current machines. Developers speaking with GamesIndustry International on Monday had more than a few disparaging comments in store for Nintendo?s upcoming tablet-controlled console. ?It?s not up to same level as the PS3 or the 360. The graphics are just not as powerful,? said one source.
Unnamed developers doesn't inspire confidence I agree but it is more than what you have isn't it. Also, Nintendo would almost seem to confirm it.

A representative of Nintendo of America neither confirmed nor denied the report for Digital Trends. ?We do not focus on technology specs. We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers.?
http://news.yahoo.com/developers-claim-wii-u-weaker-ps3-360-nintendo-210201325.html

So there you have it. If you find out later this year that the WiiU really is this weak, you won't be surprised now.

However, let's say that this source is full of shit. If the WiiU is only a BIT MORE POWERFUL than the PS3/360, doesn't that make it exactly like the Wii was this gen, being only a bit more powerful the original XBOX?

I think, no matter which of us right, the WiiU is going to be a repeat of the Wii. This time though, it won't sell like the Wii. Too many people burned on the Wii for lightning to strike twice.

Nothing to be honest, I bought the Wii just for the ability to play Metroid Prime 3 and the other Metroid titles on gamecube. Total I have 8 wii games (sold 2), 2 of them came with the wii and a controller, another was a gift. Total number of gamecube games? 5 if they were worth anything I'd have 3.

I've just never gotten into much that is nintendo. After the garbage that was Other: M and the Wii, I'm not really interested in wasting money on a dumb console design again. The thing never sees use either, it was such a freakin' waste.

In that case, I won't buy a Wii U. I haven't supported Nintendo since the SNES days, and can't say it wasn't the most sensible choice.

OK, so you've got an unnamed source? How about this.

Crytek: The Wii U specs are 'very good'. They've got Cryengine 3 running on the system.

Epic: The Unreal 3 Engine running on the Wii U will deliver better looking games than even the HD Zelda tech demo shown last year. That's the same Unreal 3 engine that was used to demo that rather tasty looking Samaritan tech demo not so long ago.

There's this tech demo, giving an example of the amount of graphical detail the Wii U is able to operate with. Then there's the HD Zelda demo, which just looks absolutely stunning.

And the rumoured specs are not difficult to find online. So far, the Wii U is being pegged at having an IBM developed CPU based off their Power7 technology, and an AMD RadeonHD GPU equivalent to one of the 4700 series. The latest development is that it may also have 1GB of RAM, twice what the 360 and PS3 have to offer. All these specs place it quite a bit in front of the 360 and PS3.

The Wii U may not be quite as advanced as the Xbox 720 and PS4 when they finally appear? So what? When has the console war ever been won by the most powerful console? The Wii outsold the 360 and PS3, despite being the weakest system. The PS2 outsold the Xbox and Gamecube combined, despite being drastically weaker than either. The PS1 stamped all over the N64 in terms of sales, despite having about half of the pure polygon-pushing power.

If trends show anything, it seems to be that time and again, it is the weakest system that emerges triumphant. So even if the Wii U ends up less powerful than either of the next next-gen offerings from Sony and Microsoft, how is that a bad thing for Nintendo? The last three generations of consoles would suggest that being the most powerful console guarantees only that you will lose the console race? The original Xbox was whole lightyears ahead of the PS2 in terms of tech, but that didn't help it sell any better.
Well, we will see how it looks later this year when we KNOW what the specs are. I predict it will make an excellent machine to port 360/PS3 games but not much more than that.

You are right though that the weakest console usually sells better and the Wii was no exception but take a stroll around gaming forums and see how many people feel burned by their purchase of the Wii. I think there is a threshold a console must cross atleast, even being the weakest console means you have to be comparable to the competition. The Wii wasn't comparable, it sold on it's innovation that many gamers came to hate. I don't think it will sell on innovation this time.

Not too pricey and a few games I can enjoy.
I mean I bought a wii at launch and I have now under 20 games.
I'd like a new StarFox, Harvest Moon, haven't played Pikmin2 but apparently there's gonna be a 3 and I enjoyed 1. Zelda is a given and a new Metroid Prime would be lovely.
Then I'll just check now and then what games it has and if something seems interesting I'll probably get it.

Nothing. I'm not gone to buy a Wii U, I already have a PS3, so most of the games for this system will either be gimmicy, will already/will be on the PS3/360, or will be Zelda, Mario, etc.

Maybe when its had a price drop a few years from now and they have an HD Zelda(with human Link, not Toon Link)

That's what I thought about the N64, Gamecube and Wii. Turns out the PS1, PS2 and PS3/360 all had a better library.
Well I also owned a PS1, PS2, PS3, and a 360. Only games I liked on the PS1 were the Digimon games and the Final Fantasy games(and Chrono Trigger cause I missed out on getting the SNES). The PS2 came closer but still didn't end up with as many games I liked as the Gamecube, and many games that were on both systems like Resident Evil 4 or Viewtiful Joe I found were better on the Gamecube anyway. My PS3 gets about half as much use as my Wii because there aren't as many games on the PS3 I like as on the Wii, and as of right now my PS3 is mainly getting use because the Wii has no good fighting games outside of Smash Bros. Finally, my 360 got sold because the hardware is piss and it has what I consider one of the worst libraries of games in gaming history, only really being beaten out by the fucking N-Gage.

You can say they have a "better" library, but the problem is that better is entirely subjective. In my eyes, Nintendo has a better library in this gen because Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, etc. haven't diminished in value with each new game while the other systems try too hard to be "mature" and just end up coming off as childish, while have libraries heavily flooded with shooters.

They've already done it.
They said it will have the inevitable Smash Bros. title.
This, as well as either the next Metroid or a retconned Director's Cut of Other M with updated controls and story fixes. A Zelda is inevitable, but I never finished Skyward Sword due to getting 5 other games around the same time, so I don't even know if it's good or not. Eternal Darkness 2 would be nice, but it's not like they ever promised it. Other than that, they need to stick to what worked on the Gamecube as opposed to the Wii: remembering that kindergarteners and soccer moms are only their biggest demographic because they let it happen.

I have almost no interest in it whatsoever. The only way I'd even consider buying it was if it had a launch lineup of absolutely must play exclusives and it was cheap (like less than £200).

Opinions will vary but I am pretty sure that most people would consider the PS1, PS2, PS3 and 360 to have a superior game library. No one beats Nintendo's first party titles but there is just so many good third party games on non Nintendo systems that even Nintendo's first party can't keep up.

I also have to say that Nintendo has really hurt their first party titles this gen with gimmicky controls. I can honestly say that the two DS Zelda games and Skyward Sword were ruined by the controls and other first party titles had motion and touch controls forced in where they didn't need to be too.

Make the controls perfect.

Nintendo makes fantastic games that I can totally get behind. The Wii has those games. Most of them suffer simply because motion controls (even with motion plus) aren't accurate enough.
