I have read that the Wii is weaker than the 360/PS3. If so it will be another gen like this one where Nintendo is lagging behind.
Nope. The Wii U is a fair bit more powerful than eitherthe 360,
or the PS3. It has more RAM, the CPU and GPU are based off higher generation technology, and it will display games in true 1080, unlike the 720/upscaled 720 that the PS3 and 360 offer. Epic and Crytek have confirmed that their respective Unreal 3 and Cryengine 3 engines run on the Wii U, meaning there are going to be some
damn pretty games on the system.
For myself, I'm really looking forward to it. It's hard to call the touchscreen controller a gimmick when the single most popular console of all time, the DS, uses a touchscreen, and several generations of iPhones and iPads have shown just what touchscreens can bring to gaming. If it means that gamers can use the touchscreen to play FPS games with the accuracy of the DS shooters, then fuck it, I'm in! Metroid on the DS was a revelation in how accurate a touchscreen and stylus can allow you to be in gunning down mooks.
Ok, well what proof do you have that the WiiU will be more powerful than the PS3/360? Do you know the specs? Have you worked with the hardware?
Now, here are the words of some unnamed developers:
According to some developers, Nintendo?s first HD console can?t output graphics that are even on par with Microsoft and Sony?s current machines. Developers speaking with GamesIndustry International on Monday had more than a few disparaging comments in store for Nintendo?s upcoming tablet-controlled console. ?It?s not up to same level as the PS3 or the 360. The graphics are just not as powerful,? said one source.
Unnamed developers doesn't inspire confidence I agree but it is more than what you have isn't it. Also, Nintendo would almost seem to confirm it.
A representative of Nintendo of America neither confirmed nor denied the report for Digital Trends. ?We do not focus on technology specs. We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers.?

So there you have it. If you find out later this year that the WiiU really is this weak, you won't be surprised now.
However, let's say that this source is full of shit. If the WiiU is only a BIT MORE POWERFUL than the PS3/360, doesn't that make it exactly like the Wii was this gen, being only a bit more powerful the original XBOX?
I think, no matter which of us right, the WiiU is going to be a repeat of the Wii. This time though, it won't sell like the Wii. Too many people burned on the Wii for lightning to strike twice.
OK, so you've got an unnamed source? How about this.
Crytek:
The Wii U specs are 'very good'. They've got Cryengine 3 running on the system.
Epic:
The Unreal 3 Engine running on the Wii U will deliver better looking games than even the HD Zelda tech demo shown last year. That's the same Unreal 3 engine that was used to demo that rather tasty looking Samaritan tech demo not so long ago.
There's
this tech demo, giving an example of the amount of graphical detail the Wii U is able to operate with. Then there's the
HD Zelda demo, which just looks absolutely stunning.
And the rumoured specs are not difficult to find online. So far, the Wii U is being pegged at having an IBM developed CPU based off their Power7 technology, and an AMD RadeonHD GPU equivalent to one of the 4700 series. The latest development is that it may also have 1GB of RAM, twice what the 360 and PS3 have to offer. All these specs place it quite a bit in front of the 360 and PS3.
The Wii U may not be quite as advanced as the Xbox 720 and PS4 when they finally appear? So what? When has the console war ever been won by the most powerful console? The Wii outsold the 360 and PS3, despite being the weakest system. The PS2 outsold the Xbox and Gamecube
combined, despite being drastically weaker than either. The PS1 stamped all over the N64 in terms of sales, despite having about
half of the pure polygon-pushing power.
If trends show anything, it seems to be that time and again, it is the
weakest system that emerges triumphant. So even if the Wii U ends up less powerful than either of the next next-gen offerings from Sony and Microsoft, how is that a bad thing for Nintendo? The last three generations of consoles would suggest that being the most powerful console guarantees only that you will lose the console race? The original Xbox was whole lightyears ahead of the PS2 in terms of tech, but that didn't help it sell any better.
