What's the best and worst console controller?

Best - Gamecube. Comfy, simply, great.

Worst - NES. Its a rectangle. Nuff said.

If im being fair though, id admit that seeing as its basically one of the first ever controllers, it should get a free pass. With that in mind, my other worst would be the Wii classic controller. The pro made it better, but the original is just so uncomfortable with its SNES-era design.

My favorite controller has got to be, hands down, the Xbox 360 controller. I loved it from the moment I first laid my hands on my friend's launch 360 all those years ago. Its the perfect size, everything feels right where it belongs, nothing is hard to reach, the triggers feel like triggers, it just feels right.
The only downside it has is that sucky D-Pad.

As for a least favorite... well, I never really thought about it before so I'm not sure I even have one.
I don't like the Dualshock 3's triggers. No matter how long I play with it, I can't get used to them. I miss the triggers from the Dualshock 2.

Actually, I think I hate the Gamecube controller the most.
Not only did it have to follow the N64 controller (which I still love), but it only had one analog stick, the C-stick was annoying to use, I could never remember the difference between the X and Y buttons, and I kept forgetting where the fuck the Z button was.

Personally I prefer the 360 controller it is a duelshock clone but I have bigish hands so it sits better.

Worst would be the wii controller, so much of a pain.

I don't get all the hatred about the N64 controller though, (although this could be nostalgia speaking) I quite liked it.

I love and allways will love the PS controller, I hope sony never change it much with future consoles.

Also well done Escapist for the lack of "Best: PS3, Worst: 360" and vise verca.

Best: gamecube. I grew up with game-cube so every controller i hold is compared to how it feels against the gamecube controller. So essentially the gamecube controller became a sort of bench mark for me.

Worst: probably the nintendo 64 controller. Awkwardness in physical form.

Best: Dualshock 3/Xbox 360 controller/Snes controller
Worst: Anything by Madcatz that isn't a tournament edition fightstick

Best is the 360 or gamecube. They're both really good, but will give the edge to GC cuz of 360 weight.
The worst is impossible for me to tell, I haven't played all of the obscure ones. But special mention to the PSP, my hands hurt after using that damn thing! For this generation the wii without the add on is pretty bad, but it was brand new stuff, so I'll give them that. I do really dislike the PS3 controller, not because it's bad, but because it has a fatal design flaw. How could you possibly make the shoulder buttons convex and not concave?? It's moronic!

Best: Either the PS3 controller of the Gamecube controller. They both fit perfectly in my hands
Worst: 360 controller loses points because it's bulky and awkward, but they probably weren't thinking of women with small hands when they designed it. THE worst is the N64. Despite being used to it now, games like Pokemon Stadium, which got you to switch the way you were holding it for every different mini-game, made you realise just how badly the damn thing was designed. And I particularily loathed the modified version that was even shorter and stubbier - I could barely hold onto those.

For me the best is the 360 controller. From the moment I first picked one up it's felt perfect for my hands. Everything is where I want it to be.

The worst for me is a tie between all of the PlayStation controllers... I'm not fan-boying here though. I have a PS2 and had a PS1 and the controllers never felt right to me. I have to put them down after a while to give my hands a break.

Of course, Razer Mamba + Logitech G19 beat everything =P

Best:- Xbox 360
Worst:- Origional Xbox "dinnerplate" controller

No idea what that were thinking with that design
I actually liked the original Xbox controller, found it very comfortable. But it's not my favourite.

My favourite would be the Dual Shock, almost unchanged since the PSX, and while it might have a simple shape, I like its symmetry and I find it very easy to use, comfortable and not too small either.

Worst controller would be the Gamecube, I always found it uncomfortable, the A, B, X, Y button layout was dreadful (also, why make B, the second most used button smaller and harder to press than X and Y?), Z was also placed very stupidly (why not just have double shoulder buttons?) the D-pad was completely unusable, which in particular hampered the usefulness of the Game Boy Player and also affected games like Sonic Mega Collection and Resident Evil, just crap, crap, crap.

The best i think is the 360 controller, it feels so natural in my hands and it has some weight to it which i like in a controller.

2nd place goes to the Dual Shock 2. Loved that controller back ni the day, although not as ergonomic as the 360 controller, it is still good. however i absolutely hate the Dual Shock 3. it is too lite and feels cheap compared to the dualshock 2. It is also to small, it is uncomfortable to hold, also I hate the DS3's left and right triggers(L2, R2), the DS2 design was much better.

cliffs, 360 controller = best ever, Dual Shock 2 second best, Dual Shock 3, worst POS i've ever held in my hands.

Best: PS2 and Gamce Cube - Light, comfortable, very ergonomic

Worst: PS3 - The triggers make me want to throw it at the wall

Best - PS1,2, and 3 controllers. 360 controllers are also very comfortable to use too. Can't really decide between the two, I am at a point when I find both incredibly easy to use. GC controllers were also quite nice but I didn't like the C stick.

Worst - Nintendo Wii's classic controllers, couldn't even play Monster Hunter right. The Wii's actual controller isn't very great itself being motion control to be honest, and of course the N64 controller was pretty weird.

BEST : PS3....Lightweight and all the buttons are within easy reach.

WORST : Xbox....It's kinda one of the reasons that I don't like my Xbox. The controller is way to big and clunky, plus trying to press the buttons feels unnatural since they're so far apart.

Best, Gamecube and Xbox 360 controllers.

Worst most definitely goes to any Playstation controller, or anything the rips it off. Why have the main analogue stick in such a stupid position?

the NES controller is by far the worst, which leaves me in a terrible position. all of those great games and an itty bitty controller. i still put in hours on my NES though, so i really shouldn't be complaining.

Best: Xbox 360. Perfect size to fit in my hand, ergonomic design and I've always preferred the asymmetric analogue sticks (despite being a PS2 man).

Worst: Wii. I hate it. I hate the idea of swinging it around etc etc. But when holding it on it's side and trying to use it like a traditional controller it had completely alien button locations and I just hated using it.

Best- original xbox controller-S. You know, the smaller replacement to the dinnerplate one. Though if it weren't for the joystick, I'd put the N64 as the best, and to hell with the haters.

Worst- original xbox launch controller or just about every playstation controller ever. Buttons don't depress enough and the handles are too short, giving you cramps after extended sessions.

I prefer PS3 because they are small and easy to hold. I can't play XBox though. The controllers are too large and uncomfortable for me. And I just hate Wii's shitty motion controls.
