If you find one of those rare Dual Shock 2s with good diagonals on the d-pad, it's that.

I want to say "Razer Onza" but I've yet to try/buy one.

EDIT - Though I hate to hype anything Nintendo these days, the Classic Controller Plus is AMAZING. It's my ideal Cave Story controller.

It depends on what you are doing. The 360 controller is the best controller for shooting games and such, but it has a terrible d-pad and is pretty bad for fighting games.

The PS3 controller is a bit more awkward with it's shoulder buttons and the stick placement is awkward for something like Call of Duty, but it has an awesome d-pad making it amazing for fighting games.

I'd choose the 360 over the PS3 for everything but fighting games though.

The best for me is the Genesis controller. The XBox controller was based off it for damn good reasons! The worst for me was the Super Nintendo and the Dreamcast controller (that thing was bulky as all hell!!)

the best would probably be the 360.

The worst was definitely the n64. Not because it was a weird shape, it was actually fairly comfortable, but it had the worst analog stick ever. Not only could you easily blister your thumb on the top of it, but the calibration was in constant need of attention and the analog would just plain break after a while trying to play Mario Kart. That's the only thing I remember Nintendo making that was just engineered to be a piece of junk.

oddly enough I love te n64 remote I find i am more accurate with the c buttons than a second stick and my hands are so large its fits well I can just hold the joy stick and the extra handle in one hand n the other in my right not to mention the joy stick was nice and stiff I loved it gave great resistance I really wish new remotes had more resistance im always overshooting everything because of it

Best controller for me is the Dual Shock family. The 360 controller could have been up there, but the LB and RB buttons always cause me problems, and the D-pad is horrible.

The worst controller is the Wiimote, I think it is the sole reason I hardly ever play my Wii. I just hate holding a remote in my hand while playing games, and holding it sideways is just ridiculous.

2 I can point out:

1. The Atari Jaguar had a pretty bulky controller with those multiple numerical values that i don't understand

2. The Atari 5200 Controller....well it never functioned, what more needs to be said about that :p
About time someone mentioned the horrors of the Jaguar, someone linked a picture of the Intellivision controller, and the Jaguar is like they looked at that one and then worked out how to make it worse.

"We've managed to make it more hideous and bulky than anything on the market, I still think we need to double the size and weight however to make it utterly useless."

"How about we weld half a cashpoint machine to the bottom of it?" "Genius!"

I think I'm gonna have to say Playstation controllers are the worst. I can never get comfortable with those controllers and can't seem to get my fingers in the right places.

Xbox 360's controller is alright but the best has to be GameCube's controller. It's just perfect and fits in my hands just right it's light and awesome.

Best: dualshock 3. It's really the psx/2 controller, improved.
Worst: n64. Like... wtf? Don't get me wrong, I like the n64, but the controller... *edit* the wiimote is also fail. It's uncomfortable, the buttons are placed awkwardly, and holding it sideways... just... no.

For me the best is the Dual Shock 3.

I've always liked the look of PlayStation Controllers ever since the start, and every subsequent iteration has improved on it.

I especially like the nice analogue triggers on the DS3.

Worst would probably be the Jaguar, that thing was weird.

I see a lot of people don't like the N64 controller, but I got to like it, other than the bizarre way you normally had to hold it, with 2 out of 3 "handles" :)

I think the 360 has the best controller, seems more ergonomically designed than the ps3 controller. Worst controller... the nintento Wii, just cant get used to it even after playing for hours with it.

I think the gamecube controller, ugly as it is, is the best controller I've ever held in my hands. Beginners never have to look down because every button feels different and is placed intuitively on the controller.

In contrast, I think the dual shock is the worst controller, at least since 3D gaming (that's polygons, not the 3D glasses revival going on) came along. Four shoulder buttons that feel exactly alike and are clumsily placed? Four buttons for your right thumb that all feel the exact same, and are named triangle square circle and "x"? Seriously? That's supposed to be intuitive? Microsoft is pretty bad too, as they tend to splash buttons all over the right half of the controller, but the dual shock is the least ergonomic and in my opinion the least intuitive controller of the "modern" era, and it's not really changed at all, either.

Move wins the title of ugliest, however. It looks like it was built by a LARP'er in a used electronics store, and the stupid sphere shows up on the screen when you're using it to play a shooter.

Can't really decide on best, but the worst by far was the Virtual Boy Controller. Why oh why would there be a battery pack on a controller that can easy be moved out of place? Not that anyone would want to play a virtual boy, but still. Was it so hard to make the damn thing stick in place Nintendo or whoever Nintendo may have gotten to design/create it?

Best would have to be the 360, I like the triggers better than the PS3's flaps.
Worst would have to be the N64 controller, it would have been perfect if I had three hands.

Best: Xbox 360 controller.
Worst: Toss between the original Xbox controller and the N64 controller. And has anyone tried using the original NES controller lately? How did we survive that?

Best: Xbox 360 controller or Dualshock 2 (what the PS2 used). The 360 fits my hands perfectly and the buttons are all comfortably placed and responsive. The only problem is the D-pad, which I've grown used to due to Mortal Kombat 9, but it can still be a bit fidgety at times. That's why I love the PS2 controllers. The D-pad is excellent in every way, and it's still pretty comfortable.
Worst: Wiimote. Never have I had a controller so unresponsive and annoying. "Oh, you wanted to go through that door and end the section you've been stuck on for 10 minutes?" says the Wiimote. "I thought you said 'Stare up at the ceiling and let the monsters kill me' My bad." John Carmack agrees (it was in some interview on why none of Id's games are going on Wii, or at leat that was a question in the interview), so I know I'm not the only one.
