Well... to be honest the "Sportplatz" next to my house was really just a soccerfield. Or rather, two soccer fields, one for training and one for the actual games. I guess most Footballfields are indeed called "Fußballplatz" and a "Sportplatz" would be more of a place where you can do multiple sports.
