It's the quiet one you have to watch for. You make fun of them long enough and then they suddenly snap. Like Canada, France or Belgium.

I dont think there will be another world-scale conflict. Sure, there will always be little country vs. country squabbles, but i think too many very powerful people have to much invested in global stability. Then again big oil would love nothing more than a nice big war to ramp up demand.

The next war will be Russia attempting to reclaim another one of their former surrogates. The next World War will be between The U.S, Japan and Turkey.
Japan?. They have a Self Defense Force but last I checked they do not have a standard fighting battalion a.k.a an army. So what will they fight with?. and most importantly Why?. What would cause Japan to go to war or why would someone declare war on Japan. They aren't doing anything hostile now are they?
Japan doesn't have enough people or raw materials in their own country and they dislike immigrants, eventually they will have to adopt expansionist policies, they actually have enough money to assemble a fighting force from scratch and they were in a world war before. They also have a long history of military rivalry with China and China is on the rise.
Fair point. If anything, the more likely sparks for wars in the future will be water and oil. Food the rich countries can get relatively easily, but water is a very finite resource, that will certainly kick off if global warming does dry places out.
I disagree with that point about water, people are working on very advanced purification systems that could potentially turn undrinkable sea water into drinkable water. Which means when these advancements happen then there will be no reason for anybody to fight over water.

While the technology does exist many third world nations cannot afford a desalination plant let alone a grey water recycling center to supply an entire nation. My point was that these nations would start sqaubling amongst themselves for fresh water. Developed nations would have a problem with this too. Since most power plants (including nuclear) need steam power to churn the turbines it would lead to a worldwide power crisis and come full circle. Without water you can't run a power station and without power you can run a water station.

The title is pretty self explanatory I guess, where will the next war start?. Will it errupt somewhere in the middle east or in Russia, or somewhere entirely new?. There are many hot spots right now with Israel and Palestine in conflict and North Korea doing it's weapon testing but with so many unstable regions I thought you might have some opinions.
well if you asked ne 1 in 2006 they would have said Iran, instead it happened in Georgia. so i dont think we can really say at all

If it's like a World War, there isn't going to be another one. If it's just like a small conflict, I reckon some shitholes in Africa will have a go at each other next.
This.

If it's not in Switzlerland, they'll start it. Like in another topic, they could hijack the funds of the international safes in Zurich for war bonds. Someone had to have pissed them off at some point

Don't be silly Andorra is far more likely to be a hot spot. They have the second highest human life expectancy in the world, surely, someone would go after it to find the secret for longevity.

It would be ironic if trouble brew up in America itself; like if Texas seceded and declared war on the rest of the US states,

I agree with the fact that there might not be a WWIII given the current political climate but there will undoubtedly be disputes all over the place. Perhaps even in Antarctica when people start wanting to drill for oil there.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

I was getting really depressed that no one mentioned India and Pakistan. If the next "war" erupts where someone invades someone, causing all sorts of griefing, it will be between those two.

World War? Not likely, since a lot of countries are interlaced in a complicated matter that meant taking sides would likely hurt their economy or their political influence.

Yeah, I think someone mentioned that wars are started over resources -- Antarctica and the Arctic circle have a lot of funny, disputable, and non-enforcable boundaries which I'm sure will lead to territorial disputes. This won't necessarily lead to world war and nukes though, probably two navies duking it out.

im gona take a lucky guess and vote anywhere heres the
countries and reasons :
Venezuela : just installed a legitamite dictator who hates the U.S
Cuba : when their current leader dies hell 'll break loose
Brazil: they grow stronger and stronger and richer and as it has happened before those who are on the rise are targets for the quikest plummet
U.S.A : do you think people will let them walk for their wars against the muslims (i will never say terorists you cant make me) and causing this crisis.... and their is North korea with their grudge
India And Pakistan : their relations are getting worse and worse
The British isles : Unrest in both ireland and scotland and many arguments on the internet and on the streets show that the hatred is growing against england
Russia: communism seems to be closing in again and they won't give up their regions who want to cut loose so desparately
Israel: Ironically have turned into the new nazi's and are provoking alot of countries surrounding them
Just on the part of communism here. why does every1 think communism will make russia go to war against other people at once thats just fucking retarded. Communism is not necessarily evil it just didnt work the way it intended with the sovjet union.

I say either the middle east (because they're not having a good time), Russia (They're turning into MASSIVE a-holes, I think they're turning communist again), or china (Because they behave like a-holes from time to time as well).
Again here. The assumption that Russia will attack every1 if communism comes there its kinda retarded

I try and stay out of thread such as this one, but this post raised an eyebrow.

To begin with, India and Pakistan have been engaged in a hot and cold war (both at the same time believe it or not) since 1947. When they are not *officially* at war, you will see Pakistan sending radicalized Islamic militants into Kashmir in order to "liberate" the region (that is when they aren't throwing acid in girls faces), all the while denying that they do in fact train and support said militants. In response India secretly sends in special forces into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK. A.K.A "Azad" (Free) Kashmir) to destroy these training camps which Pakistan says doesn't exist.

Despite a LOT of provocation (See Mumbai attacks, with Pakistan actually admitting the fact that these terrorists were in fact trained in Pakistan), neither side is in any real position to start a war. Pakistan because they know that they are essentially outnumbered and outgunned, and that such a war will destabilize Pakistan and allow the NWFP a further free hand (See: Taliban in Swat) and India because they have a lot more to loose economically and strategically.

You will see a lot of "incidents" I suspect in the near future, but unless a radical change in government on either side i.e extremists, an actual war is out of the question, especially with the large bill attached to it.

And I thought the "where" was gonna be the game...

But uh, I do think it will involve China and be in East Asia.
