Ew. This couldn't be in worse taste.

Did you guys sit down and decide stereotypes were funny or something? Yes, let's all make fun of people we disagree with and talk about how right we are and how dumb they are. That's exactly what we should. Nothing works better than mocking people. But it's okay, because making fun of THEM is fine. Just not when they do it to us.

The fedora thing is so fucking played out. Seriously. It's not even desperate comedy at this point. It's just sad. Like turning up ten years too late to kick a dead horse and just eating the dirt it died on. "lol MRA atheist is a brony and has never had a girlfriend, derp." It's done. Let it go. Christ.

I don't even know what you were actually trying to accomplish. Is it just a circle jerk? There's not even any preach in the preaching to the choir. Racism is bad (but making fun of people for things other than race is not)? Is that it? The death of a young man is bad? An argument about some character I've never seen in my life? What even was the message? This is lazy. This is masturbation.

Nerds making fun of people and stereotyping groups. I'd normally say it's ironic, but since when did anyone expect anything more. So long as it's not race, sexuality or gen- no scratch that. So long as it's not race or sexuality, it's cool to just shit all over people, huh? Tell me how they are just jokes and how they are harmless, about how I need to just get over it and toughen up. That argument sounds familiar.
Ha!

I was going to use the terms "circle jerk" and "masturbation" in my own post, but then thought better of it.

It's brightly coloured, hyperbole ridden mental wank-aid, but who are we to spoil the party? Get your jollies where you can, I say.

This... this is amazing.
It's a shame there's a couple of people who can't take a joke but at least it's only a couple.

It's embodying those kind of users that don't last very long on here in comic form. Brilliant!

[sub]Needs moar feminist hating.[/sub]
:D
Don't worry!
It doesn't have any, and yet some people were complaining about it anyway.

Zimmerman Mode, ha.

But yeah, how are people of a different ethnicity unrelatable? That makes no sense.
Also, THIS is the comic's golden center. Saying a different ethnicity can't be relatable is wrong in multiple ways. Including factual.

Also it took three pages for a shit storm to start brewing, that is pretty impressive.
Of course, another way to look at it is that it took about two hours.

Which kinda makes it seem less impressive.
Oh, if anything it's more impressive. That's 1:59:30 long than I thought it'd take. Think of it as a ratio, and that's amazing!
You're right. I was thinking about how long it usually takes threads to reach three pages, but with the context of the content in this comic, it is a bit surprising that it's taken as long as it has.

Let's just wait and see if this gets linked to Reddit, 4chan, or any of those other hotbeds, though...

Oh well. One less stop on my webcomic tour.

I wish they'd go back to making jokes about games instead of whatever commentary crap this is supposed to be.

I'm Canadian, so no. But on plenty of the survey forms here, there is an option that asks you if you identify as First Nations. I always check yes, non-status, and Metis, because that is my heritage. Also, you can visibly tell that Zimmerman is part hispanic.
By that logic, I'm part hispanic. Spoiler: I'm not.

"Hispanic," however, still is often identified as "white."

I usually don't pay attention to that, so you may be right. Also, 4chan? Does that mean everyone's getting rape threats against them?

In fairness, I rarely notice them so I don't know how long they last. They just seem to always be around.

AHAHAHA nice one.

Also what's with "not being able to identify as him".
I've never thought of a preset character as "me". The closest I ever came to that is a completely blank WRPG character e.g. Fallout/Skyrim etc., and even then I played all kinds of races and genders.
Is that a case of "middle-age business man trying to find out what kids like these days", again?

I just like to laugh at people :D
But isn't laughing at somebody because they take something seriously that you do not inherently putting yourself above that person?

Mockery is a form of derision - and to deride someone is to lessen their worth relative to your own. It is by nature putting yourself above someone else.
You can think that all you want, but I never think I'm better than anyone.

I mock myself as much as I mock others, so I don't really give a shit if you think I'm being condescending.

If people are crying out for more diversity, why not make your own game with whatever character you want instead of getting into pointless internet arguments or producing bad webcomics?

Fair enough. Race really shouldn't matter, but I don't see that changing anytime soon. My problem with it is, 'white dude kills black kid in cold blood' is an easy narrative to sell to the public. It's not as simple as that, and people need to take the time to exam the circumstances and facts. There wasn't enough to justifiably convict Zimmerman, and Trayvon Martin wasn't exactly a decent citizen like some people make him out to be.

I'm going to do it! I'll start volunteering at the homeless shelter, start donating money to charity!

Or, you know, none of that ¬_¬

You don't like something? That's fine, you don't like it, no worries.

What does raise questions is why do you care? Other than trying show people the 'error' of their ways in some pseudo-antagonistic fashion?

It's not a matter of what I think, it's a matter of how you behave.

Mockery is condescending by default. You might be self-deprecating as well but you're not displaying that behavior here, so it really doesn't change your condescension in any way.
That may be the case, but thankfully, I don't particularly care what strangers on the internet think of me, I don't know you, so I don't care.

It's the argument trotted out most frequently actually. Why are videogame protagonists largely white heterosexual males? Because gamers are supposedly largely white heterosexual males.
How many games does the sexual preference of the protagonist actually come up? A player might infer one, but usually it's left ambiguous.

It's commentary "crap" related to the "crap" you routinely see on gaming sites as a matter of course.

Well, I haven't seen an "alpha male" or "friend zone" thread in at least a month, but they'll be back.

Perhaps, then, that could be construed as a point. I've seen a lot of straight white dudes who tell people to toughen up and then turn around and whine because their straight white dude lifestyle isn't being pandered to. This includes the "nerd" base.

Actually, I used to play a drinking game where I'd take a shot every time someone who hated The Big Bang Theory because it was "offensive" to nerds turned around and told people who wanted better representation of women/blacks/whoever in games to shut up. I had to quit because in one week I had turned into an alcoholic.

You're free to disagree, of course, but the guys at CM tend to know what they're doing and I think they just got you to make the point for them.

Perhaps it should be taken as a feature, not a bug.

I dislike this line of thinking, because it implies that somehow being less than a perfect citizen makes it permissible for somebody to shoot you.
That's not my point. It's almost never really permissible to shoot anyone. But quite probable that if Trayvon Martin didn't have a history of drug abuse and violence, the entire incident might have been avoided.

Anyway, I'm bowing out for the rest of this thread. Enjoy the flames everybody.

And this is exactly the problem.

So few people care anymore. Even a little bit of empathy and respect for others apparently requires too much effort, because somehow being on the internet is a free pass to abandon our common humanity.
Oh, I care about people who have a point to make, I have yet to see one.

Ergo, I don't care.

It's funny how he wasn't a multicultural hispanic until there was actually a court case underway, though.

As far as Trayvon being a model citizen, it doesn't matter.

As far as evidence goes, they didn't bother to collect evidence at the time. Not to mention the fact that "stand your ground" is still in play and a ridiculous law. The state of Florida opted not to persecute gangbangers who laid an armed trap for a dude who got killed based on the fact that he "fired first." Which is utterly asinine, because pinning a guy with armed thugs apparently doesn't count as a threat but getting punched in the face after you start a fight does.

I care because I thought this was a place for discussion. What I found was a cleverly disguised 4chan. All the hate is there. All the stereotyping. All the memes. Only the targets are different. Nothing is gained. No progress is made. No topic is argued and no points are made. This forum has become a stagnant mess where discussion goes to die, paraded on by faux humor and a tissue thin disguise.

But apparently no one cares.
So why are you still here?

If there's one thing worse than what you accuse this place of being, is sticking around just to tell everyone how mean they are and how they need to take people's feelings into account.
