What? A waifu thread? On MY Escapist? oh lord

She reminds me of myself, except I'm tall and muscular and she has a small frame, but we have a very similar personality. Lucky Star was one of the first Animes I ever watched and I connected to her immediately.

And of course...

I mean, how can you NOT?

My choice:

Marida Cruz. One of the most tragic characters in the Gundam universe, but still she is a very nice person. Not to mention she pilots some of the most badass mobile suits imaginable.

You are assuming that all people who play games with characters, play as them as though they are that character. For me personally I look at it the same way as I do a book. I am not that character, I am simply seeing the events from their perspective. The fact that I am the one controlling their actions doesn't make any difference. I am essentially the narrator the way I look at it.
I get your point. I'm not saying that all people who do that are perverts who want to... engage in generally not highly esteemed sexual practices (not sure how to describe it better without spoiler), just that I find it weird that such a romantic attachment comes to be in the first place since you experience this story through this specific lens. I don't think I want to dish out moral judgments in a thread about waifus...
I think it makes perfect sense to be attracted to Elizabeth. In hindsight it might seem a bit creepy, but as you're playing she's EXACTLY the kind of person people are going to be attracted to. She's designed that way. Your main goal at the outset is to track down and rescue a beautiful young woman trapped in a tower. When you get there she's well dressed, polite, intelligent, capable, and genuinely helpful in gameplay. She's super happy to see you, she's excited to be out of her tower, it's like a cliche romance story until the shooting starts up again. At that point, she very clearly has a father and you are there to rescue her from him. There is absolutely no reason to be suspect of any attraction you have toward her over the course of the game. It makes sense to the player that Booker would risk life and limb to save Elizabeth. Not only is she his meal ticket, she's also the love interest. That's why the ending is so effective, it's because an entire game's worth of buildup and sexual tension has been completely undercut by the realization that you are both her father and the bad guy.

When I play games, unlike the both of you, I am neither a narrator nor do I assume the role of the main character. Instead, my consciousness inhabits the player character's body. I prefer the style of games like Skyrim and Fallout, because they allow me to control a blank slate. It takes me out of the game when I'm told that I am someone else. After playing Bioshock Infinite for a while, I got used to being addressed as "Booker" but at no point did I become Booker. When I got to the end, I was shocked by and appreciated the ending, but I'm still very attracted to Elizabeth. The feelings that I've cultivated for that character don't just go away because the shell I used to interact with the game fathered her. I am not her father. I inhabited her father's body for a while, cultivated a relationship with her, and then she killed my avatar. From where I sit I'm still me, Booker's her dad (and out of the picture), and she's still a strong, attractive young woman of no relation to myself.

It certainly isn't creepy for a player to find Elizabeth an attractive character, any more or any less than any other character. She isn't off-limits because our avatar in her game of origin turns out to be her father. When we're here to discuss Waifus, we're talking about our attraction as an outside observer toward a specific character in a fictional narrative. As an outside observer, there's nothing wrong with anyone picking Elizabeth as their Waifu.

The closest that I can think of who'd fit this term is...

Collett from Tales of Symphonia
This has nothing to do with her art design or wardrobe choice because frankly she just looks like a normal person wearing an ugly outfit. This picture makes it look a better than the game does but it's still ugly.

What makes her stand out is her personality and voice acting.
She's thoughtful, caring, warm, genuine but also a klutz who is somewhat shy.
She seems like a great person who I'd want to get to know better.

Oh man that's a tough one... there are actually so many characters I adore it's hard to narrow it down to just one.

But if I really had to choose one, it would be Hanako Ikezawa from "Katawa Shoujo".

I've played this game through multiple times and I just can't help but adore her. I can't really explain why I like her so much, I just do. It probably has a lot to do with her story and it's "aesop" so to speak.

I've given this too much thought and I blame my mother; if she didn't freak out and change the channel every time I put on Josie and the Pussycats when I was little, I'd probably think you're all nuts. Could be worse, if she freaked out on me walking in on her slaughtering an animal I guess I might've ended up like Ed Gein.

But as I can relate to the thread I have to say I've always had a thing for Bulma from DBZ: she doesn't take shit from anyone, she's really smart, and always has a different hairstyle.

I always thought Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop) always had a cool sexiness to her too.

Oh god no! STAY BACK DEMON! :O

[HEADING=3]Asuka Langley Soryu/Shikinami[/HEADING] (If you're following the Rebuild films.)

I am fully aware that this image is based off the Rebuild design of Asuka.

Asuka has always struck me as a hopelessly tragic character, doomed to absolute failure, while still standing defiant against an unkind world that does not want her.

On the surface, Asuka is an arrogant, overbearing, abrasive, hostile, ego-centric individual and the poster girl for what would appear to be narcissism.

Peel away the layers and we discover that Asuka hides under a facade of self-assured bravado. Fundamentally, she yearns for attention and approval through her performance in the EVA Unit-02 and every single failure (personal or percieved) allows her tremendously self-critical nature to pummel her self-esteem even further into the ground.

Anyone that Asuka has cared for has either killed themselves or rejected her. When needing the care of someone the most in those moments, Asuka only knows how to push people away, not knowing how to embrace them because she never learned to reciprocate or show affection in a healthy manner.

Sadly, if someone had just shown her some measure of continued affection, patience and care, Asuka may have resolved some of her issues. Alas, the EVA universe marches forward.

Regardless of her intense self-loathing, Asuka continually attempts to throw herself even further, trying that much harder to succeed, only to hopelessly start breaking as the world seemingly marches forward without giving her time to recover.

Overall, Asuka initially seems like a testament to sheer self-determination by having clawed her way up from her familial trauma, lack of affection and abandonment over the years by focussing on the attainable.

And for that, I admire her and I respect her. I admire Asuka because of her flaws, she tries to continue in spite of them. She displays tremendous emotional fortitude (initially), while simultaneously remaining hopelessly broken and maladjusted.

No, I do not want to have sex with her. "What are you, stupid?!" This is me sharing my sheer admiration towards this particular character. Yes, I do find her character design to be immensely attractive. But over time, I grew attached to her as a character. That's where the admiration ends.

Alright, watch out everyone, superior waifu coming through:

Yeah, that girl right here! I always had a very particular fondness for Bayonetta even though visually she's not my type at all. But she's _the_ shining example for how to make a good female action game protagonists and one of my favourite characters in gaming. She's strong and confident without ever giving up her feminity. Whe's incredibly sexual but yet never objectified but rather always using her own sexuality do show dominance. She revels in her own over the top campness but yet she always does it with a cheeky sense of self awareness. She's independent, competent, witty and classy and in a medium where a lot of female character and almost all female protagonist are either too objectified, to masculine or some combination thereof she stands out in the best way possible. She might not be the heroine the medium deserves but she's the one it needs right now!

You don't choose a waifu, Drum. It just happens. Y'know, like in real life.

Similarly, multiple waifu is a bit of a faux pas as I understand.

Oooooh there is so much I could say against Bayonetta.

It's absolutely fine to like the character and to say that she is a well-designed character. With this, I agree.

But it's absolutely WRONG to say she's not objectified and is a paradigm of an independent, competent female character.
I'd feel bad for derailing this thread and i'd rather not but personally i wouldn't mind having that discussion. What exatly do you dislike about her?

Waifus and Husbandos, huh? Well, I think I have a few.
<img src=http://img5.joyreactor.cc/pics/post/full/%D0%98%D0%B3%D1%80%D0%B0-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B2-%D1%81%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8B-%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B2%D1%83%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%B0-%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0%B5-%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%B8-716625.jpeg width=600 height=450>
Sansa Stark stands as what is probably my most loved female character ever, but only the version one will find in the original A Song of Ice and Fire books. She's has a lovable personality, an amazing and tragic character development and her mind and viewpoint are one of the most interesting in the whole series. Also, speaking of A Song Of Ice and Fire...
<img src=http://www.cinelogin.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Brienne.jpg width=600 height=450>
This hideous looking 6'6" tall lady is Brienne of Tarth, and I just love her, when I read her chapters, specially the ones in late A Feast For Crows, I can't help but to want to hug her tightly.
<img src=http://eroderekko.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/hanako-1.jpg width=600 height=450>
Hanako from Katawa Shoujo is the closest I have to a traditional Waifu, however. I find her immensely adorable and absolutely love her story route, finding it the best route in the game.

Moving on to Man Crushes, then:
<img src=http://media.animevice.com/uploads/2/29947/674484-vash_the_stampede.jpg width=600 height=450>
I think that Vash The Stampede is the greatest character that has ever come out from anime and manga. I love his personality, his backstory, his energy, his beliefs are pretty much exactly the same as mine, I can't help but to always feel happy and smile when he is happy, and always feel sorry for him when he's is passing through darker moments.
<img src=http://m2.img.libdd.com/farm5/d/2012/0627/19/8C7FB9C072FAF90833F279E5602453F7_B1280_1280_1000_2243.JPEG width=450 height=600>
Going back to ASOIAF, I have the sickest of admirations for the book version of Petyr Baelish/Littlefinger. He's quiet, he's THE Chessmaster behind every event, he always has everything calculated and can manipulate everyone and use every turn of events to his advantages. I love how he used to be an idealistic sweet boy, and life turned into the cold villain he is now. He is a despicable monster, but I can't help but to sometimes cheer for him due to how amazing he is at everything.

However, all of the above are completely irrelevant when compared to the Waifus of Waifus, the most kawaii character ever created, she who fills my dreams every night:
<img src=http://erogamer.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/saya-says-hello.png width=600 height=450>
Saya from Song of Saya! I mean, look at her!, isn't that a face that says "Welcome home!" She's sweet, she has the cutest of loli looks, she's girly and gentle, while being a bit crazy and extremely smart. She tries to cook for the main character, lives with him and always supports him when no one else does, she's the perfect Waifu!
But seriously.

Ahh the seething underbelly of the Escapist finally comes into full view.

Not to indicate any disrespect but I do sometimes wonder if we, as a society, have become so conditioned to not making judgments about the behavior of others that almost everything is supposedly okay now as long as no one loses an eye.

Twenty years ago we'd have looked at someone who was a little too attached to their cat as a "little bit off" and a cat is at least a physical being with some level of cohabitation related attachment and even levels of personality and expressive capability. These days we just nod and smile at the idea of people forming attachments with inanimate drawings.

Point of this post? Expressing something that's been brewing in my head for awhile but attempting to do so in a respectful and non-confrontational manner.

I'm not being judgmental, I'm simply questioning our recently conditioned lack of judgmental analysis of well...anything. Its extremely easy to sit back and consider, "Well its the internet, I can be as weird as I want to be and I don't have to worry about the opinions of other people because no one really knows who I am anyways."....what is harder is to actually understand how easy that is, and how much harder finding the ever greying line of morality, within oneself, in the highly interconnected world of today, really is.

Ahh but what is morality? A very chancy word to use on the internet these days, especially without conjuring up the poltergeists of religion and ethics. One of which is just as prone to critical analysis as anything else and the other of which has been ground into a fine paste and spat back out by a professional system of legal manipulation as to be almost unrecognizable as the meaning of the word which describes it.

Regardless I won't suffer the reader with further paragraphs of non-additive drivel. I will simply say...this is definitely something that we need to be thinking about. And its trends such as these which make me think about it quite a bit more often.
