Why are russians always evil?

I'm pretty sure every Call of Duty game featuring Russians has you actually playing a Russian in the game, switching between American, British or Russian etc. Ultimately leading to a "Allied Victory Celebration" at the end.

Like someone said earlier, I guess a strong Russian protagonist doesn't count?

In fact, I'd be hard pressed to find a game these days depicting "Evil Russians". The stigma now is the Middle East. The original Metal Gear Solid had somewhat Russian enemies, but the later games moved on to PMCs and .. other(s) of undetermined origins.

This. There is still anti-Russian sentiment from the cold war days in the US.
Also, it's the vodka, it makes them more evil with each sip!

communism ironically is the best form of government, it has just yet to work
And how would it work? If we were all mindless drones? Purely idealistically, it's a good form of government because it's 'fair'. However, the big problem in Russia was that no one could be arsed to follow long educations to become a doctor, only to get the same reward a supermarketclerk does. People like getting rewards for what they do and communism fails there. Not only that though. How many people do you know that like being like everyone else?

Because they like to hold on to their resources and people (Americans) think that's them being mean. A country protecting their own interests and safeguarding their future? Monsters! But to refer to a previous post I reckon it's the whole 'Cold War Thing'.

It's same thing as Germans, everything is influenced by history.
Excacly. The soviet union was no better then the nazzi germany
Don't make it sound as if I think their still like that I simply mean it's due to past actions that have influenced steryotypes and develepors can't see to let go of thoes ideas.
I mean that. And that is the truth. IF you have doubts, watch the documentary "The soviet story"
The main reason America doesn't have quite as many atrocities on its' back is because it's such a young country comparatively. Although their actions have not always been clear of concience, either.
I agree. America did some questionable deeds. I am talking about the vietnam war and the war on iraq. Both of those wars were easilly avoidable, but greed for resources kept the war machine going.

"A russian cleans up in chigargo" Featured our beloved terminator as a russian cop who had to clean up some scum in America.

It's because the russians we're the enemy once, so they stay that way in games... call it propaganda or patriotism
Is that the Red Heat movie? James Belushi and Arnold?

So in Soviet Union (which FYI consisted of 15 states, not only Russia) nobody could be arsed to study, yet its citizens were amongst the best educated in the world?

And contrary to your belief, a surgeon or an engineer was earning more than a store clerk, and received more perks - like being higher on a waiting list for a free flat or a car. Soviet socialism wasn't about making everyone exactly equal. It was about people contributing to the society best they could and getting a proportional reward for that.

Russians (or any other nation, for that matter) are portrayed as evil because they're very different, and Americans tend to be very xenophobic.

Please, it's the same from the other side! Everybody is somewhat xenophobic. Americans are also portrayed as evil regardless of the accent. Well, maybe except for texas.

Communism is basicly how ants work. Well sadly we're not ants, we're humans. We're just not hard-wired for communism. Too bad though, since ants and similair animals (bees, wasps, termites, etc) are way more succesfull then humans :p

Anyway, I blaim it on the accent, booze, the cold and the Cold War. O and this:

Somewhat. The difference with Americans is that too often they act agressively against anything that is outside of their framework of "normality".

I'm tired of the gang of vilains possible. Americans, British, Russians, Germans, Chineses, Japaneses and people from Iraq comes in too much video games.

I never saw a Canadian villain. I would love to see the unseen villain from my country. Maybe they're more evil than the rest of the world.
