Would you still drink milk if cows were anthropomorphic?

The question is: so now that all the worlds cows have become humanoid (close to a billion according to Google) and assuming they retain the intellect of cows, what do we do with them now that they are useless for both meat and dairy production? There is no way the public would stand for a mass slaughter, is there?
Public won't get much choice, cows are the farmer's property and no farmer is going to keep an economic drain lying around in any number. Maybe some might get adopted by animal welfare people, zoos and other ummm ..."interested parties", but otherwise there's going to be a lot of very cheap beef on the market for a little while.

this is just an elaborate vibe check to see if there's a safe enough percentage of like-minded members to come out about a fetish or two, ain't it? 😉 no need to worry, fam, no judgement here. plus anyone only needs 5% tops as long as they vocal. some unscrupulous ppl even ride comfortabltly under 1% with focused astroturfing from a couple of puppet accounts - not something I'd recommend, but is an option

Do you think people would eat the beef? I couldn't even get a yes or no answer as to whether people would drink the milk, I can't imagine most people would eat meat from an animal that looks like that. God, could you imagine the trauma people who work in slaughter houses would get?
Oh...gah.

PETA would be so annoying about this.

OTOH, if you skinned one properly, you could get a one piece person sized leather outfit pretty easily.
I'm imagining that and it's just horrific in every way.

Oh, are they human sized? The total mass of cattle would got down a lot, and cattle are a big greenhouse gas producer.

If everyone went off red meat, and moved to white (fish and poultry, not people, I mean), that'd help the environment a lot.

I don't think it would necessarily carry on as an industry, but it's not going to waste.

I suppose they'd be, like, big people, but yeah probably a bit less weight than a standard cow.

I've never really understood how cows produce greenhouse gasses. Like they eat a ton of grass and stuff, but shouldn't that have a net neutral effect when the grass regrows later? Unless you are referring to deforestation for grazing land or something like that.

Methane is a relatively short acting but very potent greenhouse gas, it's not so much about carbon storage in this case.

Apparently they produce lots of methane...as ZykonTheLich just said.

As an aside, grasslands absorb less sunlight than forest do. Not to say deforestataion isn't bad, but that it complicates things.

Cows, like pretty much all mammals, only give milk if they recently gave birth. And this is what would basically kill the milk industry in this scenario.

Get get off the internet, and touch some grass. On second thought....

Man, you people are just so hostile to hypothetical situations. I swear the Escapist used to be more fun than this... Actually, no, it wasn't.

Yeah, this is the conclusion I reach earlier in the thread.

I just did a little trolling on my own. I didn't expect you to take the bait.
