My point being, why would you pay for something you cannot get 100% out of. So you don't care about online play, media, updates, dlc, etc. $400 is pretty steep for JUST a game console.

Two reasons:
A lot of people paid 400 dollars for JUST a game console in the past.
There are no other options if you only want a game console.

For the last time, the XBOX One is not a game console. They have said it, the marketing has said it, the features say it. Games are not its primary function, the device needs an update to allow it to be taken offline as this was not its intended usage.

Xbox One is a game console who seems to have forgotten that to attract... i dont know people who want to pay 400 more for TV or something. If it was not intended usage to be used offline then the device was broken by design.

I did not say the Internet was equivalent to a network. I said a network is required for pretty much every interconnected device to work. You cannot, at all, make a phone call, without a network. If your phone had radio capability it could be used as a walkie talkie, beyond that it would be useless. your TV, cannot, do anything, without being connected to Something else. Period.

And light bulb cannot work without electricity. Internet however are NOT something you cannot work without. Microsoft however tried to trick us into thinking it is. Yes, internet is not same as network, and yet you keep bringing examples of network as if they were examples of internet. you yourself claim that your examples are worthless, nice.

The XBOX was designed to be online. They decided to not do this due to public stupidity and complaints, it needs to be patched to accommodate. Nothing crazy or unsavory about it. They are changing its intended usage, foolishly IMO but they are changing it none the less.

I'm sorry, end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it-and-I'm-just-fine, but the point has clearly been missed by you AND Microsoft. Take note of how the crowd feels, gauge what they want, and THEN decide on a course of action. This thread denies your line of thinking, and not without good reason, but you choose to behave like we're the odd ones. Well, I can't defend you from the consortium beating you into the ground with the logic you decide to be unfounded. You will not be convinced, so I believe that's enough said. However, by that token, you can now do us the similar service and quit trying to convince us of something we do not believe, merely because we won't see it your way.

This thread and this site represent an insignificant amount of MS's user base.

I don't need a defense because I will state the FACTS one last time. More people use the 360 online than off. The growth has been exponential in the past 3 years, there is NO reason for MS to think this trend won't continue. So making a console that is designed for online use is a no brainer.

I am not trying to convince you of anything. I don't care what you think about MS. The facts are the facts. And your complaints will have no impact on MS or the XBOX One. You represent an irrelevant minority who are whining about a non issue.

I'm amazed at the people here seeing nothing wrong with this. The box itself is shipping with an incomplete OS, and people are OK with that? Really? Why couldn't MS wait until they were done with the thing before shipping it?

Nonsense. I presented the facts about XBL and why the console is designed to be online. You people just ranted about a non issue for anyone wanting to take 100% advantage of the device. And as for the warning, I sent a message back to the admin tell them to either ban me or stop wasting my time with such nonsense. So save it.

It is not a game console, it is a media console. They said it needed the internet. They are patching it to play games offline. Those are the facts, nothing underhanded by MS no matter what opinions you may have. Sorry.

They have a good reason to embrace an online audience. As stated before that number has doubled since 2010. Bottom line, your wrong. It is a media console designed to work online. It was presented as such(all of the initial features present by MS were online based). There is NO evidence to support the idea of its primary purpose as playing games. They could have easily out spec'ed the PS4, the could have easily made just another game console. They didn't. They focused on a well rounded entertainment hub, and yes I will call it that because that is how I have always used my 360.

You are joking right? What are they going to "bust" me for? Using their own articles and that of other reputable tech sources to disprove your opinions?

I told you and the only other person arguing with me, XBOX One is a media device, it was marketed as such, a day one patch for tech is common, there is nothing nefarious about MS's business model with this gen of console.

The sales numbers seem to suggest that XBOX One will do just fine(which I said would be the case for both consoles). I also said that both last gen systems would continue to thrive and be supported(another fact, also evident in sales numbers), and that your vocal minority grievances were irrelevant.

I am still not sure as to how you think any point you have tried to make is justified based on the ACTUAL data, but as I have stated, all of your opinions are easily disputed by the actual numbers. You have an opinion, ok, that is awesome, good for you. I got ONE warning for calling Strazdas a genius, and I left it at that. Big difference between making you look foolish with sourced data and calling you names out of spite.

One last review of the facts.

- MS presented XBOX One as a media device.
- It requires the internet to be 100% functional(just like PS4)
- XBOX live numbers drove the decision to go in this direction.
- Once patched, the XBOX One will work just fine offline.
- Initial sales suggest that the device will be on par with its predecessor and competition

Those are facts, not opinion, as in they are actually what has and what is happening with this console. You may not agree, but as stated earlier, your opinion in that regard is irrelevant to the facts. Not really concerned about being moderated for presenting external information that disproves your opinions. And I had no problem telling the people who sent me a warning as much. I posted my thoughts in rebuttal to your opinions, and I used outside sources to back up those thoughts.

I never claimed one console to be better than the other, just made it clear that they were not just for gaming, no matter what lame fanboy arguments were being made. In this case, the sky is actually blue, with data to prove it, you saying it is green will not change that fact, no matter how hard you try... Sorry, that is just how it is.
