No.

Oh, by Haruhi No!

NOoooooo!

This is- this is an abomination. Heresy! PURGE IT WITH FIRE!

Oh god, I need brain bleach...

Why? Oh, 2K, why?

Seriously, The tactics game is turned into a generic FPS. The Best Game Ever... is to be bumr***** and whored out to give it's name to... this.

Gentlemen, I am mad. This is yet another title that is crushed under the treads of moneygrubbing from mediocrecy. This is a sad day indeed, for like FO3, I doubt this will be any kind of successor. It may be a decent game on it's own, if it gets executed nicely, but I seriously doubt they'll be able to get the feeling of the original X-com-series into it. The terror of facing heavy-plasma weaponry from outside your field of view, the 80% casualty ratio as you storm the first battleship, the terror missions from hell that force you to shoot the civilians first to stop Chrysalids from breeding...

One more piece of my childhood, about to be crushed. Gee, thanks.

I swear I was 8 years old again (or however old I was) when I saw Mufassa falling to the stampede, I think I screamed out along with Simba...

I was never a fan of the series, so I can't share your distaste for this title. What I can say is a shooter set in the 50s is something that actually kind of interests me, though fighting pools of sentient oil doesn't.

Well one good thing came of this. After reading everyone's praise for the original I bought it on steam for 5 bucks.

Best 5 bucks I ever spent.

Interest is piqued. I do think however that they shouldn't have labeled this an X-Com game, as the only people who knew X-Com are already complaining vividly about it.

Who knows, maybe it will turn out like Fallout 3, where the people who didn't play the previous Fallouts love it to death immediately, and the rest are slowly converted (with a few die-hard naysayers.)

It is just a trailer. Not the actual game. I thought STALKER was a great game from watching the trailer... but the massive bugs in the game caused problems with anyone trying to enjoy the game.

a trailer is meant to create hype or buzz... and what do you know... it did. It cause negative thoughts and positive thoughts that will rage until they put out another trailer...

X-com deserves more than a reskin of a sequel to a system shock 2 copy.

....Okay, I get that you loved the original strategy game.

But I saw no problems with that.

Infact I thought it was suitably horrific and fairly good.

Why would it be disappoiting ? It was known for a while it will have nothing to do with the old school turn based strategy Xcom series was before.

From a trailer, it looks like a very interesting shooter.

Fallout 3 wasn't really close to the originals, and apparently, so does the new XCOM.
However, the trailer actually looks very interesting. Count me in.
I don't think that's a very good comparison because Fallout 3 still maintains a lot of the same ideas as it's predecessors. This literally shares almost nothing in common with the prior XCom games.

I think I would actually be more interested in the game if it was simply titled something else.
"Almost nothing"? Why it's JUST LIKE X-COM: Enemy Unknown, only they took out the classic UFO stuff... and the Greys... and the strategy... and the investigations... and the research... and the air-intercepts... and the tactics... and the squaddies... and the teamwork...

Ooooh, but they made it all about THE WORST THING THAT EVER CAME OUT OF X-FILES.

*Sigh*, I think another piece of my soul just died. It will be buried right beside the Star Wars franchise.

Say you love, for instance, Mario. Say they stop making Mario games for 20 years. Now say someone announced they were going to remake Mario. Say you then find out they're actually making The SIMS XIV: Mario clothing edition.

Original Xcom [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/XCOMUFODefense/Update%202/index.html]

My main issue with the video is the aliens were way too weak for an XCom game. In the originals, aliens would not only one shot soldiers, but your puny earth weapons wouldn't have nearly the range or even damage to kill (or even hit) aliens reliably (with the exception of things like missile launchers).

Aliens were scary. Your best soldiers could be lost in an instant until the later parts of the game when you could research alien weapons and armor a bit (and manage to drag some soldiers through a few fights for some experience). And even then, sometimes your best soldiers would be rendered useless in the second half of the game when the aliens started mind controlling the weak willed ones.

But who knows, maybe they'll make a decent FPS out of it. The floating dimensional whatsits looked kinda cool.
They might just be the basic aliens, after all, I'm pretty sure you could kill a Sectoid with harsh language.

Knowing the state of some of the Sim's 'stuff' packs in the past, I wouldn't put it past EA. I mean, IKEA?!

wow... this is like playing bioshock with the graphics from TF2 or battlefield heroes
and i guess the only thing in common with the original game is the title

Having downloaded the first X-Com and played it...to me this looks fricken awesome.

And sicne it kinda takes place near Bioshock and Bioshock , 2K has the art all ready down. I'm sure they can pull something through.

People actually think that that trailer looked good? To me it was more like a mod, with flat retro graphics and quirky (though strangely easy to kill) enemies, reminiscent of a HL2 mod I've recently played. The special effects were lacking, the gunplay looked average - what has it got going for it?!

No, but the nay-sayers are being so loud that those of us willing to give it the benefit of the doubt are being drowned out.
