No I don't take him seriously he is a comic who explodes the smallest things to big issues. While minor things can bother someone that much it's not like that to everyone.

Yes, his rating system is the best. Which he says "a complex opinion can't be summed up numerically"
This basically - He describes the flaws of a game rather than showering it in priase like every other professional review.
It's rare to find a game that does absolutely nothing right (Dante's Inferno) and don't you think the bits a game does get right deserve a bit of praise, even just a mention? Plus I'm not sure where these credible (i.e. not people off gamespot or amazon, they only choose to review games they particularly like) reviewers who do nothing but heap praise on any title exist, the majority of reviews I've seen do mention good points but certainly bring up any criticism they have.

I don't think "seriously" is the proper word for how to interpret Yahtzee... Does his critique of games usually hit the mark? I believe so. You'll notice if you pay attention very carefully that if a game does have a good aspect, he will briefly mention it, and coming from him, that's a huge compliment. And if he actually says a game is FUN (as he did with psychonauts) I will definetly try it out, even if it's not my cup of tea (as was the case with psychonauts) and you know what? It was fun! You just have to read in between the lines for his compliments.

One of the best example of Yahtzee's opinion on the gaming industry can be seen in the super mario galaxy 2 video, specifically the bit towards the end. He has no problem acknowledging good game, but he also wants to see the industry evolves.

I generally see what he's said about a game before I buy it, but I wouldn't change my decision to buy or not buy based solely on what he said.

He makes some good points now and again, but I always take his "reviews" with an extra-large dose of salt...

So, no, I don't take him seriously.

I seriously hope no one actually takes him seriously otherwise... Mainly because... he hates everything really. Yeah, it'd be like listening to someone who basically says every game sucks and not buying or even trying said games...

Generally, yes. He's actually pretty honest about it if he's picking at something pettily, which is a rare trait in critics. I find his reviews both entertaining and a good rundown of the potential pitfalls of a game. At the end of the day however, there's no way to know whether you like something or not till you roadtest it yourself!

Yes everything Yahzee says is gaming lore and should be taken literally and fundamentally without question.

No - Well, not in these reviews. If you want to praise Dantes Inferno for example, watch the IGN or Gamespot reviews, as they are 75% praise, and sort of mention the faults. Whereas Yahtzee tells you the bad and sometimes mentions the profoundly good. The best thing to do is watch both, then crossreference.

Yes. Everyone does, even if they don't want to. When you want to watch one of his videos, you don't just say "I'm watching this so I can laugh." You also want to know Yahtzee's opinion on the game. It may not change whether or not you buy a game, but you'd be lying if you said you thought nothing of his opinions.

I like listening to his reviews. He seems to hate nearly everything I love, but that's alright. Just because we disagree, doesn't mean I don't take his opinions seriously.

I actually prefer his system more. I want to know what's wrong with a game before I buy it. I already expect it to be fun.

Although I can't say I've often taken his opinion into much consideration before buying a game. That would require waiting for the game to be released in Australia, and he works on one a week. It is nice sometimes to hear him tear into some of the games I liked and ones I didn't like.

For the most part I find he brings up interesting (and funny) points that are usually well though out, and well above the standard "it works and is funner than things that don't work, so 10/10" reviews that come out of more standard reviews.

Usually what I go by when buying a game is
-whether I'm actually looking forward to it
-does the gameplay look good (aka the youtube videos I always watch before I buy)
-do the mainstream reviewers like it at all (their scores are usually quite inflated from a reasonable review, so if a game gets 5/10 on IGN it probably should be burned for being so crappy).
-does yatzhee bring up anything that would seem to actually ruin the experience (as he himself has said, he's a critic, not a reviewer, if he can't think of anything to criticize, or what he talks about isn't a problem for you, you're going to LOVE the game).
