I never had a problem with kids using the mic, the problem is most of them are just stupid or annoying. Usually they just scream and cry into the microphone. Or they try to fit in by being crude. I once got on a server that had a kid who literally said this to everyone.

"Hey slut, Why'd you die you slut? YOU'RE A SLUT!"(pardon the french)

QFT.

Personally I generally only play online with friends, and definitely only voice chat with friends...

But in answer to your question - generally people hate them because they say annoying things. Lets be honest, voice chat with people is much like conducting a conference phone call with people. People you don't know. If it is too quiet for too long, it gets uncomfortable - people feel they have to say something and, generally, they can think of nothing intelligent or relevant so say so they just spout annoying rubbish until you mute them.

Young gamers just get more hate because the 'random' things they spout are even less interesting to older gamers than the usual rubbish.

Oh yeah, and they do it like banshees.
Why was i quoted for this. I was just saying when i was younger we did not have online gaming.

It's not that kids are annoying, moreso that dumb trashtalk and whining is annoying, That's made even worse if the voice is high pitched and childlike. With that said though, the most annoying smack talkers tend to be old enough to know better.

well having a prejudice of any kind is un-wise but I find the only reason I tend to give the younger gamers is their almost coy knowledge about everything, which isn't their fault since their young and all but it still annoys me.

Also their tendency to be unpleasant to talk to with their newly acquired puberty that makes them need to prove their masculinity (or feminines in occasions ) makes me very annoyed to the point of dare I say it, develop a prejudiced?

Unless the voice is actually going to cause my ears to bleed, I have no problem with younger online gamers.

Oh, wait, scratch that.
I hate playing with younger online players because half the team will stop and comment on it and all that random shit gets really really annoying quite fast.
Some older gamers will live and let live, but seriously, if your ONLY problem with them is you don't like the sound of his voice, perhaps they aren't the only one that needs to grow up?

If they are saying retarded things, I'll dislike them because of that.
But it isn't just the younger people that are guilty of that, nor do I say they are more likely to be guilty, it's just that usually you'll run into more younger gamers online - and thus, more idiot younger gamers. To me, it's a scale thing.

I personaly think it's because most of them don't comprehend the fact they need to take responsibility for what they do/say.

The issue with voice is... Eh.. I guess it folds into the above really, those that screech at max volume into the mic need to be shot none the less.

I don't show less respect for someone just because they're younger, I show them less respect if they're morons. I've played with kids who are better gamers than adults, but I find that most young online gamers I've encountered are brats so annoying I want to set their faces on fire.

Though, some hilarity can arise from that too, as we had a 12yrold (who was, incidentially, a complete idiot) in our old guild on WoW, and during a night of x-rated discussion between the older people in the guild ended up asking "What is :insert random, obscene word:?". Upon which we realized that our discussion might not have been all that appropriate for young ears. It became especially hilarious when he got the reply to "ask his mother".

And he did.

I started the online gaming at 10 on TF: classic. But yes, I hade a high-pitched voice, yet I never was told to shut up. Then again I only talked if it was a good conversation or it was tactical. "I saw it and it is actually good" "heavy at our entrence. kill 'em". I remember playing with this one older kid, he spewed annoyance. Always yelling hax or some really explicit language. Needless to say, he was kicked. Just the other day, this little kid with the screen name "florida joe" started spamming "can ya hear me?" over the mic. Wasn't too long before everyone said nope.

Racial slurs interlaced with obscene profanity coming from a spoiled, 12 year old white boy.

That has been my experience with younger gamers. They don't know how to just play the game, take a loss if it comes their way, and accept victory graciously.

Once they can do that, THEN and ONLY THEN should they be allowed to have a mic. Heck, have a maturity test... keep some of the older ones out of voice chat too.

Because children are typically moronic, I was, you were, we all were. There are many exceptions, but I think 12 year olds and under really shouldn't be allowed to have a mic. (obviously there would be no way to enforce this)
What if we wired up the consoles so that if the mic detected constant noise over a certain pitch level it would blow the console up? Heck, it would even stop those annoying assholes who sing through it!

They'll probably be banned sometime... so I guess its not a really bad thing. At least only a temporary one.

I was playing Diablo online when I was 12. I was born in 1987.
i was born at the same time, I mainly ment with console games, dreamcast was the first and that did not last long. I don't care with young kids play in my games as long as they to just yell annoying shit the whole time, but that is a rule for anyone I am playing with.

As long as they are mature, and don't mix up swearing with cool, then I don't care.

I have no problem with the fact that people have higher voices than I when play online, I just don't like anyone who's an immature ass. I know more younger kids that are mature than adults, in reality.

Well, I started going on xbox live when I was 12.

Thankfully though, I have a rather deep voice and am quite polite, so I was often mistaken for someone a lot older than me.

Kids that are immature are usually the reason alot of people don't like going online in the first place; because they are told of these little kids butchering the english language while trying to play the game in the best loophole win they can.
It's the exact opposite for me. The reason I don't play online games is that I don't want to be seen as an annoying 12 year old. I'm not experienced at the games and I don't want to ruin anyone else's experience, so I stick with my nice single player games. Oh, sometimes I'll think that maybe I should try something like Team Fortress 2 out, but then the little voice in my head goes "that's really not a very good idea, you know." Of course, I try to stay very grammatically correct and I couldn't find little glitches even if I tried, but still...

Also, I have no clue whether my voice is annoying. Probably.

I've only had bad experiences with those little rascals who just learned the word "fuck".
