It's a momentous day. Just had two bites of my first ever Big Mac.

I don't know what possessed my gf to get one; we rarely eat fast food, but she just jumped, left, and came back with a Big Mac. I tried the first bite, and it was inoffensive, but my second bite had a healthy amount of their signature sauce, and absolutely not. Hard pass. She's butt-hurt right now; she was really hoping to change my opinion on staple condiments. Next will probably be a Whopper, but thankfully, the nearest Burger King is too far away for any of her impulse purchases.

Big Mac? 0/10.
McDonald's is perplexing to me. I used to have to travel through rural Canada a lot for work so I've eaten and compared a ridiculous amount of junk food. McDonald's is one of two fast food restaurants I've ever eaten at where my enjoyment of the food goes down as the price of the food goes up.

Cheeseburger? Fine, tastes like salt, ketchup and cheese. And a little beef. Double cheese - that but more. But the instant you leave the value menu it goes to hell. After a certain point it just turns into "sauce flavor and onion". They somehow even screw up basic no name brand BBQ sauce.

ok, technically, I could get in the car early morning tomorrow and have lunch in Paris by noon, be back by dinner, but I'd be spending 90% of it in transit, unless I got on the TGV, but that's a) not cheap, b) needs reservation so not on a whim.
Everything about that sentence infuriates me.

McDonalds is good for their fries; after that, there's always a better option.

I'm reliably informed that Big Mac's taste different from country to country. In fact there's a few YouTube videos of some over-enthusiastic jackasses making that point. I personally put it down to differences in acceptable meat quality standards for the most part.

McDonalds was better before they made their food taste better. It used to be the perfect hangover food, since it was kinda bland, it tasting better makes it less useful for hangovers.

This is 100% true. it's somehow over-spiced now, almost shockingly salty.

And their old crispy buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was much better than their current soft Not Popeyes chicken sandwich.

The only thing worth buying at McDonalds is their breakfast.

Their hashbrowns are actually shockingly surprisingly good.

I'd say pretty much every time I traveled abroad, I ate at a McDonald's. Not particularly because we wanted to (although occasionally you'd see some really weird local offering that's too interesting to pass up), but because of the price. Our family wasn't hard up (obviously, since we could afford to travel), but paying up to 10x more for food than at home is killer, especially since we were a big family. We'd still eat local food when we could of course, but we found that far too often the easiest restaurants to find and eat at after a tiring day were garbage tourist traps that were pricey AND had terrible food. Might as well get terrible but cheap food.

I tried making carrot cake this weekend(because I was in the mood for baking, and carrots were on sale last week). I brought it to the work this Monday, and at least four people complimented it. Claiming it was really good, not merely thanking for the cake.

For understandable reasons, since I agree. It was really good.

So my hot take is this: carrot cake is really good.

I am not one to waste food. The shit I have eaten over the years because I didn't want to throw it away... but good god, McDonalds hash browns...maybe it was the outlet but fuck me, semi raw potato cooked in old chip grease. Instant bin job.

That might be the hottest take in this thread thus far.

McDonald's hashbrowns are as amazing as their fries. If you got a bad batch or something, fine, but 99.99999% of the time, they are delicious. I once saw a man killed over a McDonald's hashbrown... that might be hyperbole, but had I actually seen it happen, I might almost understand. I'd say try again, at a different location, but won't force the issue, but I've only ever seen one person say they don't like those hashbrowns, and you're that one person. I know some don't eat them because they're unhealthy as hell, but normal people who understand you only live once and that we're all going to die one day will NEVER turn down a McDonald's hashbrown.

Sounds like a bad outlet. Maccas hash browns are one thing they very consistently produce well. The franchise outlet you ate from has brought shame on the family.

To be honest though, it is pretty hard to mess up fried potatoes.

My hot take: not only do I like regular, single stuff Oreos, I actually really enjoy the chocolate wafers. Favorite part of the cookie, honestly.

Mac and cheese bites. They're not bad, but I prefer mozzarella sticks or actual home made mac and cheese. The best mac and cheese bites are from the AMC Theaters. Talk about irony.

I am not a fan of McDonalds. I don't think I have eaten there of my own accord since I was about 14. I was giving a friend a driving lesson and she wanted to get a McDonalds breakfast. I turned the offer down, but she bought me one anyway. I managed to eat the grease muffin, which was not great, but the hash brown...hideous. It was a Saturday morning so I imagine the staff were all hungover teenagers but still...fucking awful, inedibly bad, I don't think their deep fat frier had been cleaned, ever.

I will concede that McDonalds signature burgers are OK and I do like their chocolate milkshakes, if their machines were ever working.

You don't have to be a fan of McDonald's to worship their potato products. Try again at another location; if the hashbrowns taste as bad as the last time, then they're just not for you. Also, you a taste bud deformity.

A&W, Wendy's, and Savy Sliders are so much better burger joints. Krystal's is better than White Castle.

I actually prefer Vietnamese food over Chinese food, 50% of the time.
