I am a strong hater of instant death affects. Although things that damage your "Chance to hit" are the absolute worst. The status ailments in Might and Magic VI are an absolute nightmare. All of them are because they are so hard to cure, especially in the early game.

Blinded/Darkness.

Can't hit anything anymore, buddy! And in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep...It delivers a NASTY interface screw.

STONE! I hate this one. It is really annoying in FFAT and FFAT2. ALso slowing or some thing like that also really annoys me.

It all depends on the context. Generally speaking, in games where they exist, death effects, such as insta-death, doom curses, and when it isn't cured naturally, freeze/paralysis/petrify effects. I also can't stand slow effects, both in 1st/3rd party games and in games where you input commands. I like being able to do things. I would rather shoot a bad guy with 50 arrows in a minute than stand still for a minute charging up a nuclear warhead to kill him. Slow effects just make me cry.

Confusion effects that make you or allied AI attack eachother/themselves like retards. The most annoying example is Pokemon because it means you waste your turn as well as getting damaged. Many a ragequit was had because of confusion on Pokemon when I was 10-14 years old.
This. A thousand times this! Even as a 10 year old when my pokemon got confused I failed to understand how it "hurt itself in its confusion". What the hell? Did he just run into a tree for fun? Even worse though is when your strongest party member get confused and wails on your mage who has a healing spell lined up for the affected character and then dies from the confused one's attack. Then you check your items and you're out of the cure. I have dropped my controller in disgust many times at this. I'm looking at you FF-X. (Shame on me for playing that game, I know)

Stone or Paralysis in any game where it means game over when everyone is paralyzed.

Or maybe Sleep in Pokemon. Sure, it's easy to just cure it in one turn, but I always find myself saying "Goddammit wake up already" and continually choosing an attack instead of taking the easy way out.

I personally hate Paralyze effects. It seems that Paralyze is always different game to game. Some games you'll be paralyzed and completely immobile. Sometimes you can take actions and, should the Paralysis gods see it fit, maybe you will be able to take an action (a la Pokemon).

Paralysis you schizophrenic wench.

Repair effects ... damaged armor and weapons. Would have to be my biggest hate in RPG's.
I also share your pain, especially in Diablo.[/quote]

At least it's easy to fix in Diablo, especially later on. The tougher monsters eventually just drop a ton of gold.

EDIT: At least in Diablo 2, which is what I assumed you were talking about.

Anything that kills me instantly. It always always always has 100% hit rate when used by the enemy and something like 5% hit rate if YOU use it.

I also especially hate anything that disables your commands or prevents you from gaining experience and skill points.

Oh and Confusion. NOT MY LAST ELIXIR YOU DUMBFUCK!

As a lot of other people have said, death effects/instant death. NEVER worked for me, but worked every single time it was used against me.

It'd have to be Poison, at least in Pokemon. You can't tell me that wasn't annoying. Every step. EVERY STEEEP.

So THAT'S why all my AI partners run straight into my line of fire in Modern Warfare....I was wondering about that.

LVL Death; it just happens to always instagib me.

Confusion is always a pain too, having Cloud spin around in circles for his turn and then cleave Yuffie in two is not fun. Plus they use your damn items, I hate that!

Poison, a ***** in a lot of RPG games, but none as annoying as in Pokemon. Any poison move used against you has a chance of success of about 90%, so you decide to turn the tables by getting your own poison type moves... NOPE they never fuckin work, same goes with every other status effect... except for burn when you want to catch something, actually, screw it, worst status effect goes to the entire Pokemon series for every effect in the game

silence and poison.
yes, i play mages and those are really dangerous for mages.
This makes me remember Dragon age where a random fight with a small army of enemies was always decided when either my mage was incapacitated or i did something to the enemies mage. everyone else was just cannon fodder(on their side) or meat shield(on my side)
