This forum gabs about metal about as much as Gamespot, what's the dealio?

It's just another music genre, some gems often buried under a pile of crap. I don't think of it as particularly better or worthy of conversation than any other genre.

It's my favorite type of music, however, I will be the first to admit it has it's fair share of copycats, untalented garbage, and generic bleh.

For those who are interested, some of my favorite bands are: Disarmoia Mundi, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, and Arch Enemy.

I've always been a fan of metal, and will probably always be a fan of metal.

My guess is that many people are both metal-heads and gamers, possibly more than any other genre of music (if not, then it's relatively close). I don't know, there's something about metal that makes people want to speak out about it.

I love it. All of it. Except for emo bands like killswitch who say they're metal. And there is some death metal like napalm death that's just like "hay look how much noise we can make LOOOOOOOL"

I used to enjoy heavy metal quite a lot. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica. I still listen to some metal, but generally its heavy or speed. None of this screeching death metal and such. I prefer to be able to understand the lyrics.

I love the Metal genre and its many sub-genres. I love the guitar, the bass, and especially the drumming in a lot of metal. I usually have the most problem with vocals. I love the music in a lot of Death metal but the moment those screeching or growling or gurgling lyrics kick in I get turned off, hence why most of the death metal songs in my collection are instrumental.

Most of my love for metal comes from classic bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Candlemass, Exodus, Metallica (Anything past Garage Inc. doesn't exist in my world).

Now I just need to get around to learning the guitar so I can get a hands on experience of what the metal genre has to offer.

A lot of people here like it. I like it, too. I like it because I like every single kind of music EVER. I like industrial metal and party metal, as Rob Zombie and Andrew W.K. are my heroes.

metal is an awesome music style
its practically the only style that is both expectable for 20 year olds to listen to
and at the same time dedicated to the actual MUSIC part of music rather then the MTV crap that focuses on the T&A quota

You can't generalise about an entire genre. The lords of all metal are the NWOBHM bands who created the sound after bands like Deep Purple and Think Lizzy started the sounds. Bands with that sound like Saxon, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath are superb. But I join the hatred of death metal, black metal etc. with roaring vocals, nihilistic themes and a structure that's impossible to follow

I do not know what that says about Metal. heh...

I don't think there's something about metal that makes people talk, I think there is "something" about the fans that make them want to talk about it. I too often see Metal fans who literally do not listen to any other form of music and that just boggles my mind.

I also find it hilarious that people are saying "Yeah, I like Metal, but it does have a lot of bland, generic, poser groups" then they go on to list killswitch, linkin park, arch enemy, and disturbed.
Jesus christ, you people are metal fans that don't know very much about metal.

I'm not trying to be insulting or troll, I just found that funny.

Not a massive fan, but I've seen Dir en Grey live twice and thoroughly enjoyed it so if the occassional decent metal band comes along, I'll give it a listen.

I honestly can't stand metal at all. To me, it's often a great example of artists with some actual musical talent who decide instead to make speaker-mud. I have yet to find a metal band that I actually like, and I've gone through all the decades trying to find something that piques my interest. It frankly just bothers me, Disturbed especially.

[sub]Although Disturbed and Halo is a winning combination in my book, not sure why but it's the truth[/sub]

I dislike Metal intensely it all sounds like mindless thrashing and bad lyrics, I can just about stand hard Rock like Motorhead but thats the utter limit. I like my tunes like I like my women, groovy swinging and with a guitar in them. :)

I like Dragonforce a bit for their long guitar riffs, particlularly Through The Fire and The Flames.

Not very keen on other metal, for a variety of reasons:
1. Many are just about Satanic things or whatever (I'm a Christian, so I take offense at that.)
2. The screaming in the songs quickly drives me insane.
3. Many of the singers are drug addicts or abuse some sort of substance (Yes, I know that's profiling, but it's mostly true).

Myself? I'm fond of Christian music and most of its sub-genres, but my absolute favorite would have to be Instrumental Music (that's music without words, in case you're thrown off by big words).

You like your women to be impaled with a guitar?

Black Sabbath brought me to metal, although I don't listen to heavy metal anymore.I like some symphonic metal like Welicoruss and Hollenthon, Death/symphonic death metal such as Amon Amarth or Arsis. Some folk metal songs sound pretty good to me as well.

As much as I love Andrew W.K., I would not call that metal by any stretch of the imagination. But it is fun to rock out and party to his music, I agree.

Really? All of them? Even Enya? C'mon, everybody has a sound that they dislike. What's yours?
