How about a ska thread for a change?
I don't think that would work, not enough people listen to it. I've only heard a few ska bands, myself. Got any recommendations?
Back in the day, man, ska ruled the internet. How times change.
I agree (with the time-changy bit, like I said I don't know much aboot ska). It won't be long before a new musical meme takes over. My bets are down on some form of electronica. Something similar to that crappy Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas.

I like some metal. I prefer instrumental kinds (with Guitar and Drum solos) because in Most Metal I've heard, the vocals are Low-pitched roaring or simply shouting at the microphone, which usually ruins the song for me.
You must hear Dio.

Here he is:

I think it's a bit shit really.

I like Rage Against the Machine but that's about it.
Not metal. At least not to my knowledge.

But still supremely awesome.
iTunes says Rap/Metal. But then again iTunes lists Late of the Pier as 'Pop'. Lol.

But yeah, supremely awesome indeed.

EDIT: Actually iTunes says 'alternative' whatever that means. Someone else must have said it was rap/metal.
Damn all these genres!

I swear there is like a new genre for every band going?

Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Streetligh Manifesto/Catch 22 (they're pretty much the same band), Less Than Jake, The Specials, Madness and Random Hand are all epic.

I like metal bands like KoRn and Slipknot (I know, I know, I should be ashamed and all that), but rock would be my preferred genre.
This has been bugging me. Almost everybody out there who says that they hate these bands at one time or another loved them. I for one was a big KoRn fan when Take a Look in the Mirror was released, and although I don't like them any longer they don't deserve the hate that they're getting. I've never *loved* Slipknot, but I like a few of their songs and say that they too don't deserve the collective hatred toward them.

I could make a metal song by throwing two rabid dogs into a blender and throwing pots and pans on the floor.
I wouldn't call that metal, but I'm certainly interested to hear how that sounds...

Also I HATE metalheads, along with anyone who worships one type of music and slags off all others basically.
I consider myself a metalhead because that's predominantly what I listen to, but I listen to other forms of music as well. Actually, I pride myself on liking at least one song from every genre (for instance, I really dislike Reggae but there's this one really catchy song that I had to have on my mp3 player). I also dislike people who refuse to listen to other genres of music but their favourite because they're missing out on all kinds of great songs out there.

Mostly the classic stuff I love, such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera and Ronnie Dio.

Then there is bands that are alright like Rob Zombie, Disturbed, Marilin Manson, Motorhead, In Flames, Kamelot, etc.

And then there are the bands I can't tolerate at all which is most of these new ones today.

I am of mixed opinions on metal.
Some of it is rather nice, but some other stuff is gunky

I happen to like a lot of the old stuff, but some of the new is a bit...off...for me

Favorite bands include Disturbed and Metallica

Yes, I like metal, in fact, some people may even call me a Metal-Head, but it's not all I listen to. I like a wide genre of music, though metal is favorite type, so long as it isn't screamo.

Edit: Classic Metal, that is. The new stuff is mostly crap in my opinion.

I've only heard of two of them, but Reel Big Fish have some hilarious covers. I love their 'We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful Song' for some reason (or whatever the title is).

I'm a rap fan, I find most Metal to be too much distortion and screaming.

THAT SAID, Alestorm's Wenches and Mead, Less than Jake and the more melodious Guns and Roses songs can take my speakers over any day.

I also share the same disbelieving respect for the Dragonforce guitarist as I do for people like DJ Debris and Usain Bolt

See, my main problem with Metal is that the fans of it hear the word "rap" and think "guns bitches and bling". Dig a little deeper, see that not all rap is like that. Find the decent artists, the decent tracks, don't just see the mainstream and think that that's all there is. I'd be more than happy to exchange tips for decent Rap in return for decent Metal.
