Yes, I'd put a legendary in there, you better be-fucking-lieve it.
No love for Deerling or Sawsbuck? aww... But Deerling is so bloody cute...
What about the spiky brick wall that is Ferrothorn?

Come to think of it, I'm making a Grass gym too. Mostly the uniqe/oddball Grass types:
Breloom
Ferrothorn
Sawsbuck
Cacturne
Torterra
and either Cradilly or Tropius.

My gym would have a light-based puzzle, but not using mirrored beams... more like jumping up and down levels to move things out of the way and shine light down to the bottom tier.

And it would be a double battle, maybe even a triple.

You enter the gym and there's a huge waterway with trainers on both sides. Every step you take results in a double battle, but every trainer uses nothing but 6 level 100 Magikarps that know nothing but splash. There's a total of 25 trainers on each side and once you enter the gym the door locks behind you. The only way to leave is to win and get the key. Also, the gym leader fights with a mewtwo. A level 100 mewtwo.

It'll be tough but the whole ordeal will be worth it once you get that first badge.

you have to put like a nurse joy or something just before the gym leader or people will stop buying pokemon games
What do I look like a charity? They can make due with potions. These kids today want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Back in my day we had to walk 25 miles in the snow just to heal a single Pokemon 1 HP.

no my point wasn't the health because if you bring in grass types that heal themselves you'll make it through ok...i'm getting off topic i think... but you need the nurse there for the trainers PP

double, triples can be easily won

and i'd go with Cradilly for those pesky flying types not to mention the fire types AND the ice types (if any were used)

They can make due using struggle or taking ethers. It won't be easy, but it can be done.

If you die and pass out, don't you just start at the most recent Pokecenter anyway? I think that nullifies your whole idea on locking the trainer in until they win.

Seeing as you only put up a team of 5, I think it wouldn't hurt to add the the crocodile. Besides, you have a fighting heavy team and it wouldn't hurt to have it because Psychics won't be able to harm it. Besides, it is also a ground type. Granted Tympole will become part ground type when it evolves, but it is a good strategy to have a good ground type for the fourth gym leader's Zebstrika.

I really want to evolve my Pansage now, but it learns crunch at 43 as it's last learned move, and I love crunch.

Right now all of my team is at level 33 and I am getting close to where I can challenge the sixth gym. At the rate my team is leveling, they will be a little higher in level compared to what the sixth gym leader will be using, and when it comes to the seventh I will probably be at least 5 levels higher than anything that that person will have.

actually the last two gyms you can beat easily with under leveled pokemon you just have to be somewhat smart about your order

The sad thing is that you are pretty much right. I've noticed when playing White that like every 500 steps there is a place to heal. Example, the doctor and the nurse trainers that become a heal point after you fight them, along with the random house on just about every route that has a healer.

It could come to the point that in the next version after every battle with a trainer the trainer will heal the player's team.

My gym would be at the end of a sprawling cave filled with Geodude, Zubat, and a bat-shit crazy pokemon smuggling ring that use primarily the Poison typing.

And right before you enter my lair, who would appear to challenge you, but GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK!!!

And after you actually get INTO my lair, you'll need to navigate an aggravating invisible maze, use a bomb to blow a hole in the far wall, then sneak passed the guards without causing them to go into Alert mode. Then, it's just a hop, skip and a jump across a busy highway and the log-filled stream beyond.

Assuming you do all that:

Magikarp
Magikarp
Magikarp
Magikarp
Magikarp
Missingno.glitchfuuucjvjpbkskSHUTDOWN

Restart the game.

They all use explosion.

As a serious answer?

Fire-type. Once you enter the gym, you're team begins to take damage from the heat. The gym is a maze. As you get closer to the center, it becomes warmer, causing more damage. Also as you travel through the gym, the area becomes clouded in smoke. You have to reach a ladder in the center in the most efficient route possible which takes you to a higher level to fight the gym leader.

The party consists of a vulpix and a growlith. They're both under leveled. The real challenge is finding the way up to the gym leader.

Potions aren't allowed in the gym.

I know that is a possibility, because my team for the first five gyms have usually been 2 to 3 levels lower than the gym leader's team. But, after the fifth gym my team gained 4 levels in the cave before the sixth gym, though now that they are level 33, I still have to go through route 7 to follow the sixth gym leader to the Celestial tower. I guarantee that my team will gain at least 2 to 3 more levels before I get done with that and get back to the gym for the battle, and the sixth gym leaders highest level team member is level 35. Though I will sweep the gym because of my Zebstrika.

My Gym would be complete darkness, except for a neon path that leads up to me, there would be no other trainer to bother the player either, you literary walk in then up to me, and the battle with me is a double battle.
My speciality is Dual type Flying pokemon with high speed and (Special) attack, but low defense.
Charizard (earthquake, sunny day, fireblast, airslash)
Charizard (shiney) (earthquake, solar beam, heat wave, focus blast)
Dragonnite (earthquake, Fireblast, thunder, Blizzard)
Gyrados (auqa tail, bite, icefang, earthquake)
Aerodactlye (Earthquake, stoneedge, Crunch, hyperbeam)

An empty room with me in a snipers nest ready to shoot anyone who comes through the door, wouldn't need a team since you can't really send out pokemon when you're lying in a pool of your own blood.

My gym would be a total chance game. Every trainer within the gym has a different typed team. One ghost trained, one fire, one water, etc.

As for my team, it would be randomly chosen every time I'm challenged so the challenger has to have a well rounded team every time they battle to be prepared for whatever I happen to get. As for what pokemon would be within those teams... well...
