. I don't care that remastering is a thing, but when studios decide to do that in lieu of making something new because name recognition will is guaranteed $$$, meh. Basically, we've played these games already; putting lipstick on a pig I've already kissed, and charging a new $60 is lazy. I want Elder Scrolls 6. I want GA VI. I don't want TES 5 or GTA V "again" no matter how you've dressed it up.
I've been telling people this since day one, but more than a few self-proclaimed hardcore gamers wouldn't listen. Nor the casual or super casual. I swear the people not plugged in, are arguably worse about it at times.
I think FROM did it well. The Dark Souls Remastered was both a response to renewed interest in the game AND did not impede development of Sekiro or Elden Ring, a new IP that arguably changed the gaming landscape; DLC was not far behind, then Nightreign was hot on those heels. They didn't wait a DECADE or more to offer us something else and new.
That's more or less what Koei-Tecmo is doing with
Ninja Gaiden.
Ninja Gaiden II: Black was done in-house by KT themselves. Remaking the entire game in UE5. The game is based of the
Sigma 2 port, but adds back in the gore, makes the combat and enemy encounters more like the 360 original (but without the insane and absurd difficulty spikes nor glitches), and added QoL features. The reason KT can't even get the 360 version anymore, is because they lost the source code, and don't want to bother even reverse engineering the damn thing. I can't blame them.
No, I don't mind that shit gets remastered, but if you tell me I'm getting a remaster and nothing NEW for 10 or more Christmases, I'd prefer you focus on the new shit.
This is why I love Capcom and Sega. Capcom especially. Their Remakes are familiar, but different enough when it comes to
Resident Evil. Yet at the same time, they're not afraid to try new titles or bring back old franchises that have not been around since the late 2000s. They're back to how they used to operate (and many other devs and pubs) during the pre-HD era.
But, shit, maybe GOG'll come through for me someday. Hope springs eternal, right?
If they get the PC versions of the
Resident Evil PSX Trilogy on GoG, then it's possible, but very slim, those talented men and women get the
SH Trilogy running. Either that, or use an emulator at this point.
