Silent Hill 2 still begs to differ on that one though.
PS2 and OG Xbox copies still exists, but they're just as expensive as fuck (especially the PS2 OG for some reason) and overpriced on the secondhand market. Even though neither of these originals sold poorly, aside from SH4.

I know we live in entirely different regions, but find any secondhand gaming store that is not the Gamestop, and see if they so refurbished consoles. PS2 consoles are still pretty cheap; especially the slim model. It's either that or just go through Amazon. Do so at your own pace, of course.

My refurbished PS2 from 2011 i got from Gamestop still works. I always make sure to clean it, and whenever i'm not using it, I put it back in its original box and and wrap it with bubble, wrap or ziplock bags.

I think the general ire over remakes comes from the fact that you have these huge studios spinning their tires on nostalgia and cash grabs over making NEW stuff. I know that's at least my specific issue. Skyrim was "remastered" a whole 5 years after the original came out. GTA V released on three console generations before credible and tangible news of GTA VI came out. People like me just wish more time was spent developing NEW shit in a now long-running era of rehashing and remastering. I don't care that remastering is a thing, but when studios decide to do that in lieu of making something new because name recognition will is guaranteed $$$, meh. Basically, we've played these games already; putting lipstick on a pig I've already kissed, and charging a new $60 is lazy. I want Elder Scrolls 6. I want GA VI. I don't want TES 5 or GTA V "again" no matter how you've dressed it up.

I think FROM did it well. The Dark Souls Remastered was both a response to renewed interest in the game AND did not impede development of Sekiro or Elden Ring, a new IP that arguably changed the gaming landscape; DLC was not far behind, then Nightreign was hot on those heels. They didn't wait a DECADE or more to offer us something else and new.

No, I don't mind that shit gets remastered, but if you tell me I'm getting a remaster and nothing NEW for 10 or more Christmases, I'd prefer you focus on the new shit.

If the problem you have with remakes is that you want people to play the originals, but there's nowhere your friends can buy them so they're stuck with the "inferior copy", then your issue is not with remakes or remake culture, but with game publishers refusing to buy into game preservation. I'd love to play the original Silent Hill 2 as well and compare notes, but the reason I can't is because Konami didn't do a good enough job maintaining the original source code to the point where the HD remaster had to be redone from scratch, not that they released the remake of it 12 years after the HD remaster flopped because it was badly done without the original source code.

And I'm not spending $300 on a box of packing peanuts just for a random chance I'd get to play SH2 via Ebay, either. I should not have to, because Konami should've done a better job keeping the original game available for later re-releases. But, shit, maybe GOG'll come through for me someday. Hope springs eternal, right?

I've been telling people this since day one, but more than a few self-proclaimed hardcore gamers wouldn't listen. Nor the casual or super casual. I swear the people not plugged in, are arguably worse about it at times.

That's more or less what Koei-Tecmo is doing with Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden II: Black was done in-house by KT themselves. Remaking the entire game in UE5. The game is based of the Sigma 2 port, but adds back in the gore, makes the combat and enemy encounters more like the 360 original (but without the insane and absurd difficulty spikes nor glitches), and added QoL features. The reason KT can't even get the 360 version anymore, is because they lost the source code, and don't want to bother even reverse engineering the damn thing. I can't blame them.

No, I don't mind that shit gets remastered, but if you tell me I'm getting a remaster and nothing NEW for 10 or more Christmases, I'd prefer you focus on the new shit.
This is why I love Capcom and Sega. Capcom especially. Their Remakes are familiar, but different enough when it comes to Resident Evil. Yet at the same time, they're not afraid to try new titles or bring back old franchises that have not been around since the late 2000s. They're back to how they used to operate (and many other devs and pubs) during the pre-HD era.

But, shit, maybe GOG'll come through for me someday. Hope springs eternal, right?
If they get the PC versions of the Resident Evil PSX Trilogy on GoG, then it's possible, but very slim, those talented men and women get the SH Trilogy running. Either that, or use an emulator at this point.

Nothing gets people excited about classic gaming like dealing with the weird design quarks of yesteryear.

I don't get remakes either, I've played that game already, I want something new and different or at least a sequel. Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game series and I couldn't care less about the remake to MGS3, I played it... Unless you're doing something like revamping the gameplay systems like say RE2 Remake, then I really don't get it. Same thing with movies. I mentioned to a friend how I couldn't care less about the new How To Train Your Dragon live action remake because I love the movie and own it on blu-ray; if I wanna watch it, I'll watch the blu-ray. My friend was like they did some scene slightly better and she liked how it was done. I just have no interest in seeing essentially the same thing but with the slightest of changes. Take movies with good premises but bad executions and remake those.

Congratulations, there are plenty out there that ain't remakes coming out now or later:

  • Lost Soul Aside
  • Resident Evil 9
  • Path of the Goddess
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword
  • Ghost of Yotei
  • Double Dragon Revive
  • Ninja Gaiden 4
  • Ninja Gaiden Ragebound
  • Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
  • Cronos: The New Dawn.
  • Black Ops 7
  • Pragmata
  • Silent Hill f
  • Dead as Disco
And many more. The indie scene more so. This year alone, and last year, has given us tons of games that aren't remakes. So you really have no right to complain or be upset. So how about you stop wasting time on the remakes, regardless of quality, and focus on the original games or sequels you are interested in, and move on. If there's a remake on not interested in playing, then I just say it once and get on with my life. I don't cry about it 24/7.

I know that Sonic Adventure 2 was sponsored by Soap Shoes, but overall I think that introducing rail grinding as a mechanic to the series was a net negative and shouldn't have happened.

Oh wow, I didn't know that, I always thought it was just a Sonic thing. That seems like an incredibly dangerous thing to do in real life!

I didn't say there weren't games other than remakes, I said that I don't get remakes (unless it's a complete rework of the game). I haven't played a video game in about 3 years now, they are so same-y. Whereas just on Wednesday night alone, I played 3 new games.

Guessing it can go one of three ways. The BotW way , the Arkham Knight way, or the Ubisoft way.

Or it could just be a short interstitial kind of prologue of levels, to break up the mood and gameplay a bit, and they chose to show it in the Direct because it's new.

The open-world backlash is so strong now that folks are losing their mind over a motorcycle lol.

Granted I have no skin in the game as I don't play fps type games but that trailer looked dope t me, but what do I know

I don't know why I feel the need to post this, but here goes.

Broken Sword 4 is not a good broken sword game and is a mediocre adventure game. I like the Broken Sword Series(it's okay if nobody here is aware of those anymore but apparently they're still getting made) and I remember not liking BS4 AKA Secrets of the Ark AKA Angel of Death when I played it like 15 years ago. For some damn reason I wondered if maybe I misjudged it so I ended up watching a LP video because I've got too many other game projects on my plate to start BS4 again.

Turns out my opinion hasn't changed. It's still the worst Broken Sword game, mostly due to the writing being so meh. Like the concept is pretty good but the execution is just really meh. In contrast, Broken Sword 5 is much better done.

If you want some idea of what the game is about, just imagine if Dan Brown wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark but somehow it's even less interesting and you'll see the problem. I could complain about why the plot sucks(which is hypothetically the only reason to play the game) but honestly I doubt anyone really cares so I won't waste anyone's time going on about it.

I'm sorry to the one guy on this forum I might have possibly annoyed with this hottest of the hot takes.

There's a lot of wisdom a game like Slime Rancher can teach. Perhaps the most wisdee being: why make samey jobs a boring 'stand n press putton' chore when shooting jobs from gun way better? See those dishes? No, don't write that suicide note just yet...here take this dishwashing gun and empty a whole magazine of soapy water bombs upon those filthy kunts! Baby needs changing? No wuzzas solemn procreator, this baby changer gun'll do the trick so you got the time to properly seek therapy for the postpartum depression! Unimpressed by your first therapist? Say no more...the 'therapist replacement KV2000 with 1280 x 1024 5th generation thermal scope' should suit your needs quite well indeed! (Sometimes they try to run, you see)

why make job chore when gun make job fun?

Perhaps I'm a little radicalised by this cos am now looking at every single fetch quest with a Paddington bear disapproving frown judging with extreme prejudice the glaring absence of a fetch gun

After 6 years of development and an additional 9 years of updates No Man's Sky is still not, and will never be, a good game. The problem is that all the ambition in the world won't make you a good game designer, and the NMS team has absolutely no talent in designing a cohesive game experience. There's no depth or challenge to anything in the game. The worlds are prettier and more varied but there is still no reason to stay on them longer than 5 minutes. You can build bases and ships and do a million fetch quest missions, but none of it is fun and it barely benefits you in any way. If the game were designed in a way that space was treacherous and you needed to amass technology and resources in order to explore further into it that would be something to work for, but the design of NMS is that everything you need is strewn everywhere on every planet and the only barrier to progression is to walk for a couple minutes and hold down a button on some rocks.

No Man's Sky is a thousand pretty-looking, shallow puddles barely connected to each other.
