I'm glad to hear it. The Legend of Zelda is one of those exploration games where the lack of spoken dialogue just adds to it.

For the same reason I'm against Other M having long cutscenes. To me, Metroid was one of those games where you experienced the world yourself while playing. Adding too much voice acting and cutscenes takes this from you as there's no a character standing between you and the game world.

Should Link speak?

*ahem*

HELL...NO! I pissed enough they're retconing him to be right handed, but if they cave and listen to the people who think Link should talk, I will kill something. Besides, if Link speaks, then it will be akin to (I cannot believe I am saying this actually exists) the Zelda TV series, and we all know what a piece of crap that was.

*hits self in head with hammer*

Oh, yeah. The TV series doesn't exist. It was all a bad dream.
Link is only right-handed because of the Wii controller scheme. Don't forget that Twilight Princess on Gamecube was the proper version (with Left Handed Link) since it was ported to Wii as almost an afterthought.

If there's no motion controls for Nintendo's console after Wii and it's back to normal controls, Link will definitely be Left Handed again.
I know that. I'm still bugging them to include a left handed control scheme. They did one for Wii Sport and Wii Sports Resort, so they have no excuse to back out of doing one for Zelda.

I'm also pushing for a classic controller option, but i don't see that happening.
That's how I feel about, well, damn near every Wii game... games I think are really neat and could be better without motion controls. Classic Controllers please... or Gamecube, either one. Defeats the purpose of the console's gimmick but... it's not a gimmick for everything.

Im actually ok with that...I dont think Link would suit it too well...we all just like to hear his grunts, and, when he slashes with his sword...its almost because, no, ispart of his character

You may call me out on contradicting myself here, but these are my thoughts on the whole matter:

Using the CD-i Zelda games (and the cartoon show) as an example for these games to not have voice acting is just ignorant thinking. It would be redundant to say that voice acting in games have gotten better since the Unholy Trinity.

But don't take this as me saying the franchise desperately needs to get with the times and have voice acting. The basic formula of these games has remained the same since it's conception; and a lack of VO is part of that. For the most part, The Legend of Zelda is a role-playing game, and you are the green tunic-wearing protagonist. It would remove you from the experience if you were to hear someone else talking for Link.

Plus, I would be willing to bet that Nintendo doesn't want to risk spending money on an actor, especially if the fan reaction may end up being negative.

"Personally, I don't want to have Link speak in the game," said Aonuma in Nintendo Power. "We haven't had him talk at all up to this point. It's part of the series history. It would just, to me, break the image of Link to have him speak."
Read: "THE CD-I GAMES NEVER HAPPENED!"

I agree with him. Every time Link has talked, things ended bad, and his talking was kinda involved. Besides, these games are great without Link talking, and the story doesn't require him to talk. Why should he? As much as I like developers taking risks, this is what I call an "unnecessary risk". Could it work out? Sure! But what do you gain from it? Little to nothing!

Talking or not, he'd better be able to jump under his own damn power at some point. It's retarded that he's never been able to jump on command without the damn Roc's Cape. Seriously, how hard is it to make that possible?

Link and anyone in a Zelda game should never talk!(the normal noises they use already are acceptable) Why you ask? Well it would kill the narrative due to bad voice acting to start with, add the size of the data, lip sync cutscenes for every region, the list goes on and we get Final Fantasy XIII with a Master Sword. What makes Nintendo games so good is the lake of voices and concerntration on fun. Remember that a game can be just as good with poorer graphics, no voice acting and a great story and Nintendo is one of the few companys that still makes good games for it's consoles, it's the 3rd party developers that pump out the crap for the most part on the consoles.

While I would normally say they are just using nostalgia to not have to bother writing decent dialogue I must remember the last time Link was voiced. It was an abomination as I recall.

The TV show was horrible, the CD-I games were horrible, but I'll give him one more chance. You can't screw up voice acting more then 3 times right? Oh wait, Resident Evil did... How bad can it be though, seriously I'm open to some change.

Link definitely shouldn't talk, in fact, he shouldn't exist anymore. Time to move on. *paints flame target on chest*

That's good, I never felt like link should talk anyways. Still wouldn't mind having the other characters in the games start having some voices.

Not going to press the issue though. I love voice acting when it's done right but it really is just fluff.

Here's hoping Link stays silent and next console generation is motion control free.

Link and Gordon Freeman frequently come up as fan favourite characters. That should say something to people who think that they would be improved if they talk more.

I like Link how he is. Not talking. I mean he does say things...kind of, but that's about all I want. It just wouldn't make sense to me if he did.

Actually, it's a lot more work to port a full fledged game to left hand mode. That's why Twilight Princess was flipped. They'd probably have to flip all the animations and comb over the whole world looking for places where switching to your left hand might make the model collide into something etc.

Back on topic, Link's silence is definitely an integral part of his character. I like that he never talks but plays a lot of music. Just seems right.

Someone should make a Link model for Alpha Protocol or some WRPG. That would be awesome(ly stupid).

You know in all honesty I kinda want Link to talk if only just once, just to mix things up a little.

Link has Spoken, besides from the "hyaahs" i remember instances in Twilight Princess were he said off screen his name to people. I leaning to not have voice acting but i would like to see some moments were Link has his own dialogue box.
