ohh my GOD!
all of you people just shut up already.
it was a review. it was funny. you dont need to criticise every single last little detail about it just because you dont agree. i am a fan of smash brothers, very much so, but he probably made the review like he did just to piss off people like all of you who're slating him for it!
give the guy a break!

But then...by your own argument, wouldn't that mean Yahtzee expects us to be debating him, and it would be odd if we didn't? At the end of his review, he even wrote that he's a "glutton for punishment."

And...

.
I don't agree with that. SSBB is certainly LIKED by fanboys, sure, but not MEANT for them. I mean, that sentiment makes it seem that anything liked by fanboys can only be liked by fanboys. There's plenty of people out there who enjoy the game for what it is and nothing more.

ZP is a god, this review was awesome.

Everyone knows the flaws of this game even those who play it, who cares if he focused on the problems, ZPs reviews aren't ever neutral he clearly has a preference of game type and style bless him for being the only reviewer to have a biased reviewing style and be this successful.

Everyone who reads ZP will eventually see him review a game that they love and they will get angry (lol). The number of flamed replies this is getting only shows how popular this game is, so congrats SSBB and im looking forward to next weeks review!

Hi Yahtzee, i usually like your reviews, and can usually relate to them to some extent, although this was no exception, as i could relate to my friends being "that guy" and myself not doing too well at the game, i dont own a wii, i have never owned a nintendo until i bought a DS, but i still see this as a good game. I cant help but think that the reason you dont particularly like this game is because of the severe beating you received at Yugs house after supanova in brisbane. as almost everyone should know now, you didnt only verse your friends there but other fellow game reviewers and the like. this review seems to highlight the fact that you were repeatedly beaten, and resembles the whining nature of someone who is just shit. "wha wha wha, i dont like this game, lets play another" cry some more...
for someone out to argue Yahtzee's opinions, you do support his attitude towards brawl fans... perfectly

Oh, and as far as people who "got offended by it being fucking idiots," well that was probably because he pretty much came right out and said "this game is stupid, and if you like it you are stupid." Actually, I think his exact wording was "jibbering fanboy twats," or something close to it. So, yes, I was mildly offended... because he was directly insulting me. That's kind of the textbook definition of being offended. Negative reviews are fine, but when you start directly stating that a person is stupid for their tastes in games (something that members of gaming culture are notoriously bad about) that's when you've crossed the line.
'Gibbering fanboy twats' = those legions of SSBB fans, who, when insulted, will generate almost 800 posts, hundreds more than when Yahtzee offends any other fanbase

yes, i think gibbering suits nicely, 'twats' perhaps to far
Well half of the posters here are people saying how much SSBB/Nintendo Sucks.
i though that was a given in any fan/hater 'debate'

also, i think great indicator of how far a thread has degenerated is the fact that now people are calling themselves fanboys and giving it no second thought... That said, watching the same 30 posts replay over and over again, with me filling one of the the 'pointlessly attempting to sound rational' slot in this particular cycle, is... fun.
That's True.

Well being a Fanboy isn't bad as long as they aren't annoying(which sadly they mostly are). I used to be a Nintendo Fanboy, but that was before there were as many options as there are now. Thankfully I wasn't too bad not like some of the people I see on a daily basis. Why can't we all just love all the systems. Wait, that's both expensive and sane.

Not internet speak. It just requires having visited any other part of this website.

No, he definitely had some justifying statements in the review; "maybe I'm approaching this the wrong way, maybe...etc." Granted, that led to his rant about Sonic, but that's what he does. There is some truth to the maturity statement, but not in the way it was read by most people I imagine. If Xbox targets the "beer-drinking frat boy demographic," then the players are too busy attempting to make themselves look manly in the face of their friends (and a good way to do that is to engage in a bloody shootout) than reading online forums about their favorite video games, which, frankly, decreases the manly/cool/whatever reputation significantly. Most of the Halo friends I have fall into the above category (nothing wrong with that, so don't hurt me), whereas most of the SSB friends I have aren't too heavy into the drinking and such, and can sit around arguing in nerdy forums like this one without hurting their reputation too much, if at all. I hope, for my sake.
Halo fanboys are game-jocks, SSBB fanboys are game-nerds. Both are pretty immature, but I'd have to go with jocks as more annoying, and nerds as more defensive.

Heh. I'd agree with that.

How long do you think this topic'd be with all the Nintard bile removed?
The average "I love you Yahtzee. I want your children"... so, about 6 pages.

Edit:

Nope. If you only come to The Escapist for Yahtzee, then you really don't need to know what this means.

Oh, and ElArab, this is quite fun. The RP is kinda slow too...

835 posts. That's gotta be a record for this forum or something. I guess this proves it, Nintendo fanboys are easier to bait than Xbox fanboys. Or maybe it's just that Yahtzee has been around for a bit longer now.

i would say both are equally easy to bait, but SSBB fans are more involved in actual defense, whereas the average Halo fanboy argues like he plays the game, short bursts, in pairs and for the sheer thrill of the experience, rather than the end result.

i say that with admiration, if there's one thing you can say about the Halo crowd, its that they do live in the moment.

Lzdarkangel, I must honestly ask you what the hell you just said and also inquire as to if you've passed out due to lack of air, on account of there being no viewable full stops, commas or other gramatical symbols.
Ah, but I'll leave that for now.

What is really troubling me about this thread is that it's full of stupid people, who've actually taken Yahtzee's bait.
You've been lured in, 50% of the people commenting ablout this video has been purposly lured in by a comedic video.

"OMG lik teh wii rulz! yathzee blohz donkie dic lol!"

Seriously, Yahtzee has not created a universal proclamation carved into the fabric of time, he created comedy and has used you fanatic Wii lovers to improve the punchline.

my biggest problem with yahtzee's review was it seemed so forced, like he really didn't want to do it and honestly i don't think he should've been asked to, anyone who's seen even one ZP review could probably guess his opinion on this game and forcing him to review it is like making a republican watch brokeback mountain, sparks will fly and someone's head will inevitably explode.

the thing is smashbros is indeed intended for nintendo fans, and since... what maybe 10% (if i'm being generous) of the escapist readers actually tolerate nintendo much less like them. i think this was a fairly predictable outcome

but hey now i'm rooting for this thread maybe if we really turn up the flames we could make this the longest thread ever on the escapist.
Maybe it was just some smart marketing dude that said "ZP is going to be about smash bros so we can get enorm add revenues out of the thousands forum thread hits ^^"
