I knew you hated badly used quick time events, but you must have really had enough of them if it made you make a direct statement to the world. I actually played only 4 games with quick time events: RE4, in which I instantly died; Spider-Man 2 PC - also died; TR: Anniversary - found it kinda fun, Fahrenheit - also found it amusing for a breif period of time. Basically, they can be fun, but like you said, if used better.

I kinda expected seeing this game, seeing as to how every review I saw said "finally, a reason to buy the PS3". Your review was ok, other than the shock of breaking the forth wall, I'll probably only remember it after the "being hit from 900 yards (of course)" joke. Maybe the fact that the game had nothing specifically to rant about (other than it brought nothing new) made the review less interesting. At least I'm thankful this wasn't another FPS review, I'm really sick of those.

Wow I must say that this must be the best he has done yet. Good job Yahtzee my boi. And no, portal is NOT perfect. Get over it.

He may have the deliciously fresh-faced appearance of a 20-something Aussie, but in his heart, he posesses all the malign, cantankerous hatred of a gin-addled, 74-year-old mother in law.
once again he's British, not Aussie. i also don't see how anyone can think he's old. he sounds like a twenty-something to me and this isn't the first time he's shown his face.

the video served his point well, players don't expect quick time events just like we didn't expect to see him explain it on cam. i wish he had used some action script or something so we'd have to actually press 'x' to prevent him from getting hit. and if we missed hitting 'x' in time, then he could reprimand us for our slowness. that would have been entertaining.

Yes, I agree, ZP is very entertaining, but for **** sake, calm down already!

Yes, it's funny, but nothing you should be laughing hard about, in fact, I seriously doubt that there is ANYTHING funny enough to warrant a person to laugh hard (Sure, a snicker or stiffle, maybe even a chuckle, but not laughing hard).
While in principle I agree with you, I must beg to differ. The Halo 3 review had tears streaming down my face, while I vibrated with the silent laughter I had to suppress, due to the fact that I was in class at the time. I just watched it again to be sure it was the one I was thinking of - and lo, same tears, same shaking. There is no accounting for what someone finds funny, nor how funny they find it; e.g. for me, this review, not so much, but each to their own.

No, the best review is probably one of the following: Halo 3, Crysis, the Orange Box, and Guitar Hero 3. Hard to say which.
And no game is perfect, but Portal is probably as close as you can get these days, so it's justified to call it perfect for now.

I really have to thank Yahtzee. For the longest time I've often noted games with obvious rascism and people (mainly Americans) have shouted at me back for looking 'too deeply' into games.

He obviously shows I'm not alone.

I thought he said portal was -_-
I seem to remember him saying Columbo was, although with those two episodes that deviated from the standard Columbo formula (the "photo jigsaw puzzle" one and the "some cop's fiancee has been kidnapped" one) maybe not.

What's the reverse of jumping the shark? Where a show or other medium hits the sweet spot?
The TV Tropes and Idioms Wiki suggests "Growing the Beard", after when Commander Riker grew his distinctive beard on Star Trek:: The Next Generation. Although growing the beard usually implies that a show was poorly received to begin with, so we can't really apply it to Yahtzee.

Also, was anyone else reminded of Daniel Vettori when they saw Yahtzee? Or maybe I'm just too big a cricket nut.

Anyway,

I had imagined yahtzee as older and more... hatted.
wasnt a good call to show himself speaking directly without his hat, either way, he looked different than I wouldve thought

Wow this is red letter day, Yahtzee shows his face and he reviews a PS3 game. Having played the game myself though I think his review, however entertaining, was pretty weak. Everything he said is right but not very important, there are other better criticisms that could have been said, like how the puzzles were too easy or sometimes fight scenes were too long. Also the older white dude never dies or turns evil.

But hey this is an action adventure RPG, and Yahtzee doesn't like most of those games. If you watch the Mass Effect review he'll say dialogue should be "succinct and punchy," but then he criticizes the punchyness of Uncharted's dialogue. It's a no win situation.

I can;t wait till you review RE5 and trounce it for a lily white guy shooting up the black home world....er...continent.

still review is 3.5 out of 5.0 .

good review, though i didnt laugh once, thats prolly more to do with the fact that ive never even heard of this game (im a PC gamer and not really into 'action or FPS' games) odd i know given yahtzees ...... well for lack of a better term, bias, for these kinds of games. thats actualy a good thing before anyone gets their balls in a vice, he keeps me entertained despite my lack of interest in most of his subject matter.

i did enjoy the popout to 'real life', it was interesting to see him actualy recording a part of the review. but i will say though for me atleast the thing that makes me laugh most about his reviews is his animations. he can put more expression and make more 'points' with a few simple changes to these avitars than most people can do with million doller CGI budgets. its just funny the change of expression that can come from simply changing the eyes (or other parts) and really can slam home the point hes trying to make.

all in all i cant say anything too bad about this review, it was kinda cool seeing yahtzee in the process so to speak but not having any clue what the game is or is supposed to be about left me with missing most of his points im sure.

is this game actualy known enough that it warrents a review? im not being sarcastic im asking seriously. being part of the master PC gaming race i seldom take notice of consol garbage so im just curious about this game being selected. is it a 'popular' or 'looked for' consol title? not that it matters, Yahtzee's draw is HIS opinions about pretty much anything, id watch a review about his morning crap just too see if he could find anything funny about it (as long as he didnt feel the need to pop out and show 'real life' video of it). im just asking because this review seems to re-enforce my low opinion about consol gamers if this is the only kind of crap they get to choose from its no wonder they are spit uppon by my fellow PC gamers. well that plus the fact that they spend almost as much on a friggen consol as a decient bottom end PC and they cant even look at porn on it.

Be thankful you've never had it for FPSs the console market has ruined them, altho I have not seen many greatly designed RPGs that don't have the streamlined stupidity of the console mindset...at least RTSs are safe....kinda.....I guess not seen a few low end RTS's in the last a couple of years.

What I am getting at is that the console mentally has permeated the game industry, I am a RPG and FPS fan,I also like action games and a die hard PC gamer No thrilled with any game I have played in the last 2 years, BS is BS,Crysis is meek,Witcher is clunky and the menu/control system unfinished, HL2:OB is ok even if I didn't loath steam,Oblivoin meh raped and streamlined for console noobs,2 worlds meh,ect,ect,ect... so I dunno the game industry makes action movies some with better dailouge than others but action flicks non the less...

Lmao great review as always.

One thing with the racism though. Just because there are a lot of people of colour doesn't mean its a racist game. I'm pretty sure If you'd had travelled to a tropical native island the dominant ethnicity would be African. You shouldn't make a game with a perfect balance of every ethnicity anyway, it wouldn't be realistic. Unless of course their is a good balance, like if it had taken place in Canada or something. Can't wait for resident evil 5 though, I've never seen a black zombie before Lol
