Not just that, but way to put more guns in our schools GOP! Now the shooter doesn't need to buy 1000 rounds and three guns, because he knows Mrs. Fitzroy from homeroom is packing and he can just shoot her first and take her gun.
Doesn't have to, someone or later some teacher is going to leave their gun unattended and some kid is going to pick it up without any forethought. Doesn't even have to be murder, kids and unattended guns lead to accidents all the time.
Imagine needing an armory supervisor at elementary schools. Imagine a gun cabinet in the gym shower rooms when the gym coaches take showers. Imagine a late/hungover teacher leaving her gun in her car, and the car is accidently unlocked.
I was going to say something like "What kind of teacher would want the responsibility of killing their students?" but then it occurred to me that there are people who'd want that.
Christ, that's something I never thought about. Parent/teacher conference night, after Coach Paul explains how they're doing flag football, and the lunch ladies assure parents vegan options will be available, back to homeroom with Mrs. Fitzroy for her to show off her Beretta m9 with expanded clip capacity and hollowpoint bullets and how she's fully trained and ready to kill any of her students at a moment's notice if they're an active shooter.
Yeah, I didn't know how to take that. I mean, you want to believe it's a benevolent gesture, but at the same time, you're asking parents if they want a custom coffin for their children... Just doesn't sit right with me. I think covering the costs of normal caskets would have been less, I dunno, grating? I don't think a customized coffin does anything to affect the fact of the loss. I'm sure his intentions are good, but how do you ask a parent who lost a child only a couple of weeks ago how they want their child's forever box tricked out? But I'm in no position to do either gesture, so I guess I'm okay with it in the end; just sad such a gesture might ever be necessary. He's doing SOMETHING while the rest of us aren't, least of all our government.
Personally I can't imagine the emotional tole it takes to build 19 child caskets, let alone the funeral directors who prep the body. And we know from the reports, grizzly as it is we can't shy away from it, most of these bodies are not intact. They needed DNA to identify the bodies. And the shooter shot most of the kids in the head at close range with a high powered rifle. These are closed casket funerals.

Agreed. It takes a strong will to involve oneself in such a thankless task as commemorating a child taken through such senseless violence. Like I said, he's doing something; most of us aren't. God willing this is a trade we won't need going forward, but reality suggests there's going to be a need going forward.

You already got it in your first part, I expect them to do nothing. They have no desire to do anything so they're not going to do anything. They're going to talk about how much they need to do something and then do nothing.
That is fair, once in a while The Democrats do their other thing; toss a few crumbs our way so that people can pretend like Democrats are a beacon of hope and goodness instead of just Diet Republicans.
Diet Republicans is unfair. They're slow lane republicans. Doing the exact same shit a couple of decades later. Always staying just behind republicans to achieve the same goals.
