So I just saw this little gem, and for a moment I thought I somehow missed an entire Vanillaware game.

Turns out it's an indie game that came out a while back and finally got ported to ps4. It legit captures that Odin Sphere/Dragon's Crown essence and the art style itself looks gorgeous. Will jump all over that once I'm done with pathfinder.
Haven't played it, but there's lamp chronicale too that's obviously inspired by vanillaware.

Not quite the same, but valdis story is also close

Sounds like the sort of thing where you don't let evils around you stop you from being true to your desires and expressing yourself. Overcoming adversity instead of being permanently damaged by it is the mark of a lot of heroic tales so you can definitely have that work well. A girl in a bikini has nothing in relation to rape, or genocide, and both of those are gonna be part of any sorta dark fantasy tale to one degree or another so it doesn't make sense to have noting beautiful or appealing in such tales and have them just be dark or dreary all the time. That's the cool thing about videogames; you can be freed from how such things can affect people in reality and experience a magical alternative. Not everything need be Shindler's List and make you feel like shit.
Except when you have dialog scenes you have a big image of her in a bikini while having these dark plot points. Its distracting and messes with the tone unless you are weird.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, it doesn't need to have this particular tone you're saying it lacks. That's artifice. You can tackle such scenes in a million different ways.

And hell, I'm sure I'm weird, in this life you're either weird or boring. At this stage I take it as a badge of honor lol.

A little too cutesy but not bad overall. Especially Valdis looks like something I'd play for sure. Not too crazy on platforming as the focus of a game. I kinda lost interest in the genre for the last decade and change. Last game I truly liked in the genre was the Jak and Daxter series.

You're not one of those people who keeps demanding that rape be in porn games are you? Cause I'm sick of rape being in porn games.

That's part of the Vanillaware look so it just makes it authentic to me.

It's pretty shallow to be distracted from a story because a char is sexy and bouncyfull. If anything, it enhances the experience by giving it more nice things to look at as opposed to fewer ones.
There's a point that tits go from being sexy to being grotesquely disproportionate, and on my scale, she passed that about one and a half cup sizes ago.

Yeah while amusing in animation I probably wouldn’t even want to see those IRL. Too big can be worse than too small. Especially when the areo….you know, I’ll just stop now.

Don't mock me. I'm trying to play Crusader Kings 2.
I don't think it will let me log in. Won't accept my country information. Rats. Looks like 2 is FTP now. A 3 is available.

Nah, I'm all for the sickly sweet romantic situations personally. In general demanding things be in any one particular way, whatever that one way is, is what I'm against. Even if you're into something you shouldn't demand that it be in everything, just play the stuff that organically does the thing you like without having to demand it.

They may try to silence me, they may try to cancel me, they may even try to attack those I care about (hah, gd luck with that), but ppl need to know the truth. The brightness setting in Dead Space remake is a dirty rotten lie! It exists in a completely different universe to the actual game. I got all 3 symbols lit up like floodlights, including the one they say should be batman hiding in the shadows, yet it's all still dark as shit in all the darky bits (which are mostly everything). They've found a way to veto my cowardness, damnit!

Good luck and god speed.

Learning how to play CK2 is on my bucket list. Normally I start playing and after about an hour turn it off and curl into a fetal position sobbing after trying to come to grip with the complexity and interface.

I kid but the learning curve to start out is more like a cliff(where people are dropping rocks on you from atop the cliff).

I am on the fence about that game. I never played the original and I tend to stay away from "survival horror" because it's hard and boring, but from what I understand, Dead Space doesn't rely on scarce ammo for the "survival" bit, which is great (I personally hate that gameplay loop where I die 'cause I suck at shooting and I'm out of bullets). I love how the game looks, the fact that like everybody is loving it, and most importantly that whole ripping off limbs combat thing looks hella cool.

But I'm afraid of the dark. Not, like afraid like a phobia, but it's hard to play. All that squinting. I don't like that in games, and I know that's a key part of a game like this.

If I remember right, it relies on it the same way RE4 does, where it is limited and you will feel a pinch, but you will never actually run out unless you try too. I really enjoyed Dead Space 1\2\wiishooter game but I'm not sure if it would be your kinda game.

Yeah, there is definitely something fucky with the brightness slider. Brightness 50 has all three logos clearly visible. 49 makes the left icon completely disappear. Don't know what to say about that one, really.

Dead Space is definitely more action horror, than survival horror. Ammo and health kits are liberally scattered throughout the game, and even if you really struggle, you can always punch the Necromorphs in the face, or throw explosive barrels/spikes at them. So far (on hard mode) I have only ever found myself almost running out of ammo on my pistol weapon once, but I still had loads left in my flamethrower and laser.

As for the darkness. The game is rarely pitch black, but it is often quite dark or dimly lit. I don't really have too much trouble locating enemies though - enemies telegraph their presence pretty obviously, and they have pretty large silhouettes. The only real times I have trouble, are when you are in Zero Gravity, or when there are Lurkers.

Generally though, if you are on the fence, I would still recommend the original game, which you can probably get for pennies. It still holds up really well.

Im 8 out of 12 chapters into the Dead Space remake. Im still not swayed from my opinion that this remake didn't need to exist, but I would still strongly recommend it to newcomers, and fans of the original. Im having a great time with it.

I would just like to comment on the difficulty, though. Im playing this game on the hardest difficulty (other than the one where you only have a single life). I've never run out of ammo. I've never run out of health kits. I've never run out of money. I've had a couple of close calls, but I still haven't even died yet. So far, I am finding the difficulty to be a bit straightforward. I have yet to find anything that isn't fairly quickly dispatched by being blasted in the face with a flamethrower, then sliced apart with the Plasma Cutter. Maybe I would have liked a little more challenge, but I am definitely glad I haven't hit any brick walls.

The Hunter (invincible, regenerates its limbs) still never fails to get my heart racing, though.

It's not a ' day friendly' game unless you can block out all external light. I do understand and agree with the squinting issue, and is why I only play that stuff in as much darkness as possible, otherwise the real challenge is just a sadistic optician's endurance test. I was just voicing surprise at how whatever options I tinkered with didn't seem to help much. This could well be TV related though, as I'm still getting to grips with a fancy new telly, so there's a lot of new shit to fiddle with. Ammo is seemingly generous on hard mode which am playing on right now, and there's always options to stock up or pivot combat tactics to if you do get caught in an awkward moment. It definitely leans more in the action side of horror games, if that helps.

Beat Elden Ring. Overall I enjoyed it very much but there are a few things I didn't like.

The good:
- Combat feels good, most of the time. As usual it excels in one on one duels against enemies with readable attacks.
- World of consistent wonder. It's a world filled with a huge amount of unique and interesting sights and areas to explore. Each of the big geographical areas has its own feel but they're slotted together with seams that are visible but still feel right for the world. Also exploration is consistently rewarded with more things to do. The way the dungeons aren't instanced hammerspaces but real parts of the geography is fantastically executed.
- The visual design of everything from the landscape to the monsters is excellent. Everything you can see tells you more about the world and its story.
- The atmosphere and the general vibes of the story really work, with a nice balance of Soulsy horror and epic fantasy.
- Feels a lot more reasonable in its checkpointing than previous Soulsborne titles.
- Characters are mostly interesting, particularly the core quest related NPCs. I particularly liked Ranni and followed her questline to the end.
- Evergaols were a fun way to do a random boss fight on purpose.

The bad:
- Despite the amount of unique content there is also a lot of content that is reused in a way that only serves to cheapen it. There was no reason for me to fight three Fallingstar Beasts, two Astels, and three Magma Wyrms.
- The mines, catacombs, and heroes' graves are shit slapped together content that should have just been replaced with boss arenas. I avoided them as much as possible.
- A lot of bosses seem like they'd be a real pain to fight in melee given how much time they spend hurtling out of reach of sorceries. The final boss is a terrible offender for this.
- It's probably a bit too easy to end up over-levelled just by playing the game as intended.
- Moonveil is too much of an obviously correct choice of melee weapon for sorcery builds (at least in the lategame, Carian Sword's higher base stats make it stronger early on).
- In traditional Soulsborne fashion a lot of the quests are far too obtuse to be completed without consulting a guide or scouring every inch of the map and/or require you to find one easily missed NPC in a large area.

Every now and then Metro finds new ways to tell us it's a terrible tabloid rag. "Not quite" classic??? Lol.

Also, been getting some unexpected GOW reboot feels from going back to this game that's hard to shake off. Like the way Isaac lurches about, and the commitment to the way the camera never really truly leaves, and the crunchy squishy combat omg so cathartic to stomp annoying enemies into mush long after they're dead! *Ahem* So hey, it could've been GOW reboot before GOD Reboot was even cool, eh?
