@Nick Calandra. just to add, I still care for physical media and I'm sure there are people that still do. While there's the younger generation, there are a good amount of still care about physical, or I try to teach them the importance of having physical copies. Because at some point or another, they are going to regret and realize the mistake they've made for their apathy. When they try to go back to games they can't play anymore. That's why I'm glad Limited Run games exist. They bother to make physical copy a smaller games, though we can't rely on them all the time. Thankfully, we're seeing smaller and Indie games get physical copies, even if you have to order through Amazon, or go to the Best Buy at times.Thank you, Nick.
Sony's Disinterest in Preserving PlayStation's History Is a Missed Opportunity - The Escapist Show

I was wondering if Sterling was going to talk about this. I honestly hope all of this negative publicity will wake Sony up and get them back on a more gamer friendly track (I think that’s the right term).
Sterling is already on it. I'm getting a weird sense of Dijon mustard right now.
They will when they start losing money. Companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo never learn. they will "learn" humility when it's convenient or when they really start losing their green. Like I said before, history repeats itself. Every time a console maker gets arrogant, they get all cocky and start making dumb or dictated decision. Only when they start losing those numbers and all those zeros, that they suddenly care, crying, saying we're sorry or we learned our lesson. I wish it were that simple. The cycle is going to start all over again.I was wondering if Sterling was going to talk about this. The pendelum is bound to swing back and forth. Sony dominated last generation and Microsoft had to figure something out if they wanted to even have a chance in the console market. If this ends up bad for Sony then it could cause people to turn back towards Microsoft if they can capitalize on it.They will when they start losing money. On one hand, I very much applaud MS for making the XBOX BC for like 2 generations in a row now. I wish Sony would follow that lead.I find it funny that nobody even MENTIONED Xbone Series X in my "next gen 6 months later" thread. Because ya'll can mock PS5 for barely having any games, but nobody even considered Microsoft in the Next Gen race at all because the only thing their "most powerful console ever" is good for is playing 25 year old shit on.
Meanwhile tomorrow Sony gets yet another PS5 exclusive.
At the end of the day, what is going to bring new customers to your system more? Brand NEW crazylooking games? Or decades old games from days gone by?
It's not the kind of games I like to see but I think microsoft is correct in betting on game pass to provide the kind of value for money that will attract a lot of customers. It has been there go-to tactic since the early days of windows; just throw around a gigantic amount of cash to monopolize the market. Sony really doesn't have an alternative for game pass but rather relies on a handful of exclusives to sell their system which also needs to be commercially viable for the mass market(hence why they are primarily focusing on worldwide studios now and shutting down japan studio). Sony really seems to go back and forth between investing in niche titles, having affinity with the creative process and supporting small studios to discarding it just as easily and then focusing solely on the business side. This kind of competition ultimately just leads to a race to the bottom where sales projections are predominantly valued by the lowest common denominator. At the end of the day, what is going to bring new customers to your system more? Brand NEW crazylooking games? Or decades old games from days gone by?
I'm collecting 4K movies and games again, so I'm sure plenty of people do like you said. But the generation of kids growing up with Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft etc could give a darn about any physical stuff. They just want their games and they want them now.@Nick Calandra. just to add, I still care for physical media and I'm sure there are people that still do. But you and Jack are dead on about Sony. People on this forum looked at me funny, but I told them what would happen. I told him they're making the same mistake they did in the PS3 era.
I mean emulation and piracy of old games is gonna be the only way to play most of it eventually.@CriticalGaming.
At least Microsoft bothers the try with there backwards compatibility. I'll give them more than their fair share of credit on that end. You have some points, but it's still bull crap. They know they can support these but they rather not do it. All I got to do is Port most of the stuff to PS4 or PS5. Not all them can be physical, but it can still be on digital storefronts for the upgraded versions of PSN. it's the same problem Nintendo has with Mario 3D all stars. They're superficially creating artificial scarcity just to meet their stupid freaking quota. I bought myself a copy of Mario 3D all stars, because I care about Galaxy that much. Even though I already have copies of Sunshine and Galaxy on my GameCube and we respectively.
I still play my old consoles every now and then. Maybe not every single game, every single time, but I pop them in once in a while just to get away from the crap that comes on modern consoles. Though there's more than enough games I have that avoid the micro transaction and loot box bullcrap, so lucky me. If there's any console I really don't miss it's my Wii U despite all the good times, I predicted that a majority of those games will be reported either Switch or other next gen consoles.
Sony support these games if they wanted to, they're just too lazy to do it. So people start pirating this games, Sony has no right to whine and cry like a little biatch. Most of these companies don't. Especially those of the AAA industry. I'm more worried for the smaller and indie games. Unless they're games already on steam or on modern consoles, they are shit out of luck.
Sooner or later they will regret the terrible mistakes they made, and they will have no one to blame but themselves. I will whisper to them "Told you so". Granted, the AAA hype machine is a big fucking problem and the major source of their attitude. The other thing being parents spoiling they crotch goblins. That is where the the "I need it now attitude!", comes from as well.I'm collecting 4K movies and games again, so I'm sure plenty of people do like you said. But the generation of kids growing up with Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft etc could give a darn about any physical stuff. They just want their games and they want them now.
No it's not. Especially when some asshole at the top hypocritically proclaims "No one plays old games anymore!", while said company sell PS1 Classics with the worst versions of most of the games (50 HZ UK/EUR versions), and puts TLOUS and God of War III (yet none of the other prequels, which were ported to PS3) on PS4. You can thank Nintendo for starting backwards compatibility, thank you very much. I still have my GameCube and Wii for a reason, along with my PS2 slim as well. And frankly this annoyance at the lack of backwards compatability is a little silly considering it wasnt even a thing until the playstation 2. Nintendo consoles didnt have backwards ability until the wii, though the gameboy maintained it for a while.
That's one thing. It's matter of taking care of your shit or seeing a specialists.Working Atari 2600 machines are getting rarer. And even the chipsets are degrading now. There is only so much life in anything.
And tends to make the same mistakes over and over again.Eventually though the medium moves on.
Licensed games based off of non-game IPs, yes. Most IPs that are already games to begin with, no. You know that is deflection and making bullshit excuses. And a lot of games are forced to be lost due to copyright and other rights issues.
It's more than a band-aid. They put effort regardless, if they realize it or not.Yes it is nice that Microsoft at least offers this, but imo it is a bandaid.
Square literally cannot release a new remaster or even a rerelease of Final Fantasy Crisis Core, because it uses the likeness of some Japanese pop star and they no longer have the right to his likeness and therefore cannot release a new version of the game without remaking the whole thing and cutting a main character out of it completely.Licensed games based off of non-game IPs, yes. Their own fault. Crisis Core sucked any way. No one needs Gackt again. I already have one game of him on PS2.Square literally cannot release a new remaster or even a rerelease of Final Fantasy Crisis Core, because it uses the likeness of some Japanese pop star and they no longer have the right to his likeness and therefore cannot release a new version of the game without remaking the whole thing and cutting a main character out of it completely.
Yet with all of the money and scamming they make from GTA Online, they know they can afford it, but don't want to do it. For all of their boasting of their wealth, and "ULTRA ALPHA MALE ROCKSTARS!!!!"; Rockstar are nothing but a bunch of cowards and bitches. Wannabe alphas that cry when things don't go their way. I find most of the GTAs pointless to go back to and find them boring.GTA games have been pulled off market because they don't have the license to the music within the game anymore. And Publishers aren't going to continue to renew music licenses for old titles to continue to sell them infinitely.
You take that back or we can't ever be friends!Crisis Core sucked any way.
To be fair, there is also the problem with music rights changing labels and labels not wanting to work with games companies. It does happen and even some artists don't work with video games. I can't think of a single game to ever use a Metallica song for example (outside of the guitar hero games).Yet with all of the money and scamming they make from GTA Online, they know they can afford it, but don't want to do it. For all of their boasting of their wealth, and "ULTRA ALPHA MALE ROCKSTARS!!!!", Rockstar are nothing but a bunch of cowards and bitches. Wannabe alphas they cry when things don't go things their way. I find most of the GTAs pointless to go back to and find them boring.
I like the not so subtle camera shake when the enormous Biscuit jumps off Jack’s lap. I think a diet plan is in the near future?Thank you, Nick.
