God, you misinterpret my comment and then have a rant about how I'm stupid?

I'm implying that you should have checked out the bloody game to see a number of things including exclusivity and system specs before buying it.
Excuse me good sir, I never once called you stupid. I have no idea of your intelligence, I was pointing out that your statement wasn't a well thought out one. Nor was it particularly valid.

My system specs were fine. I don't remember the exact listing on the site but it did refer to DRM, and I was fully used to CD keys and online activations so I had no reason to suspect Steam would be so different in its approach.

I went into Steam with an open mind, yes I was fairly annoyed that I had to install a third party program but then again we have all had to put up with gamespy at one point or another.

What you're suggesting is illogical... how could I have known Steam would screw me about before having actually purchased the game?

And anyway... it's freaking Total War! I'll grit my teeth for Steam or even Ubisofts DRM to play one of them... doesn't mean I'll be happy about the DRM though.

Cmon Valve destroy Microsoft and there shitty gfwl. Microsoft recently stated they would support the pc but they just announced exclusive xbox 360 fallout: new vegas dlc.
Yeah, because destroying all other companys is a good thing >.>
you sir and trying to be clever but end up sounding like a cracker. EXPRESSION OF SPEECH
Not trying to sound smart. Merely hinting that maybe you should understand why GFWL is actually a good thing for PC gaming in general (not as a service guys, its horrible as that).

Competition breeds advancement.
Exactly, capitalism at work!

Everybody loves Steam.
*raises hand* I don't
Back when my computer had no internet connection steam was pure evil. It's not only digital distribution but it's DRM. I was at a friends house with no internet connection and couldn't even install a game from the disc. Steam really needs to be optional, otherwise it's no better then any other DRM.

You didn't get it. Destroying GFWL is a good thing. There's still room for D2D, Impulse, GoG, GMG, etc... Just not GFWL. Never GFWL.

Seeing as you misinterpreted it, you have no basis for saying it wasn't well thought out. Not to mention it was completely valid.

I had no idea about your sys specs, and if you were told that it had DRM, why are you bothered? As people have mentioned before, Steam is widely regarded as the best DRM service currently available.

I appreciate that you had to download the game, but my point is that with the information you had given at the time, it seemed that you were making reduntant points about Steam.

I got steam with the intention to just buy HL2, which I never did, but have used it so much. I generally have it running in the backround. Lots of fun.

Now you're missing the point of my argument... that or purposefully ignoring it.

I don't care if Steam is widely regarded as the best DRM service... it's fucked me over where GFWL hasn't.

I didn't download the game, I screwed around with Steam until it installed it from my disc. My internet could no way support a 4GB download.

Anyway The Inbetweeners is on in a minute and I want to go watch it...

It?s a form of DRM..... "That sucks."
It?s a form of DRM that also offers loads of useful tools for moldable games, content delivery and game related social networking. It makes multiplayer with people you enjoy a simple thing..... "w00t."
Turns out I don't mind the DRM

OT/ I love that steam is growing at such an outstanding rate; it really is encouraging for the PC community.

Wow... Someone who's actually on the exact same page as I. I hate DRM, but the pros v. cons of Steam far outweigh any DRM annoyances I might have with it.

It also astounds me that people keep saying they prefer GFWL and Xbox Live when, if you compare the features/games/sales lists of each, Steam does what they do yet excels in every regard. And, does it AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER!

On a side note to those that have trouble playing things in offline mode. Try this. Next time a game updates or you're in online mode, start up the game(s) you plan on playing. After they load, feel free to shut them down. This step is for simply making sure the game's updated and operational. Next, go to your Steam games list and right-click the options in each game you want to play. Turn automatic updating off. Lastly, go to the top of the Steam window and set it to offline mode.

Voila. You can play any of your games offline for as long as you like. Should you ever go back online, you never have to worry about them being disabled because your computer crashed or your connection failed. Unless, of course, you turn updating back on.

Would you prefer limited install DRM? Or DRM that requires you to be connected to the internet 100% of the time? Steam is the only DRM that actually works with it's customers.
I bloody hate DRM, Steam is the only one that doesn't make me spit blood
I'd prefer no DRM but we can't all get our way.

Steam made me rage the first day I used it (as seen above) whereas GFWL has always worked well for me. Even in the dreaded offline mode!
I'm the opposite, GFWL has given me nothing but grief with shitty mic support, and taking a long time to download DLC for fallout 3, mind you I downloaded 60GB of games off steam in 2 hours or so.

Yeah it's a shame... though you know the GFWL team take a lot of feedback?

They ask for it quite a lot on their Facebook page and the GFWL client has a feedback button allowing you to send off what they could make better.

I know it's not perfect and I think it's a massive shame that it works badly for a lot of people.

Well I'm quite confident they can get it sorted... eventually... at least they are adding a lot more games to their download service, that should keep me entertained.

yea but I think he thought you were going to start a flame war by disagreeing with the major views of this topic derailing it with random arguments. at least this is what I think he thought you thought you were going to do.

It would be great is not for it being required to play almost every good PC game, adding an extra step to every installation and then taking hours to play the game.

10 minutes later on Google... I can't install Empire because Play.com sent it me a day early... so I must install it tomorrow... -.- fine.
Yeah that happened to me aswell when I pre-ordered Metro 2033 it came a day early so I was hyped up... But I couldn't play on it. Lets just say I weren't pleased :(.

Aside from that I actually love steam. Constant sales on lots of stuff and I can speak to some of my friends aswell so it makes organising games a whole lot easier :D

Just realised I sound like someone who is advertising it :S

The problem is they haven't been supporting it, they tried to make xboxlive for PCs but ran into a problem when no one wanted to pay a monthly fee for something they got for free. Last I checked I barely could access the DLC I wanted it the website would bug out. They need to drop more support into it if they want to see anything from anyone.

They can't go about it with the mentality of a console, PC users have always played for free and used their own servers. They can charge for stuff but it has to make sense, unlike Activision and 15 dollars for 4 maps.
