I'd point out that we'd grown.

There once was a point where the wiping out of a species would be something we'd not bat an eyelid at. But these days, there are organizations and policies dedicated to keeping every species alive. We see it as a sign of our growing enlightenment as a species.

Therefore, if we are less enlightened than this alien species, surely we too should be kept alive, under these same principles of enlightenment.

And, if we are more enlightened, then shouldn't they reconsider the idea of wiping us out?

OT: I'd say that even though we have all this horrible stuff, we also have people willing to give their lives for other people, we have love and empathy, we have bacon, skittles, the potential for greatness, and if we aren't worth saving then we'll probably kill ourselves off anyway, so the most practical course of action is to save us.

You've all probably seen movie/game (coughgreenlanterndaytheearthstoodstillcough) where aliens debate on whether they should commit to sparing/saving Earth.

I figure this is probably a difficult question for pessemistics.

I've got nothing. I could show them what we're like and they'd react by flying back to their home planet to get a bigger, more powerful weapon to make sure we are completely annihilated and/or kill us more painfully. That might buy us some time to do, well, something.

Letting an antire sentient species die out is morally wrong. By even debating it you have no moral high ground. Hell humans have made efforts to keep animals of all sizes from going extinct, so why are should we not be given the same chance. I mean come on guys, at least try.
