Anonymous on PSN Outage: "For Once We Didn't Do It"

The problem with Anonymous is that there is no formal group. While that does prevent every single person from being caught or targeted by police or companies, it also prevents us from being protected by their antics. A good comparison would be that Anonymous is like Mass Effect's Cerberus. There is no single unified group, it is composed of various splinter groups and factions aswell as individuals who all basically work towards a single goal (Though there may be some individuals who are looked up to or respected the same as the 'Illusive Man' from Mass Effect, one example is 'Wise Beard Man' who a fair number of Anon protesters look up to in the fight against Scientology). While they all refer to themselves as Anonymous, that doesn't mean that they are noble or good like one group is. So if ANYONE from Anonymous commits a illegal or bystander affecting action, it basically brings a negative image to ALL Anonymous members.

I personally had both. Planning on getting a new 360 soon since mine RROD after 5 years of abuse. I prefer the 360 online to the PS3 and the 1 PS3 exclusive game that I have is pretty forgettable IMO. Planning on buying other PS3 exclusive and hopefully they won't be too forgettable.

They are probably the MOST scary of any set of the Hacker levels because they have NO IDEA what the fuck they are actually doing. They say oh hey I have this program that can do this. But is that all it does? Someone could make a program and release it out to the script kiddies that when enough people use it it hijacks the computers and shuts down the internet as a whole. Yeah its not the script kiddies that programed it but its their stupidity for not know what the program is that they are using.

It's quite obvious what happened. Someone spilled a beer on the network servers and fried a whole grid. These last two days they have been replacing the grids and servers and probably right now are installing the data and preppingit for use.

Anonymous is an organization that attacks data points for a purpose. If they didn't do it, I would believe them.

They didn't really have a purpose when they attacked PSN. Unless it was to piss people off who had no bearing on Sony or the court case. They even had to backpedal from the anger that could've been avoided if they'd taken the time to asses what their actions would mean. Sony isn't really hurt since its a free service and Plus content is still available.

They did outright state the reason for their attack on Sony when they did attack Sony. Since they didn't disable the the PSN by their own admission this time, it's literally stupid to blame them. Even if they did, they have no reason to fear openly admitting to it. No one knows who the members are, besides them of course. Why would they deny it, if they did do it?

I'm just saying that people said it was a splinter group of them. Just because the names are similar, doesn't mean they have anything to do with Anonymous (the group responsible for overloading the Sony website, not shutting down PSN). If anything, other individuals seemed to have made their name similar because people in the video game community do know who Anonymous is, as a group.

In any event, this wouldn't hurt Sony in the long run at all. Really, all this did was make it so people couldn't play their games online, mostly hurting the end users. I don't like Sony as a company, and while I agreed with Geohotz, at no point did I agree with punishing the end users of the PSN.

I'm also not moved by statements that Anonymous has no central chain of command or whatever. It's clear to me that their members do share common ideals and beliefs, and apparently among those beliefs is the idea that if someone takes measures to prevent piracy on a console, you've got to try and hurt them as much as possible. I suppose I should be thankful that the best they can muster is script-kiddie attacks and tiny physical protests, rather than violent attacks like a more, shall we say, "advanced" terrorist organization.

So, looks like something looked suspicious and they shut it down for good measure. Well, thats what I see. Or somebody poked PSN and well...damn it, I wanna get on.
I do believe that it isn't anonymous, it isn't their style to affect millions of consumers. Anonymous would take down the PlayStation website then PSN. So somehow, something isn't right in PSN land.
