Any games where you liked the sequel more than the first?

Bioshock 2. The only thing about it I honestly disliked was the lack of Tenenbaum (the best thing from the first game. ... unless you count the sequel.) The dual-wielding was great, the hacking was far less of a pain in the ass, the Little Sister handling this time around was less of a checklist item, and the plasmid upgrades were much more interesting.

... oh, and Big Sister. Big Sister was just awesome. A ***** to fight, but awesome when
you get one on your side.
(Spoilers just to be safe.)

bioshock 2. the game's combat got a much needed overhaul, the main character was in gauging, and the overall story was MUCH better. plus, i actually grew angry with Sofia lamb, where Ryan was just a man i was suppose to kill.
She was a smug, hypscritical, power hungry, underhanded, cruel, lying, arrogent, self-righteous, selfish *****. She enjoyed shooting her mouth off at you when she could, preached a mixture of bullshit, propoganda and lies, tried to usurp rapture because she as a socialist disagreed with the majorities views and would rather ruin everything for everyone than lose. Ryan in contrast had a few screws loose, but he had a vision of his utopia, his philosopy is your entiteled to what you earn, yet he degenerated into the very dictators he was avoiding with his own propoganda and brainwashing to counteract Sophia Lamb's.
See, I enjoyed Sofia so much more because she was a smug, hypocritical, power hungry, underhanded, cruel, lying, arrogant, self-righteous selfish *****. ... You forgot manipulative.

I don't know, I just like the 'far beyond saving' insane types who will do ungodly dirty things to achieve their ends, and Sofia sums that up perfectly. Ryan was just... there. Everyone else seemed so much more active and slightly intelligent, Ryan just seemed... stupid. He REALLY thought Rapture would work? Anyone with an ounce of sense could see it would collapse into civil war pretty damn fast. Faster than it actually did, honestly.

Demon's Souls, obviously the sequel to I wanna be the guy.

Uhh... Then probably Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Rampage 2, and Kingdom Hearts 2.

There's a lot of good sequel games, but saying they are better than the original is hard. Most of the time they improve and add things, but can't compete with the impact of playing and experiencing the game the first time around.

Star Wars Battlefront 2, which i absolutely adore. Seriously, its brilliant.

And of course... Assassins Creed 2 which pretty much everyone and their mother is going to say, since it improved everything from the original.

Halo 2 i liked better than the first as well, some fond memories of that game..

Ah yes, Shadow Hearts: Covenant. I did wind up liking that one more than the first, although the first hit the creepy/demonoid tone a bit better IMO.

Other games: Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 2, and the G.U. series for .hack more than the first series (each series basically counts as one game). Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 2 as well. Ah, and Kingdom Hearts II. The 1000 Heartless Battle (and the sequence of events leading up to it plot-wise), as easy as it may have been, is one of my favorite gaming experiences. And I'm not sure if this counts, but I liked the Mask of the Betrayer expansion more than I liked Neverwinter Nights 2. And I liked the Hordes of the Underdark expansion more than I liked Neverwinter Nights 1.

So, are there any games out there where you liked the sequel better than the original? I'm sure there are a few.

For me, I sort of enjoyed Drakengard 2 more than the first. The first was brilliant and I loved everything about it, but there was something about the second game that made me enjoy it even more.

I also liked Parasite Eve 2 more than the first one.

Now, you guys?

I'm a Parasite Eve 2 fan as well! The first one seemed a little shoddy!

I started reading this post, expecting to think, "pshhh this guy", but your last point is very very true. I've never thought of it like that.
