The problem with games that are juevenile and lack depth is that when they're as popular and successful as Call of Duty it promotes MORE games that are juevnile and lack depth because the games sell better that way. Meanwhile games that actually have a semblence artistic merit and creativity get left collecting dust on the shelves because the bigger, popular, and brainless titles get more attention.Vescosein said:

It cites Black Ops in particular which arguably has WORSE graphics then MW2...
When a game has terrible graphics it just does... have these people not played anything post-N64 besides CoD?

Have you ever had to drill in front of crowds of people who aren't in the military? It doesn't matter if crawling in the mud will save your life, grown men playing war games shouting, "BAM BAM BAM" at an imaginary bunker is not dignified, but it's damn more advanced than any video game on the subject matter. Seriously, pausing an entire movement because some guys kicked their soccer ball across our path.

Its somewhat taboo for them. It's that "Mature Only" factor that makes it interesting. Pre-teens and teens want to be treated like they are adults so they are more interested in things that adults do.
Also they brag to they're friends that they've done this or that and it gives them attention. For instance why is it that....
Playing violent video games
Watching gore-filled movies
Cussing
Smoking before 18
Getting smashed before 21
is soooo appealing? It's appealing because it's not something you are supposed to do when your that young.
On the note of getting your ass handed to you by a 12 yr old, that is because they dont have a job. All they have is School and, for some, other after-school activities such as sports. They have more time to practice they're game. Much more than those that go to college or work 10 hr shifts.

You know, what? I've been sitting here for awhile and this is all I honestly have to say on the issue.
Before that, it was Halo. Before that, it was Counter-Strike. And waaay before that it was the Quake/Doom/Duke3D era. Every generation has their own "it" title for any and every age group and the same thing can be said about CoD. Any more straw-man arguments?
First off, what's wrong with Harry Potter? You seem to insult it, and I'm not exactly sure why. It's a solid novel that starts off young and grows up with its characters and target audience. So, I don't know where you're going with that one.
Now, is CoD for kids? Meh. It's for anyone who wants fast paced action. I don't like CoD. I own pretty much all of them, but I actually don't really like it. But, I don't think there is a point to insult their player base, and if you don't mean to, it kinda seems like you are in the post.
