The fact that Apple seriously believes that the iPhone as a gaming platform is in the same ballgame as the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP is so God damned funny it makes me crap my pants of the comedy (and tragedy) of it.

I don't know whats more funny, the iPhone trying to go head-to-head with the most sold handheld gaming consoles ever in existance in human history or the fact that Apple is so dilusional that they actually think they have the slightliest chance of success.

I don't know about you or which world you other people live in, but here in Sweden the iPhone 3G 16GB costs 550? (800 US Dollars). Nearly five times more than the NDS and nearly TWICE the price of the Sony PSP. Unless you want to sigh up for a 2-year contract, which then will land you on a hefty 50? monthly fee.

Also, last time I checked, iPhone games took merely 1-2 hours to beat - at best.

How's that cheaper than the other consoles again?

Firstly, the DS can't really do anything but play games. OK, sure DSi can now connect to the web or whatever, but I think-- sorry, I KNOW iPhone is much better at surfing the web than a DS is.
You know what else is good for surfing the web? A PC. How often do you need to look at the internet on the go?
I think the better question is "why would you buy a gaming handheld for something other than games?" This has always confused me, in that yes I understand people would love to have their MP3 players and their phones and their gaming machines all in one bundle but so far, in terms of the handheld gaming market itself, the Game Boy and (to a lesser extent) the DS dominated the market based purely on games, not extra bullshit like TV Tuners (Sega Game Gear) or being a phone (N-Gage).
I like to read comic books on my DS. And my friend likes reading them on his PSP. But we both still think that DS, with the touch screen and dual screens gives a better "feel". Almost like a real comic book.
Yeah but I don't think either of you had that specific function in mind, over games, when you purchased them. Course I could be wrong.
Actually, he plays only Dragon Ball games and reads the manga on his PSP... But yeah, I wanted it mainly for:

a) playing GBC games.
b) playing GBA games.
c) playing SNES, Genesis and ANY other old-school console
d) playing awesome DS games like Devil Survivor (which got me interested into the PS2 versions), The World Ends With You and series from GBA, like Megaman ZX, Advance Wars and other games.

I don't see even one of those things on the iPhone/iPod. But why would I want to buy them anyway? I have a phone, I don't need touch-screen crap and I have an 8GB MP4 player, I don't need more.

O RLY?

They really don't have the right to talk about this when Fart Apps and Gun Apps are a majority of the App Store's catalog.

Alright, alright, perhaps I should have clarified that statement a bit before posting. What I meant by teenage girls were ones who are totally immersed in popular culture, and thus more likely to buy Apple's shit because it looks good with their purse.

Teenage girls who have an IQ of over 80 and can think for themselves, keep up the good work. All four of you...
I really should introduce you to most of my peers. It might work to dampen some of that stereotyping urge. Been a teen doesn't make one stupid. Being a teenage girl doesn't either.
I'm not speaking out of prejudice, Labyrinth, I'm a teen myself. Most guys and girls my age are completely motivated by shallow social doctrine, and anti-intellectualism is rampant across the board.

That said, Zune HD is gonna kick the iTouch's ass and even the Zune HD does not stand on level footing as the PSP or DSi on the gaming side of life. (I am not fond of PSP or the DSi as well, a bit too casual for my taste)

Edit: For those who may not know, the Zune HD has the new Tegra processor in it along with HD radio, OLED, games & apps, social, zune pass, and a slew of other things that I am not going to bother mentioning...
Hmm i smell a bit of M$ Fanboyism here; and you can say the Zune beats the iPod touch when it takes over its immense market share.(Which of course it never will)

When they can make an apple product that isn't overpriced garbage, then they can have the tiniest shred of respect from me. Until then they need to stop bashing superior handhelds and stick to hawking their shiny expensive things.
Apple stuff is more expensive cos its better; making the jump from PC to Mac may have cost me a shitload of money, but frankly it's worth every penny to be free of all that M$ bullshit
Can uh, can your Mac run Crysis? What's that? NO? Really? Then please silence your mouth. I had an ipod, it was terrible, I now have a zune, it was great. My family had a macbook, and every single one of us hated the damn thing. More money=/=better. Although I must applaud Steve Jobs for being able to sell an inferior product for 4 times what it is worth.
Yeah if i had bootcamp on my mac, i could run Crysis easily. The zune? Its another example of M$ being late to the party with a product that is a sad, cheap ripoff of their rivals. You must have a family of M$ fanboys by the sound of it; my family hate their windows systems, while i get on with my mac fine. If you wanna get started on inferiour products, remember that M$ have not made a good OS since 2001.
I agree that More money=/=better, but in certain cases, eg with a mac, it is
Silly mac users it's all about Linux, I think Open Pandora will beat the iphone in gaming since idk it's a open gaming platform =D. And I'm sry but I'm a tech person and mac's are not better then MS or Linux. I've used macs and they seem lacking, but yeah if you had bootcamp more you have to get to match a windows PC. If apple's stuff was "better" why do you need bootcamp? And saying "I run windows on a Mac, but Mac is still better" is crap(not saying you said that, I'm just gonna say this now), if windows sucks why do you need windows?
Well the only reason i'd get bootcamp is if i wanted to play PC games. I just prefer OSX over xp or vista, and i Preffer apple's hardware over most windows pc makers; i'd prefer my Macbook pro, with it's one-piece aluminium body, than some crappy acer or dell laptop that is just plastic pieces mashed together.
Just like I prefer building my own PC for cheaper(once I get around to that I shall) for cheaper then a mac to play my awesome games, and run linux on it also.

While the iPhone might have more games, the vast majority of them are terrible. It comes down to whether you'd like a sack of diamonds or a mountain of crap. Even most of the better iPhone games are still short and repetitive and only good for passing the time in lectures. Also, they're mainly craptacular flash game ports you can find for free online.

What it did do differently this time compared to every other time, however, was directly criticize its competition. Sounds like Apple really is turning into a gaming company. What's next, Steve Jobs coming on stage with tattoos of logos [http://i30.tinypic.com/2ij3q1d.jpg] on his arms?
Well, Jobs did recently get a new liver from a 20-year old gamer...

Quite cocky, aren't you, Apple?

Until Apple decides to make a handheld specifically for gaming, they're going to be out shined by Sony and Nintendo.

I care not for market share.. people don't know what they want, or what is good(if they did, linux would rule the world). That is proven time and time again. I care for hardware and software capabilities only. Zune has a much higher capability than any iPod does, period. That is all I care about. I gave about half of the list of things that make the Zune better from a capability and software standpoint.

Yes I am a M$ guy... I have good reason to be.. it pays my bills and lets me have a ton of fun. But that has nothing to do with why I am going to be getting a Zune, I have owned 5 ipods, 2 of which are still alive. (1 mini, 2 nanos, 1 video, and 1 classic - the video and 1st gen nano are all that have survived) I still have my original Zune 30GB with Zune Pass, and that alone makes it better than any of the other ones. If for no other reason, Zune Pass is the reason to get a Zune... but that last statement is my opinion.

No Macbook Pro can play Crysis.. You are full of s***!!(unless by play you mean watch a slideshow) Although I do agree that system builders SUCK! To really enjoy a PC exerience you have to build it yourself; end of story. Its really unfortunate that Alienware has fallen as they were the last reputable system builders outside of Lenovo but they only do business-types.

Other notes.. Windows 7 is the fastest most solid OS I have ever worked on, and XP the 10yr old OS is still better than OSX in my opinion as it lets us work and have fun easily and cheaply. I believe 7 will be a game-changer with DX11. I will strongly agree that Vista sucked on 60% of machines(if it worked, it was great... it just only worked half the time)

I don't own one so I don't know the answer to this, but is the iPhone/iPod Touch really that good of a gaming device? Somehow I just don't see it.

Apple ipods and iphone are so damn fradgile I wouldn't go near one myself, besides my PSP is reliable and got plenty of games. I dont see how Apple can be silly enough to think it has a chance against Nintendo and Sony.
