Even if you did you'd likely miss out of 90% of the cultural references and subtext. That's an unfortunate side effect that only being Japanese can help.RatRace123 said:I choose to curl up into a fetal ball and sob.
I can't speak or read any japanese, and the game looks plenty confusing enough without the added effect of not being able to understand what anyone's saying.
Which is exactly why I'm now hoping that someone just made a mistake or misinterpreted a comment or spoke above their place in the company or something.RedEyesBlackGamer said:It just doesn't add up. Catherine was hyped way more than the upcoming sequel to Demon's Souls. What could they possibly gain by ignoring what could be a successful (in terms of sales) localization AND alienating their fan base? Me thinks someone at Atlus USA has made a major blunder and doesn't realize it yet.
And this is another thing to take into consideration. Browsing their front page doesn't give any hints of it being a troll or anything like that, but the fact that they're unknown to everyone on this forum, as well as the brevity of the comment that is supposed to have come from Atlus makes it a little suspicious.razer17 said:Who the hell are BeefJack, and why should I trust that they are the first site to be told that Catherine won't be coming to America? Seems odd to me.
They brought us Demon's Souls, and the difficulty was patched. Would they worry about that?Ashsaver said:The reason why Atlus has no plan to localize this game yet is probably because this game is fiendishly hard.
But as far as I'm aware, there are actually a few Japanese games that actually have more difficult difficulties added to the western releases in order to be more of a challenge to western gamers. Some of the MGS series are examples.Ashsaver said:The reason why Atlus has no plan to localize this game yet is probably because this game is fiendishly hard.
I just did a quick check of IGN and Gamespot, and neither of them have reported it. I know neither of them are of the highest journalistic standard, but they ARE the biggest gaming websites, so I would think news like this would be likely to go to one of those first.mireko said:And this is another thing to take into consideration. I mean, I don't want to incite paranoia here, but I'm starting to wonder/hope that this is nonsense.
Well,The Japanese are the first to complain about its difficulty, and even getting a patch to make the game easier.mireko said:They brought us Demon's Souls, and the difficulty was patched. Would they worry about that?
I do believe you've summed up just about everyone's opinions on this. You've certainly done mine. I am disappoint indeed.luckycharms8282 said:Damn, I was definitely interested in this game. Id never pay sixty big ones for it, but Id definitely rent it or borrow it.
He also pointed out EXACTLY why this "no US localization" plan of theirs makes sense.Jamous said:I do believe you've summed up just about everyone's opinions on this. You've certainly done mine. They are at the very least somewhat trustworthy (except for their reviews~), but all I can find is a Destructoid article (that links BeefJack as the only source) and nothing on Siliconera or Kotaku.razer17 said:I just did a quick check of IGN and Gamespot, and neither of them have reported it. Fiendishly hard, sure. If it's too much for people then they can try Easy mode. I've never heard anyone say, "I'd buy that game if it wasn't so hard," and I don't think it's simply because they're ashamed of their failures.Ashsaver said:Well,The Japanese are the first to complain about its difficulty, and even getting a patch to make the game easier.mireko said:They brought us Demon's Souls, and the difficulty was patched. Even so,this game is still fiendishly hard, while Demon's Soul is just very hard.
Actually I downloaded the demo off of japanese XBL marketplace and it wasn't a JRPG at all, it was more of a puzzle game mixed with a visual novel. The gameplay was pretty fun (even though I had no idea what the instructions were telling me) and the story seemed interesting as well (even though, again, I had no idea what was going on).Hiphophippo said:I don't really get into jrpgs much but...the tone and subject matter of this game really intrigued me. There just wasn't much like it no the shelves as near as I could tell.
Pretty sad about this. Here's hoping things turn around.
Oh please, Atlus couldn't bring the animu parties than were Persona 3 and 4 over fast enough. Then they released the PSP version of Persona 1, a dungeon slog par excellence with no happy friendly time interludes.airrazor7 said:Saw this coming!
I bet a secret law was passed in Japan that prevents the sale of unique games in Europe and America.
You know what will actually surprise me? If the next Persona actually gets released outside of Japan. Look at the current trend of eastern created games. They have not been crossing the sea.
Failure? oh no,not at all! the game was a success! despite the game being fiendishly hard(even on easy mode, forgot to mention that.)mireko said:Fiendishly hard, sure.
