This'll have to be my last post for the night....

Television only does so much because everybody has access to it. It's what people do when they're alone that really shows who they are. And what they're really into.
That's great if we're talking fetishes, but you're talking exposure to sexuality period, so it doesn't hold up.

Sexual education begins at grade 3 where I am from, And I went through it in grade 5. Maybe it's a regional thing.
Quite possibly, though with the increase of people complaining about seventh graders being taught, I think you're probably in the extreme, not me.

Shockingly, I do have plenty of friends who have a greater affinity for spiritual wellness as opposed to physical pleasure. There was a time not too long ago where sex was taboo to the point where people can at least respect the fact that there is a time and place to talk about it. Oh, by the way - you should also know that I am of the belief that it is important for boys to work toward being fathers. Meaning that if the basic instinct is hedonism, then sexual promiscuity would seem far more tempting than sleeping with a wife for the rest of his life.
Shockingly, I have plenty of friends who are gay. We're still around 10% of the population. I also have several friends who are trans. We're still less than 1% of the population. This should demonstrate two things: The tendency of our own personal experiences to be skewed, and the tendency of like to find like.

I'm not particularly sure how the balance of that statement works, specifically connecting "boys becoming fathers" to hedomism, but okay. Father in the social sense? Because any boy can biologically be a father upon reaching a certain age.

As for your last point. All I have to say is - do your research on retired pornstars. Please.
You're the one making the point, back it up. Don't ask me to prove your point for you, especially when the information I've already seen on the subject contradicts you. If you have real information then post it by all means, but your other arguments seem completely ass-backwards, so it's hard to imagine you've actually researched this one thoroughly.

At first glance I thought this thread was about bashing the Poms.

I was disappointed with the actual topic...

There are plenty of band level cultures that have, at best, maybe a tent separating the chillins from the parents "doing the dirty." There are plenty of chiefdoms where a ritualistic dance which includes children of all ages doing pretty erotic moves. I'm going to have to say that Western culture is the exception and not the norm as far as the age at which children are introduced to sex (as a thing that exists).

Ok, thanks for expanding. However, while you have given me a list of concerns that may be related to the prevalence of porn, you haven't really explained what you would do with porn. Even if it is directly responsible for all those concerns, would you ban porn? Would you make it illegal? What are you going to do about it?

As far as I can tell from your posts, you are very worried about porn, particularly on young people today, and on the effect it may have on their behaviour. You seem to be discussing this on this forum - maybe to educate people about the negative follow-on effects of viewing porn?

I could argue each concern is not directly the result of viewing porn. But, I going to assume each one is true. Even if it is so, how do we handle something without limiting people's freedoms? If a person is old enough to make decisions for themselves, who are we to dictate what they can and cannot view? I know of some places that do this. One of them is called China. Are you really advocating we take an approach of censoring everything that we personally do not agree with?

Are you advocating scare tactics? Tell people just how bad viewing porn can be for them? Thats commendable (assuming, of course, you really can link porn to issues such as abortion and STD's). However, history will show us that such tactics are usually ineffective. People know smoking is bad for them. However, there are still smokers. You may find a similar effect if a large-scale scare compaign against porn is put into motion.

So, before I go further, what would you do? I know I take responsibility for myself and regulate my own viewing habits, but I would be profoundly uncomfortable with making such decisions for others.
I find freedom to be inherently neutral. Freedom allows for people to pursue good for their own delight as well as evil. Although I do believe that freedom counteracts people's tolerance because it creates a society where there is a huge spectrum of people with voices on ethical values. But, I do believe that there is absolute truth out there no matter how many people seem to disagree with it. That being said, I don't really want to do anything on a large scale. Posting my opinion on The Escapist boards is probably as far as i'm going. I just deal with it on a case-by-case basis with people who I meet. You can shove as many pros and cons as you'd like at people, but as long as they feel an attachment and desire for something - there's no way they're giving it up. Which is why I don't really like to do anything on the large scale for the time being.

As for you. Thanks for the open discussion. :]

historicly kids have probably been exposed to sex much younger then they are today even with porn considering that for more of human history families would live together in single room houses

think about that for a min
Not to mention, people stay "kids" longer these days. Historically, you started your own family much earlier. And how do we start families, kids?

By screwing like bunnies, generally traditionally in wedlock (but not necessarily).

The last sixty years started to offer changed views, as that's when the age of consent laws and protection for young girls really started to show up (In the states and other Western cultures). The fifty years before that were also a pretty big step in that direction. People always tend to white wash history and match modern ideals (or the "right" ideals) with thinking of the period.

I could go on to talk about the effect of the industry on the actors and actresses involved, but i'm sure we can all agree that we would definitely not wish for anybody we care about to be involved in this business for their own good. What with all the chances of diseases, unwanted pregnancy, physical and emotional turmoil, and such. Right? :] Yes that's why i'll let the focus of this discussion be on you, dear porn viewer. But if you wish to include this factor in your response. Then go right ahead.

Actually, very actor/actress is pre-screened before each and every scene (unless done by a smalltime/incommpetant studio) and they actually make a decent living. If you enjoy sex that much I don't see the problem with it.

Despite being so popular (in the free world at least). It has perhaps unintentionally become the main outlet by which children get introduced to sexuality these days. Which seems to give public schools greater incentive to lower the grade in which sexual education begins. You could probably argue that exposing sexuality to children at such a young age has it's pros and cons but imo - It just adds more fuel to a nasty trend recently where kids' minds become eroticized before they can learn to truly find an appreciation for the ethics behind sexual relations. My take on your normal teenager in high school is that they are essentially hedonists, although most try to hide that fact. If you have any historical perspective on this sort of thing, its actually a recent development in the free world.~

Sexual Education is a necessity. And the sooner they learn and understand it, better. That way we can teach kids just how destructive sex can be.

We aren't teaching kids to have sex, we are (rightfully) teaching kids about the many ins and outs of it. As well as giving the MANY reasons why they should avoid it and limit any sexual feelings they have to a minimum.
Are you being sarcastic? Sex is how you were created! Or maybe that's what you were thinking of...

All jokes aside (and I was joking, honest!) I really don't think sex is destructive neccesarily. It can be used that way, sure, but there's good points to it also - say, as a means for bonding to a marital partner.

I agree with the whole point of educating ABOUT sex, not TO have sex though :)

The highlighted section point to you having traditional values, yes? Because if you do have traditional values, coming to a Gaming forum won't promote much discussion into considering your own beliefs because ours are so much different than yours.
Never really believed that humans are evolving in terms of values anyway :]

Wow, first coming from someone below 20, now thats a pleasant surprise!
Alot of my friends (ages 25-30) consider sticking their penis into any orifice while saying "I love you" actual love. I'm glad to see that, even if the numbers are few, the latter generations realize this is bull's excrement.
I'll have to buy a hat now, so I'm able to take one off out of respect for such early wisdom.
Win Music well deserved!

I have been exposed to quite a lot of porn yet while I was with my girlfriend I knew quite how to be intimate. How exactly is it thrown around easily? I think you're making teenagers sound dumber and more easily influenced than they are.
How many girlfriends have you had?

Violent crime is down. People are waiting longer to get pregnant. Condoms are more available than ever.

Sex is the most natural thing in the world. Wanting to fuck as much as you can as often as you can is in our DNA.

There is no problem here.
It is a problem when it becomes outdated. We should be moving towards a society where our population is controlled through artificial reproduction. Sex drives are a relic of a time before technology. And it is quickly going out of date.

From what I can tell, the pregnancy thing is actually a result of societal change. As having children is more of a personal hobby rather than a necessity as it used to be. A very expensive hobby at that. People are starting to realize just what the hell they are getting themselves into.
I don't mean to alarm you, but that that sounds insane. I'm all population control, but what you seem to want is a world devoid of sex. Am I reading that right?

Why not?

No reason to fear such a thing being given to the government. They have no reason to screw that kind of thing over. After all, assuming that the government is full of power hungry politicians, they need people to keep themselves in power. But too many people stretches resources thin. This would encourage them to keep a balance.
They already have that. It's called the Vatican

Correct.

Without sex drives, it isn't something that you would ever miss. My first plan was just sterilization. But that proved to be extremely problematic with sex drives in place.(Protests would arise out of personal body chemistry)

Wealth is what you do not need. And when people do not need sex, their lives become significantly less stressful.
Wow. I just...wow. Dude. That's kinda fucked up. I could kinda see where you're coming from, but at the same time I can't. Just out of curiosity, have you ever had sex?
