Kid was from Utah, and judging by his reaction, was probably raised as a hardcore Mormon. I can't imagine any other 11 year boy old giving up a chance for some violence and boobies. I know a couple kids who are Mormons, and they're very nice people, but their wholesomeness can be rather disconcerting at times.

Oh, also, some words to a couple of posters above me: First, Some Mormons still do practice polygamy. Second, the comic in question isn't manga; if you want to bash japanese comics there are plenty of other threads on the site where that's apropriate.

I love how no one has a problem with the large amounts of violence, but comic nudity inspires an "OMGWTF!" reaction from sheeple. Come on people, how can you act like nudity is worse than violence, and expect others to take you seriously? People need to think about what they're bitching about.

EDIT: Anyone notice the terrible green-screen in the movie? Part of the book was invisible :p

After the mother took away the comics and called the news, he went back to playing gears of war, COD, and GTA.

Lots of points in here.
You would think sex ed classes would be the obvious answer. Except parents can opt out of them. And then there is homeschooling. And Unschooling. So yeah.. not really the answer to our problems it should be. Sadly :(

Then again.. it is Utah.

To be fair comics nowadays have ratings. This is from the 80's. The mother should have checked the content before buying it anyhow. Reminds me of my friend's grandparents who went to see "American Wedding" thinking it would be a romantic comedy and not a toilet humour fest.

"Whoops" What's the big deal after they pulled it off the shelf? Is it really newsworthy?

Imagine then if she had actually read the comic. I've seen the Spectre on more than a few religious no-no lists even without nudity.

Seriously, keep this kid and his mother away from the manga section of the bookstore.

Alright, so being 10 he may not care about the tits (cartoons don't do it for me anyway) but what sort of 10-year-old boy turns down ultra violence?!
One that does not exist?

OT: That kid is a fool.

The mother is a fool, at least briefly scan the content to be sure what you are buying is actually child-friendly.

Either way, I am glad they haven't sued the store for it.

Well, the comic book was from the 80's. It was intended for a mature audience, and the mother should at least flip through it before buying.

But once again, it's from the 80's. No wonder people aren't making this a big deal, what would be done about it?

Ummmmm.....did the mother even LOOK at the comic before she bought it?

I dont think so.....

This is idiocy at its best.
It was in sealed plastic and she could baraly look at the cover. So is she the one to blame not entirely. It is who ever packaged it fault, the retailers fault, and the mom's.

Ok, I'm lost here...

How is it bad that a 10-year-old has seen a cartoon rendering of boob? I don't get it? He's seen the real thing at a much younger age, sucked on one for the first dozen-plus months of his life. So why is it bad now?

The prudish horseshit coming from the US and my own Canada never cease to infuriate me. Skin is just skin, get over it.
NOt as bad as Australia where they can buy porn and watch R movies but can't bye M games.

I agree with everything about people reporting this and whatnot. I do have two questions though: 1. What the hell is wrong with the parents that they spelled their sons name that way? 2. Did this get distributed to all Dollar Trees? Because if it did I'm headed to one tomorrow in the hopes that they haven't pulled their copies yet.

I've never seen comics at the dollar store since the early nineties. Then dollar stores didn't exist, we only had 99 cent stores.

Too bad the closest Dollar Trees around San Francisco are in South San Francisco where public transport sucks.

This is why we should force news back into the 4 half hour slots it used to have on regular channels, instead of having 24 hour news channels.

If they only had 2 hours a day to fill and someone called in with 'I saw a comic and I didn't like it', the news people would go 'sorry, we've got war, famine, worldwide financial disasters and a freakin' VOLCANO to report, come back in a thousand years and someone might care.'

Because there's multiple 24 hr news channels, it seems they're going 'kid, comic, rude, outrage? I reckon we can string at least half an hour out of that, thanks!'
