It isn't a ripoff guys! The scout in H.A.V.E is a girl but in Team Fortress 2, it is a guy!. Sometimes I swear people do not see the differences.. Haha

What is the Japanese unhealthy obsession with underage schoolgirls in stupid sailor outfits?

More to the point, how did they ever think people wouldn't notice?

I watched it and at first thought "Both are stylised shooters, this is OTT"

THEN on came the scout with baseballbat. THEN the sniper, with near-identical the same camera angles and animations as the Meet The Sniper snippet. I though "Oh dear, someone thought they had an original idea after they confused a memory of playing TF2 with their imagtination (I've done this with other things)

THEN ON CAME THE UBERED HEAVY.

OH MY GOD, KOREA, Get a grip!

I could see it as coincidence... right up until the sniper scene... blatant rip off there, and the heavy weapons gu-girl with the glowing blue uberch-orb was a little too um... yeah...

It does seem to have a lot of similarities Team Fortress 2 hovever it also seems like it takes some of its ideas from other games. The toy based fighting concept was from an old gamecube game called Gotcha Force and even on some dergree would be Custom Robo except with both of them a human was controlling the toys. For the people who are getting so mad about this, calm down already, alot of games take ideas from other games like how X Blades and even Ghost Rider for the PS2 copied God of War and they never became as popular as the original.

I just caught something from late in the Meet the Sniper trailer that matches this. Remember after the phone call with Sniper's dad he climbs the water tower.
"I think his mate saw me"
*Bullets starting coming his way
"Yes, yes he did"

In HAVE, the girl with the minigun that looks and sounds exactly like the Heavy's incidentally, starts gunning toward the sniper. Sniper tries to get out of the way, in pretty much the same way as TF2's.

They seem to have swapped part of Meet the Scout and Meet the Demoman too. In Meet the Demoman, the Scout gets wiped out by the sentry, here the girl with the rocket launcher next to the scout look-alike gets owned the exact same way. But the girl with the baseball bat dodges the M-Gun fire same as his video
At the very end of Meet the Scout, Scout does a jump Bonk right onto Heavy, in HAVE, it's the girl with the machinegun who gets whacked

The obvious pipe bombs, except apparently you zap then blow up into blue goo.

The similarities in just the trailer are really hard to miss. They may have swapped rocket jumps with trampolines and explosions are now blue but that was really the only technical difference I noticed. Graphics, pretty obvious. If they were to make this a mod for TF, I would be okay, but if not...

And what did it say on the side of the sniper, I saw the word United.

Having blind men touch elephants?

They're more perverted than I thought.
That's an old myth thing, where three blind guys touch an elephant and all come to different conclusions based on what they touched; e.g one comes to snake after touching it's.....trunk

OT; one part of this was TRIFORCE productions, can these guys come up with anything themselves. Although I don't think valve have to start worrying just yet, unless that quarter-life (sounds like an American arcade simulator) gets made

Let me count the similarities....
Blatant Scout Rip-off
Blatant Heavy Rip-off
Blatant Rocket Jump Rip-off
Blatant Uber Charge Rip-off
Blatant Similarities to the "meet the..." trailers
Grenade looks exactly the same as TF2 grenades...
Same Style Graphics

Thats a total of 7
Coincidence?
You do realize that people have been rocket jumping in FPSes since Quake came out in 1996, right? Maybe even in the Doom era, I'm not exactly sure.
While I do see many of the similarities pointed out, I am still mazed by the lengths that the "rip-off" crowd goes to sometimes. I recall somebody even commenting on the similar helmet a solider wears from one of the earlier threads.

I think your claims are decent enough so that you don't have to go scraping off the bottom of the barrle for arguments.

On a slightly different note, lets say that we can establish that this is a blatant rip-off. Then what? What should be done about it? What would be done about it?

Oh yes, because Valve totally invented the concept of combattants in multiplayer using weapons like a sniper rifle, bazooka, machine gun, shotgun, minigun, or grenade launcher. Its not like we'd seen all that before in 2001. Nope, before that, all online multiplayer had was sticks and rocks.

Honestly, get over them. The similarity is that there is a lot of action and the characters use weapons? What the hell is wrong with all of you?
This.

Seriously, it would only be a ripoff if they were trying tp pull off a post-Pixar effect. But they went in a different direction with the toy-anime look. Right now it's only a similar engine I expect being used.

I say give it a shot before calling out the mob. Am I right? Besides, we let this slide all the time in the game industry. X Blades anyone? Sonic Unleashed anyone?

Not class based its not ripp off.
Using bats as a melee weapon not a ripoff.
Using jazz/swing music not a rip off.

the trailer might be trying to capitalize on the high volume of frantic action in the TF2 trailer...but that's about it.

All things considered, yeah, this trailer probably is just a homage to TF2, and gameplay will probably be different enough that it won't be considered a rip-off. But either way, it's also a complete marketing FUBAR. If the trailer had been mostly original stuff, with just a few references to TF2 littered in there, it would have been just fine - people would think that they're similar, which is probably what they want us to think, but different enough to give it a second look. Instead this trailer, which is the first exposure most people will be getting to this game, is incredibly similar to the various TF2 promotional videos. The average person won't look any farther than that - they'll see an identical promo video and assume that they're identical games. Even if/when later gameplay videos come out and prove that the game is very different from TF2, the negative connotation of 'rip-off' has already been set firmly in many of their potential customer's minds. Also, "It's not actually a rip-off" won't get as much press coverage.

So in short, if it is a rip-off, it was probably doomed from the start, but if it isn't a rip-off then I'd wager good money that this poor advertising move just killed it.

I was skeptical when I read this. I mean Team Fortress 2 has many qualities from other shooters. At times one is bound to find similarities between games since there are so many things out there already used.

Buuuuut, then I saw the video. A few things similar is OK and I expect it from all games, but there is just one after another of similarities. The bat of a scout and the way it was used, the sniper shots and the similarity with the video, the incredibly ripped off and most obvious minigun (they could have used any other weapon, like a normal rifle, something futuristic, but a minigun? If it was only the minigun then perhaps OK, but united with the others it becomes a little too obvious), the rocket launching character in there was a bit obvious as well although many like to say since many people prefer rockets than rifles well it would be funner although even the character looked similar, and then the BIGGEST rip off, bigger than the minigun, the grenade off a demoman. It looked similar, although it blew up a bit different, he had the same weapon, and the character had ONE EYE, not to mention was black even. That is a complete rip off!

As I said, alone it might have been passable, seeing it might have been inspired by TF2, but there are just too many similarities ON THE VIDEO. It was a video after all. We have to see actual final gameplay instead of a trailer. Perhaps they will change it, now more than ever they should seeing too many people have seen and talked about it.

I'd still play it, who cares if its a rip off? BF Heroes also ripped off TF2 with the style.
But from the looks of it they copied the cartoon style and most off the weapons whereas BF Heroes just copied the cartoon style (although Demoman+Spy=Commando)

So they ripped a game off that was the N-th take (or rip-off) on a concept designed in the Quake era?

Fun fact: their explosions and rocket trails are IDENTICAL to the TF2 ones. Not inspired by or ripped off from, but direct copypasta from their game files.
