Why the hell would anyone intentionally go about raising virtual crops for fun - what's next, Cubicle Drone-ville, where you shepherd your virtual office worker through the grind of the ole 9-5?
As much as I'd like to rag on Dr Phil, I really have to agree with him here. Even in the field of casual gaming it's bloody terrible, and anyone who goes about lying to their family so they can feed their 'farmville addiction' sounds like they might perhaps both the lamest and most boring person on the face of the earth. For shame!
Well, if SIMS became popular, whom are we to judge. Even so, here's a good rule of thumb: only play games with ACTUAL ENDINGS!!!
Right, but The Sims was essentially an dollhouse that you could dynamically re-adjust and that would react to your actions - sure, the game is just "help incompetent NPCs go about their dull lives to escape your own dull life", but at least you are essentially playing god and can thus choose to smite your wayward children by removing all their toilets should the urge strike you.
In Farmville you pretend you're a farmer, only nobody is paying you and you don't get any exercise or fresh air.
The Sims is barely a game, more of a complicated toy really, but Farmville is just
simulated work.
Also we can judge all we want - we're an elitist sub-culture that looks down upon the benighted casual gamers, judging is pretty much what's expected of us.
