Wii U..... Really? Really?!
It makes more sense if you think of Nintendo's relationship with third-party developers until now, which has essentially been to "Wii on U".

You've been playing Battlefield 3 and Ninja Gaiden 3 for half a decade? I am impressed.

I have a bad feeling about this.

I thought the Wii was just barely acceptable as a party console, and this was aided by the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 were pretty much solo only.

So if you wanted a fun, goofy, system that you only intended to use a few times a month with a group of friends, the Wii was perfect.

If you wanted to play games, you chose the Xbox or PS.

The new system doesn't bring to mind, light fun at a party, as much as unwieldy controller trying to play real games.

Personally I love the Xbox 360 controller the best because it's size and shape fit well with my hands. The WiiU looks like it is more like holding a book than a controller, and as comfortable as I am with books, the design doesn't look like something that will blend well with games. If you add in the Wii's controller having it's simplistic and easy to hold design, and couple that with the "good for parties" aspect, it appears the new controller will single handedly cause the WiiU to bomb.

Let's face it, a lot of people bought the Wii because of it's family style and activity based games, and it's easy to learn/use controller. The new console has neither.

The only other group they can sell to, is the hardcore gamer group. Reality is, they have already lost that battle.

The WiiU is Nintendo showing up late to the game, with a system that does what everyone else was doing five years ago, and a controller that destroyes Nintendo's one saving grace, it's group friendly and simple style.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Its all sorts of cool right up until you remember you've had an Xbox360 or PS3 for a few years.
Exactly, I dont get why people are excited with this, these game will launch on the other consoles, the ones that already exist for years. Also, Wii-U wont be released this year so some games will be launched later then the other versions. Nintendo seems to be always one step behind.
Thats true but most people buy a Nintendo console in order to play First party Nintendo games. So the ability to play the same games as ps3 and xbox as well means I wont have to change consoles all the time.

Hopefully this console can remove the bad taste that the Wii sadly, left in my mouth. I was quite impressed. =)

Playing the first party Nintendo games isnt enough motivation to buy a new console, thats the only reason for anyone that has an Xbox or PS3 to buy it, and how many people dont own one?

This has (at least tentatively) persuaded me not to buy a PS3 or a 360 in the coming months. Not everyone has more than one gaming system. I'll more than likely be picking this up next year. Yeah, I'll be playing some games for the first time that have existed for a while. Are you interested in playing any of the God of War/Metal Gear Solid/Splinter Cell collections coming out for PS3 and XBox? Those games are going to sell.

The point Nintendo was making was that they aren't blowing smoke up our collective ass by saying "publisher X supports us." They almost always release their systems in the Fall, which means we more than likely have over a year until the release. Do you really think Nintendo and their recently reunited third parties won't hold some of their cards close to the chest until next year's E3, as they have with absolutely every single launch?

Prediction: Flagship Nintendo titles will be announced between here and then, and then delayed into well into 2013. Most of the 3rd party games already announced will be right on time, and we'll see more than a few surprises. Fingers crossed for F-Zero-Wii-X and Starfox-U.

So we had to wait 5 years to play those games, I wonder how long you have to wait before you can play Zelda and Metriod Prime. Trustfully I'm not behind the new console either a just felt like making a dickish remark.

If you dont own an Xbox or a PS3 why buy a Wii-U? It will probably be more expensive and have a lot fewer games. I really dont see the point unless you really like the first party games. Thats a perfectly good reason but c'mon, they are terribly late and I would prefer that they waited and just brought a true next gen console alongside with Microsoft and Sony.

impressive lineup, almost enough to make me overlook the godawful name of this console. Seriously, can you imagine yourself saying it out loud in the years to come?
Not that naming a portable console after a bottle of water is any better, mind...

So the launch titles are something the other competitors are already having and looks just as good as the current gen,has a blocky, HUGE controller and has a name that sounds like a 2 year old came up with?

Fuck that shit.

Saying "they all look as good as the PS3" isn't saying much when current gen consoles will be obsolete within the next two to three years. Meanwhile Sony and Microsoft will have consoles with more power, storage and graphical fidelity than anything they have now whilst the WiiU will be playing catch-up with last year's hardware. No thanks.

I can't belive that Nintendo, somehow, came up with a worse name than Wii, but other than that, I'm really, really excited for it. Darksiders 2?, Batman Arkham City?, Metro?, Ninja Gaiden 3?? Battlefield 3!??, I'm sold.

As long as it's more comfortable than the N64 controller, I'm cool with it. Also, I don't mind if it's a bit too heavy, I like heavy controllers, that's why I didn't liked the original SixAxis for the PS3.

With the right horsepower and third party support, Nintendo will offer many of the same experiences as their competitors and also have plenty of unique games that their competitors don't. They have a history of this. This system has the right horsepower and third party support. If Nintendo stays true to their roots, this system won't cost a great deal more than its competitors are currently selling, and the games will remain about $50 a pop.

Nintendo isn't late. They made a good business decision that was in many ways detrimental or limiting to its hardcore fanbase. No company is going to release 2 separate consoles in the same cycle. Instead, Nintendo is going to continue broadening the overall fanbase of video games (which brings in more developers and more money, which broadens our variety of choices in games), while also focusing more on hardcore titles. They announced over a dozen AAA titles just in the press conference. As I said, my decision is tentative. I don't want to spend $300-400 on a console and a handful of games now and do the same in several months. I'll wait and see what other news comes to light.

We can expect a flood of information to come in by year's end.

That is damn impressive. If they seriously beat PS3 in graphics with something called WiiU...wait a minute, is the name only a giant slap in the face to Sony and Microsoft?

Nintendo does seem to now be one step behind in the current hardware specs of other current gen consoles if they just announced a system that can now play games we've already been playing, but the new controller adds some interesting design opportunities for developers if it's used right and hopefully the WiiU controller isn't unwieldy, it's probably going to be about 8" wide which I think is the biggest console controller thus far. They would've been better off with handles like in the initial design plans we saw.

Though everything that came out of the sony press conference has gotten me excited, the Vita is a definite buy for me this winter and with it being compatible with the PS3 where you can cloud save your game on the Vita and Play it on the PS3 is an awesome idea, makes me want to actually pick up Ruin. Hopefully you don't have to buy the game twice, if you do that'd be lame =/
Yeh i wonder how they're gonna integrate it with PS3 becuase surely the Vita version of a certain game can't be the same as the PS3 version? I definately don't tink they'll make a customer buy the game twice but my biggest worry is the battery life, the thing looks powerful but its gonna be pointless if i can only use it for 5 hours at a time

The PS3 and the Xbox arent very expensive and you have a huge catalog of games since they have been around for so many years. The games for the Wii-U will probably cost the same as the games for the other platforms. Lots of old games for the other consoles are very good and still stand on their own (and they are cheap now), buying a Wii-U wont let you play those games and still only lets you play some games that are multiplatform and the first party titles of course.

I just cant recommend this console to anyone. it basicly says "Do the same of what you can do on other consoles except most of the stuff that is on the other consoles and play some of our games", so I think that it only depends on how much do you like the Nintendo titles.

The console just cant beat the other two in terms of content, while Nintendo has the first party titles Microsoft and Sony have their exclusives and the extended catalog of games from previous years. And most of these announced games will come first for Xbox and Playstation.
