I have a bad feeling about this.
I thought the Wii was just barely acceptable as a party console, and this was aided by the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 were pretty much solo only.
So if you wanted a fun, goofy, system that you only intended to use a few times a month with a group of friends, the Wii was perfect.
If you wanted to play games, you chose the Xbox or PS.
The new system doesn't bring to mind, light fun at a party, as much as unwieldy controller trying to play real games.
Personally I love the Xbox 360 controller the best because it's size and shape fit well with my hands. The WiiU looks like it is more like holding a book than a controller, and as comfortable as I am with books, the design doesn't look like something that will blend well with games. If you add in the Wii's controller having it's simplistic and easy to hold design, and couple that with the "good for parties" aspect, it appears the new controller will single handedly cause the WiiU to bomb.
Let's face it, a lot of people bought the Wii because of it's family style and activity based games, and it's easy to learn/use controller. The new console has neither.
The only other group they can sell to, is the hardcore gamer group. Reality is, they have already lost that battle.
The WiiU is Nintendo showing up late to the game, with a system that does what everyone else was doing five years ago, and a controller that destroyes Nintendo's one saving grace, it's group friendly and simple style.
