What? How does that even make sense? They have the script. They have the game design, they have the music, they have all the concept art... honestly, it'd take less than two years tops. What a load of shite.
Yeah, you are saying that because you are working in games industry and released multiple AAA game and also have good knowledge about developing games for different consoles.

Right?
Don't be such a smartass. If makes me look like a dick, but it makes you look like an even bigger dick.

I don't make games, shocker I know, but there's having the knowledge to make one and then there's common sense. If new current gen games can be made in under two years when they have toe write scripts, create maps, create fighting modes, create concept art, create characters ect. Final Fantasy, which to me doesn't seem like a very taxing game to make compared to some other titles, can be remade in a much, much shorter time. I mean, what do they really have to do? Create the maps? They already have the structure. Create the fighthing system? Copy the old one, it's what the fans obviously want. Come up with a new script? They already have one.

So, I make my point once more: don't try and be a smartass.

I'm not to sure the remake is a godd idea anyway, granted it was an amazing game but they would probably just ruin it

They released a movie, a sequel to the movie, two prequels and an animated OVA. There's no reason to remake FF7. Fans should just be happy with the expanded universe.

SO they admit thats thier main demographic?

Ya know..... you can develop FF7 as a proper remake then on the back end do a EX version which uses a simplified point to point orverworld ala FF13 and FFX and skips some areas altogether, make vehicle travel a cut scene. Shave some time here make the game flow faster and more easy easy----er "weapons". I think its win win all around.

BTW read between the lines: He basically said that games can't be complex anymore. No more long gameplay, no alternative routes, no big world with loads of unique stuff to do, extra party members you don't even have to meet etc...

Basically nowadays you can only have games that are very linear, shallow and short. The only way to make long gameplay, multiple choices and character interaction is to have loads and loads and loads and loads and loads of dialog, BioWare-style.
And even that is limited and under developed......

The longer they make people wait, the more likely that people will lose interest. Then Square will have cheated itself out of millions upon millions of dollars. I'm already beginning to lose interest in a remake, and FFVII has long been one of my all time favorite games. Ridiculous quotes like this from Square just make me lose respect for the company.

Thank god, hopefully now people will stop whining about it. Hopefully by the time those 40 years are up, it would have vanished from memory.

Considering how long it took to get FF13 out and how long it's taking FFv13 to come out, I don't think I doubt it.

The lazy bastards.

All I can think is "FF 13 was a quality game? My friend ended up returning his copy before he completed it, he was so disgusted. And he got good money for it and got something way better, Arkham Asylum."

I think someone needs to develop new IPs.

I think the real problem here is that there is that huge divide of generation of gamers. Those that have grown up with games since they were young and are now well adjusted adults that understand the the video game industry is a business. And then there is the FF7 generation where while they are mostly grown up they are so obsessed with their "first" big game(not actually their first but most hyped for the console generation when it was Playstation and N64 as the big two competitors) that they wish for that specific story and characters to grow and don't want characters like Cloud, Aries and Tifa to die but be immortal for all time.

This gigantic divide of gamers are those that know that franchises and stories die and it is best to move on and then there are those that are used to see that specific game getting the spin-off treatment over and over and over again. There to my knowledge has been a total of three spin-off games, the PS2 game with Vincent, the PSP game with Zack and the FFVII movie. So that generation who has been used to being loud because that was the current largest inception of gamers when video games were starting to be accepted as pop-culture and not the "nerd" hobby that it was known for.

The result is the fanbase that is nothing more than grown children used to getting what they want and a company that knows that in order to grow it needs to reach and create new games and new audiences while it wants to preserve that nostalgia and be conservative to treat the game and its reputation as a gem and icon to the video game industry's history.
Good post, though I will add that it wasn't a whole generation of FFVII fans, just a group who where in that generation who liked the game. Plenty of other people in that generation didn't care about FFVII.

Things Square Enix needs to do:

1) Remake Chrono Cross or make an alternate sequel. Or do something with the Chrono series already, dammit!
2) Un-Cancel that sequel to FFXII, Fortress.
3) Make a real sequel to FFT
4) Finally finish Versus XIII

So if they can't remake FFVII at this point, then do one of those things! If a remake to wait for the PS4 or whatever, wait for the PS4. Also, Square Enix, stop crippling yourselves with your own technology. Its embarassing. And stop whining about it. Make something else then.

By the way, why can't a sequel to FFVI work? It wouldn't be FFVII, but its as good as you're gonna get. A FFVI remake could actually make the game look like Amano originally made it. I don't like Amano's artwork, but its would make a cool-looking game. That wouldn't need much graphical power - it could be made on the Wii.

I don't understand why they wouldn't remake the game seems like tons of people want it. The developer must be afraid of making money.

Why in the name of the mighty Yog Sothoth would it take LONGER to remake FF7 (which they already have the script, characters, etc.) than it would to make FF13 from scratch? For that matter, why would it take longer than (Dirge of Cerberus?) It makes no sense.
