I only use critics to get a feel for something, a decent critic, of games at least, will describe the feel of a game well enough for me to decide wether or not it's the type of thing I'd like, which is all I use them for, so the opinion of a man who's job it is to watch movies doesn't weigh heavily upon me. I don't sleep clutching a plush Chewbacca. That said, I've read someone somewhere saying "people can't tell the difference between what is good and what they like", and it's the same fallacy of saying that, in regards to taste, there is, in fact dispute, and that the speaker is the bringer of enlightenment. Because in reality, there isn't, who are you (proverbial) to decide what constitutes "good taste"? I don't care if you have a column in a magazine or paper or if movie posters quote your reviews, you lack divinity, and that is all that need be said.
Also, is it a possible troll? Maybe he wants to make some commentary on geek culture and intends to use the reaction to his statement as ammo. Because this is like comparing Twilight to LOTR (literarily) in Twilight's favour, and Star Wars is like the geek true cross (we nerds love it too, but once again, no plush Chewies).
