So...I presume this is one of those situations where someone's attempt to defend herself backfires, and instead, makes them look even more ridiculous than before.

Hang on, did she actually mention any real Psychological studies from REAL psychologists(i.e., usual format - Springer, 1976)
Or did she just mention how she's whinged about video games or violence before?

I'm still curious about one thing, what games do promote sexual violence? I know about Rapelay (who doesn't?), and I presume there's others like that from Japan, But I can't say I've played anything in the more core western market like that, which is where something really has to be if you want to make an argument against it. Otherwise it's just fringe media for already crazy people.

There's games with sexist sexual content like Duke Nukem, and games with sex, like mass effect, Fahrenheit and GTA. But that's either for adolescent macho chauvinism, or part of building character relationships, so I'm just not seeing any connection.

Also, with the post columbine polls, were they before or after FOX started announcing that doom caused the shootings?

Media psychologist.

What more really need be said?

I want to applaud her for this incredibly deft manoeuvreing though:

"When the Columbine murders took place, there were national polls where people voted on what they believed caused the two young men to kill. Media violence ranked high on the list, so I, obviously mistakenly, assumed that people still knew about the studies showing this connection - and believed them to have proven the link."

Recipe for success:
1) Show a poll (or any other statistic) about what people believe about something
2) Act as though you're using the result as proof that people know about these issues, not proof that the conclusion of the participants is correct
3) Subtly combine the analysis of the poll that shows people to know about the issue with the faulty analysis of the poll that assumes the people are right about what they believe
4) ???
5) Profit (and I'm sure she will).

Her argument basically boils down to this: "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALA"

Dr. Carole Lieberman, the "media psychiatrist" who claimed on Fox News that videogames are responsible for turning people into rapists, has finally issued a statement defending her claim.
I stopped reading once a certain news channel was mentioned. Is anyone even honestly surprised anymore? Does anyone really care?

We're obviously not going to make them love video games, so I say let them hate, and stop treating them like they were a valid and credible news source anyone should even care about.

I await the days when all these old nay sayers are dead and we get to make outlandish unsupported claims about what ever fun new awesome thing our kids are playing with.

Somehow I think that FOX News gave her their guide on newspeak. The woman presents no studies, and fails to even name any, any real academic or intellectual would be ashamed by that.

So basically: Dr. Carole Lieberman, YOU WILL SIT AND FOLLOW THE PROPER PROCEDURES.

As far as I recall, Arnie made plenty of action movies after Last Action Hero... So what victory was there? I'm still waiting for these facts she claims exist. I didn't see any facts in that statement that pertain to the argument. As many have stated, a national poll is merely a popularity contest for a topic, not an actual fact.

I can't tell which is happening faster, my brain cells exploding from the overpowering levels of stupid or my brain cells committing suicide from those same levels of stupid.

Y'know I begin to think it's not video games which cause violence, but rather people that insist that video games cause violence are the cause of all the violence...

Lord knows, after I read her article, I was sure feeling a hell of a lot more belligerent...

Yeah, calling somebody a ***** and being agressive towards someone you disagree with makes your argument stronger, in particular, in this case.

I hope we don't anything more from this stupid bint.

I'm sorry, I really can't find any other descriptive words. Not even a glimmer of mention of the studies she was asked (maybe that's not the right word, but let's roll with it here) to show.

Huh... Apparently to her a "national poll" counts as a "study."
ROIGHT! Well then I'm going to have a "national poll" over the cuteness of bunnies and then call it a study!

I R DOKTOR NAO.

Included with the statement were links to her supporting evidence, which included the American Psychological Association's "Resolution on Violence in Videogames and Interactive Media [http://www.apa.org/about/governance/council/policy/interactive-media.pdf]," which called for a reduction of violence in videogames being marketed to children and youth
Sorry, What!? Since when are violent games marketed to children? There's a certificate on these things you know, and if you buy these games for your children, when they are obviously not mature enough to play them, then you have no-one to blame but yourself.
