RACING GAMES WTF IS THE POINT IN THEM?? they generally have no plot (and when they do it is nothing truly impressive). All you do is race cars over and over again, there is no drastic differentiation between them, if you own one you own them all.
I would love to enjoy them since they are so numerous, but I cant because they are so repetitive. If you enjoy racing games I recommend you just buy one good one and stick with it. Because they are all basically the same exact game, or better still go out and drive your own car. Or failing that drive a Go-kart or something.

Alpha Protocol.
It's an Obsidian RPG which means I should like it. I like all their other stuff. Best writing in the industry as far as I'm concerned.
For some reason I hate it. I don't know why. I honestly don't. Most of the stuff about it sounds really cool. But I get an hour or two in and I just want to stop playing. It makes me want to go and do anything else. Like accounts. Or defrag my hardrive. Or clean something. It's weird.
Indeed, first example that jumped to mind. There was so much negative buzz surrounding the game, but I didn't doubt for a second that I'd love it; until I played it for a half hour and the horrible characters (what a pathetic protagonist), writing and controls just made me want to break everything.

Because of the chorus of Alpha Protocol apologists here I actually fired it back up and played it through to the end; it's just terrible.

Going back a ways, there was something about Independence War and IW2 that I just couldn't connect with. I never understood why, I should have loved them.

Silent Hill 2.
I love horror, I love journey-to-the-center-of-the-mind plots, I love atmosphere, I love morally ambiguous characters, and yet...somehow SH2 just never clicked for me. It might have been because I was late to the party and had read a but-load of spoilers, but I honestly never found the game all that frightening. I remember first walking into town down the foggy lakeside path and hearing...something...moving nearby, and getting freaked out since I could only see about 5 feet in front of me and if something tackled me I'd go flying into the lake. And that was the scariest part of the game for me :/

Dues Ex Human Revolution.

I've tried over and over again but I just can't bring myself to enjoy this game. People tells me it's amazing, I just think that the movement feels very rigid and the AI is retarded.

Legendary.

Though it's more of the opposite of the thread: I want to like it, but it's not because of one bad thing that I don't, it's because EVERYTHING is bad with it EXCEPT for one thing.

I LOVE the concept of the game. Put mythical monsters from mythology into the modern day, and try to surrivie? Awesome.

But the gameplay is horrid.

Oblivion

Oh balls, was I disappointed when I played this game. The combat was okay, but the spike in difficulty was just so drastic it wasn't funny [small](okay, maybe it was a little funny, but only a little!)[/small]. Once I turned the difficulty slider down [small](which was pretty damn humiliating, mind you)[/small] by just a smidgen, it was the easiest damn game I played. But I still had the awkwardness of the leveling system to overcome. I wanted to mix a match my skills, but the only way to succeed was to go all the way as a thief, warrior, or mage, and even then it's nearly impossible, considering how some enemies are immune to certain attacks.

But, damn, am I so fucking thankful that Skyrim fixed all of that!

Thanks for the thought out answer. I kind of regretted posting that because I half-expected it to just devolve into insults as is so common on the internet. But you are right. People always complain that all modern FPS games are derivative or generic without realising that's just because FPS games are really limited in what they can and can't do.

Too Human. I love Norse Mythology and liked the futuristic concept, beat the marvel comics way of doing it IMO. The combat had some pluses and the side characters were fine. But the gameplay was just lackluster overall and the story just dropped in so many places.

I agree. The only thing cool about the series is the Gravity Gun.

My choice would have to be Mass Effect 3. I loved every second of it and was seriously thinking that it could go down in history as my favorite game ever but then the ending happened...

I tried so hard to rationalize the ending but it doesn't work. And before someone says "you just don't get it, Shepard was indoctrinated." No he was not.

Pretty much every MMO I have ever tried (except Anarchy Online, loved that one for some reason). I don't know why I keep trying. I know I can have fun with them as I absolutely love creating unique builds and testing them. I like looking at the lore present in any game world and find myself reading the info provided in game. The issue is, I just find them all so bloody boring that I want to claw my eyes out of my head after a week of playing.

Half Life 2
Demons Souls
Uncharted 3 (I dug it, then it just keeps throwing shootouts at me, again and again and again and again..I love the story sequences but having to shoot my way through 3243298 people bores me)
Assassin's Creed Revelations, oh god, oh my god is it boring.. It's the exact same as Brotherhood and ACII.. It bores me, even after i just played 3 minutes of it. Too bad.. I wanted to see how Ezio's journey ended..

Twilight Princess, I like Zelda games far to much , however Twilight Princess was just too easy I blazed through it first time without much of a challenge. Probably the reason why i liking Skyward Sword so much, for all it faults I'm willing to forgive a lot of them for making me genuinely stumped a couple of times.

Mass Effect. It sounded like something that would very much appeal to me - a Sci-Fi RPG with strong characters. But just..urg, I couldn't get into it at all. The intro just felt so boring and way too long. I figured "might just be a slow start, I'll tough it out". After becomming a specter and exploring the galaxy for a bit I travelled over two areas. That was it. I couldn't bring myself to believe the game would get any better after that so I stopped.

It was the excessive micro-managment, bland story, awful vehicle controls and the dialogue wheel that stopped me enjoying it. Apparenlty when someone asks you to hand over your weapons, selecting the "I don't want to hand over my weapons" option actually means you're going to threaten to shot the person rather than..I dunno...maybe tell her you're a friggen specter?!

Mass Effect 3

Absolutely destroyed the whole series.
And not just because of the ending.
And not because of Tali's stock photo.

If both of those things were fixed the game still wouldn't be any good. Which is a shame because I wanted to love it. The first two games are both in my top 10 games ever, and they're not any more.

Assassins Creed - I have started over and over again but just can't be bothered.

GTA4 - I tried so hard but just can't force myself play this through. I had fun with the previous one, though.

The Katamari games, I don't know why I don't like these games, it's got trippy visuals and music (always a plus), the 'story' is complete nonsense of the best possible kind, the controls are simple enough and the gameplay itself is arcady and fun. All the ingredients are there for something I SHOULD love but I just can't bring myself to play more then five minutes of any one game.

Both Batman "Arkham" games. I like Batman, I like videogames: I SHOULD like these. But for some reason, I just can't get into them. I think it's the cartoon-y writing. It's just a bit...ridiculous. And yes, I am aware that Batman is already about a grown-ass man who dresses up like a bat and fights crime. And when I was a kid, I LOVED the animated series. But for whatever reason, I just can't like these games.
