No...Internet: You got it all wrong

Y'see, the thing is, it's VERY EASY to get a young child to believe there is no god. I could understand (though lament) an anti-athiest block

However, young children, whilst impressionable, lack the understanding to develop religious beliefs if Jesus is mentioned in an article. It's easy to point out a lack of something (i.e. God), but it'd be hard to get young children to understand the concept of an invisible, omnipresent being.

On a slightly related note: I was really ticked off today to find out that Mecca is strictly forbidden to visiting from non-Muslims. I'd LOVE to visit that city! Shame...

I like it. The religious and otherwise anti-game come out with blockers like the ones commonly seen in schools, and now the opposite exists. I'm just glad it exists if only to show them that it can be done either way.
Thats a bit presumptuous, don't you think? The blockers they have in schools aren't there to to be anti game and religious, and where you got that idea I'll never know. The blockers are there to keep kids from going on Facebook and MySpace and such during classes and to keep kids from looking at porn. Trust me, I fucking hate the school system, and nearly everything about it, but these filters on school computers aren't there to be anti gaming or pro religion, they're there to keep kids on task.

And there really aren't many blockers out of schools meant to stop kids from gaming and such. Sure, there are some that will block gaming sites and such, but I dare you to find one blocker of the kind that ALSO doesn't block Myspace, Facebook, Youtube, ect.

It seems to me that you're anti religious already, and trying to link it to anti gaming to gain support. I mean, Im atheist myself, and I think this wrong. Let your kids be exposed to Christianity, Judaism, ect. They deserve to choose what they believe, and even if you don't like religion you shouldn't support this censorship, because if your parents had prevented you from even learning about Atheism, you wouldn't have liked it.

TLDR: These blockers (such as the ones in school) aren't here to be anti gaming or religious, they're for parents who don't want their kids to look at certain things. And hell, while I think its stupid to shield your kids, you have the right to do so, despite how immoral it may be.

To each his/her own. I'm a firm believer in the concept of accepting whatever it may be that you stumble across on the internet. If an individual REALLY isn't "supposed" to see something, they wont. Thats just kinda how life works.

Okay, documented, tested, proven, a law of biology and the one and only law in psychology.

Reducing your exposure to anything makes you more susceptible to it. The proper way to deal with everything is to discuss it with your children. Otherwise, in this case, you're setting yourself up for your kid one day starting to think his/her parents are agents of satan trying to squelch god's word.

So this blocks out religion but not Hardcore porn. So your kid can't read about Jesus, but he can watch porn, see violent images of death, and so on. This is stupid and pointless.

Speaking as a Christian, this seems more like a satire than anything else, trying to point out to the various religious groups who try to censor violence, sex, etc. that their religious texts are chock full of that very same stuff* and that they shouldn't so much be censoring it so much as moderating it in a healthy manner. Being raised in a sterile environment doesn't protect you in the long run; it just means you don't build up an immunity to it and become even more vulnerable.

As I said, it's still vaporware. I wouldn't be surprised if the software never emerged, and the entire thing was a hoax to spark controversy. Besides, while most sane people wouldn't develop software around a joke, I do believe you could get someone to develop software as a statement. This definitely doesn't strike me as an "Atheists will get a good laugh out of this" sort of thing, so much as it comes across as "let's see how Christians react to this, and maybe get them worked up into a severely hypocritical fury that makes them look like idiots". Lastly, don't forget that someone out there wrote lines and lines of code to exploit a vulnerability on youtube just to piss of Bieber fans.

As for your observation that not all Atheists are the geniuses I seem to be giving them credit for, I'll readily admit that a lot of Atheists are fucktards, if only because the laws of probability state that there are going to be idiots no matter where you go. I'm not too thrilled that all Atheists are still considered to be a people united, when we're just regular people that happen to not believe in something everybody else chooses to buy into, but I guess you've gotta take the bad with the good. For every smug shithead on the internet seeking out arguments with religious people, there's a Christian from Oklahoma holding up a "thank god for dead soldiers" sign and taunting grieving family members at a dead serviceman's funeral.

I love how so many people are taking this thing seriously. It's almost as amusing as the block itself :p

Thank God! Now I don't have to worry about accidentally stumbling upon any religious content while I browse the Escapist. For a minute there I was worried I may become irreversably brainwashed.
I do love that you said thank god :)
