Have you ever reported someone?

Do you report people a lot? How many times? What were your reasons for it?

I've been here a while now, and I've seen some people get reported for things that seemed innocuous, or for personal disputes. I've also seen alot of people get reported who deserved it, but sometimes it boils down to just a difference of opinions. Now, usually the mods just put them on probation, and I know the mods are the reason why the Escapist isn't a festering bog of retardation like the rest of the net. I just think some people are too happy with the report button, sometimes because they want to beat the other guy to it in an argument turned personal. So share your reasons and stories about reporting people.

Personally I only report the spambots.

Also, reporting me for making the thread isn't being ironic, it's being a dick.

A couple of times when it was justified.

The last time I reported some one they got suspended, it was in the "Girl Bullied to Death" thread. The user said, "She killed herself and nothing of value was lost, lol, she got pwned."

I don't report people because there's only one thing that really earns it in my opinion and that it trolling. And I know that someone else will report him anyways, so might as well leave that honor to them! If someone makes an audaciously obscene or offensive comment, I might, but there's a difference between being helpful and being a dick towards people just having a bad day.

Whenever I feel it neccesary, I don't tend to do it often, but if someone is disturbing the peace they need Mod attention.

When 4chan was here a few days ago, I was clicking the magical red button on pretty much every other post. Otherwise, not so much. Unless someone is being a dick to ridiculous degrees, I'm just going to leave them alone.

I've heard 2 people talk about 4chan invading over the last few days now. What happened? Did I miss something?

4chan took the March Mayhem competition a little bit too seriously, and so they invaded the site when it looked like Zynga wold beat Valve to the finals. The attack only lasted half an hour at most, so it was easy to miss--and be glad you did, because for that half hour or so pretty much every forum topic was filled with gore, demands of porn, trolling, etc. Luckily, they went back pretty quickly and the mods did a pretty admirable job of cleaning the mess up before it got too bad.

I'd prefer not to think so, but... yeah, it's entirely possible. Then again, I think Valve was actually in the lead in the polls when the attack happened. So I think that the /b/tards were just being a little bit stupid.

I report only specific things. People that quote something and write "this" provide no conversational value, and are only feeding their post count. (which matters, why?) I've also reported people seem to only ever smack talk, or talk down to others. Yaknow, if you say Half Life isn't that good of a game (with reasons why you think so), and that one guy leaps down your throat with spiked heals for it? I report that guy.

Sexist, homophobic, and mostly community poison all gets reported. I do use it. And I feel it's all justified.

I think I've done it once. The guy was a blatant troll and overall was ruining everyone's time here on the Escapist. I can assure you I wasn't the only one who reported him... Banhammer struck down quickly.

Um...not too often. I never report people who call me names etc. I find that rather amusing and just part of how things go. I have reported blatant racism on here. Other than that...i live by the code of "im a big boy and i can take it...reporting is for sissys". Thats me though.

I only report full on trolls that have the goal to annoy people.

I know I've been reported just because people don't agree with my opinion.I prefer the Warcry mods as to how much they let slide anyway.

I didnt report anyone yet in the escapist but I do report in other forums if I see its justifiable. Its not a measure I like to take. Usually I prefer to just ignore any offensive post and move along. Even if someone personally attacks me I just dont reply again.

Yeah reported my first person over the weekend it some troll in the zynga v valve thread.

I report blatantly overt racist remarks that don't serve to add anything to the discussion. If you want to explain why a racial stereotype exists and it's in context, great. If you want to degrade someone based on the color of their skin, you deserve to lose your posting privileges.

On most forums, I usually don't report anyone unless they spam long annoying messages and walls of useless text. So I hardly ever feel the need to report people.

I never see the point. If someone did something to truly need reporting then they probably won't change anyways. The only time I would ever consider reporting someone is if their offense was so blatant, and offensive as to actually shock me. So far not a single comment on this forum has succeeded in doing so (which is a good thing).
