Much like the gamers who are into these kinds of things, the harem maidens apparently like to watch overmuch.

*sigh*

the collective IQ mankind has apparently dropped another dozen or so points since the last time I looked.

Indeed, what is the point? Besides to use digital lesbians and rendered breasts to make a ludicrous amount of money more than what GoW III would have already made. Honestly, I feel ashamed by association to belong to the male side of humanity, because I know not just one, or two, but several cpies of the game will be sold based on that alone.

Just when I was hoping that humanity might have some hope after all... But no, implication of sex and a poor female actor voicing some uuhs and aahhs is still a surefire way to make bucketloads of money from gamers.
i don't think it's stupid, devs know people will pay money for digitalized boobs and spent about a day programing all that. tell me, who is stupider? the people who make tons of $$$ for programing that, or the people paying for it?

also, if it wasn't this making the planet stupider, it'd be something else.

and if you're watching this you have the internet. if you have the internet you can get gigabytes of free porn, making you even stupider if you pay $40-60 just for that.

I just skipped pgs 2 3 4 and 5 of this thread so maybe someone said it, but...

Ancient Greece had a lot of gay and lesbian stuff going on. In fact, in several cultures it was promoted in the army to literally love your fellow warriors because it was thought you'd fight better with your lover(s) by your side. Also, seeing as this is God of War and deals quite thoroughly with mythology, there is plenty of gods of sex. Perhaps Kratos found Aphrodite? I don't think something like this is completely out of context, nor is it inappropriate in an "M" game that features so much blood and guts and brutality. Having a little sex scene seems like just a little bonus. I prefer a unique scene like this to having some sexy heroine flaunting her stuff throughout a game because seriously, it's distracting. Also, while these girls look like "hotties" at least they're not sporting DDs and going full on porno.

So yea, sure, gratuitus sex scenes are unecessary but they're kinda fun. Like the shower scene in Heavy Rain - sure it shows you boobies but it wasn't tasteless (and I'm guessing you could choose to not go in the shower, unlike the first level where you HAVE to see Ethan's bare butt)

Well isn't that just ridiculous? I don't want to sound too prudish, but it's when I see stuff like this that I kind of miss the 8-bit era, when games were *mostly* about having fun. Yeah, I guess, in a way, most people are (very) entertained by this kind of thing, but it's really pathetic to get aroused by this, if you think a little about it. But, on the other hand, if you enjoy it, you probably won't think (about it), so I guess it's okay. I won't buy it because it's not really that fun for me, and this aspect of it doesn't do much to appease that feeling.

Oh I know. Believe me, I know. Perhaps, upon rereading your own statement and the post of mine you responded to, you can begin to understand why I said what I did? Because you have just answered your own question.

Or to put it more clearly: "who is stupider? ...or the people paying for it" -> "IQ of mankind has apparently dropped another dozen or so points"

Do you see it? The implied thought process that was behind my statement?

I don't see how the consumer is acting stupidly. The game is a form of entertainment. If people want some sexual content with their entertainment, so be it. It's their money and therefore they can choose to buy whatever entertainment they believe they will derive the most pleasure from. If a game contains sexual content and the consumer wants sexual content, its a win-win situation. If you dislike the sexual content in the game because you find it demeaning, buy a different game.

Well, at least this game will lead to more people who can use a controller with one hand.

[sup]I apologise for that. But I just had to say it.[/sup]
Speaking of which, whatever happened to the ASCII-grip controller for the PS1? (you know, the one you could use just one-handed, primarily suited for RPG-games á la Final Fantasy)

Perhaps some gamers would appriciate a revamping of one-handed game controllers for current gaming consoles with the rise of near pornographic scenes in games. You know, in order to let Miss/Mr. Right or Miss/Mr. Left (which ever prefered solo-mistress/lover the gamers desire most :p) free to do... "Other things" than fiddling with buttons and joysticks (and while I say "joystick" I don't mean it as a euphemism for something else).

Of course, this would be completely unecessary given the fact that the video-clip in the OP was more ludicrous/hilarious than sexy/hot. And actually I was quite surprised by this realisation, because usually im a sucker for passionate female moaning and panting. I'd go as far to say that it usually gets me going a lot better than seeing bared flesh ever does. (I guess it's a fetisch of mine)

One can only hope that the inevitable gag-factor of such a non-steamy sex"scene" was entirely intentional on the part of the developers. I'd be genuinely sad if a line like: "Ooohh, by the gods! Such power!" was written by someone actually thinking it would be seriously hot. And worse than that, one can only hope that the developers didn't seriously think that real gamers would get an enhanced sense of their own masculinity for hearing it. It would be seriously degrading for every party involved.

Sex is, after all, a socially accepted form of emotional outlet. Violence however is not. I'd prefer if games sticked to providing us with the latter rather than the former, because the former is easily enjoyed in reality, while at the same time being harder to execute in a digital fantasy in a convincing way. The latter tend to come with that pesky and annoying risk of being seriously injured or dying if attempted outside of fictional enviroments.

But seriously, it's nice to see some game devs are not that prude. Boobies and suggested sex are an important part of society. It's about time the industry recognized that. God of War and Mass Effect got the idea, but should work more on the specifics. Hot Coffee for everyone!!!

I think you're taking it a bit too seriusly. They probably only did it in the first god of war, because they thought it was funny. Then, as time went by, it was featured in Gow 2, so now it's become sort of a tradition in the series.
Quite possibly, but what is the point? Why spend money and time and effort on that?

How does it improve the gameplay? How does it advance the story? How does it add depth to the storytelling or characters?

GoW III will hardly be the perfect game when it comes out: no game is. And instead of polishing it, perhaps making the story a little more engaging or adding another attack to the repertoire of Kratos...

They used time and resources for that. And everyone will either think it as an excellent fan-yay moment or be too busy fapping to think of anything.

Besides, even if people would be fapping like crazy over them, it wouldn't lower their IQ.
The fapping part won't, not by itself, in that you are right. It is simply that it is indicative that poorly-executed, unrealistic clip about sex is still all that is needed for some to throw away their money. Seriously, it's like no-ones seen a half-naked woman before. What lowers the IQ is that that short clip will be enough to spark flame-wars, will feature in a lot of wet dreams and that a fanbase will grow around that short, pointless, poorly executed clip that adds nothing of value and fails to qualify as art.
For someone who calls themselves SakSak, you are really making a big fuss over a little sex scene. Lets get some things straight. First of all, every sex scene doesn't need add anything to the gameplay, character development, or anything else. It is there to give the consumer what they want. In this case, a lot of violence and sex. Secondly, this clip won't lower anyone's IQ. If it did, the internet would rendered all of mankind unable to function let alone with its near infinite amount of porn. Finally, why should the fact that some people might like this clip be a bad thing? Flame wars already lower IQ and I doubt this clip will stay in anyone mind long enough to gain a real fanbase. It is okay if you don't like it, but don't treat it like it is a threat to humanity. It is just more porn. CHILL!

Why the hell is everyone freaking out about a sex scene... A: there was one in the first one B: there was one in the second one C: it's a series literally based around MURDERING everything, how did the story have any respectability. It's the god damned action is what makes the game amazing, and from playing the demo, i think i got more horny ripping off the head of *will not say* than the video itself... although i did say to myself that i would warn whoever is in the room if i happened to get to that spot with people in attendance.

o and the reason why i was aroused at the beheading of /mumble is because of how gorgeous it looked. not a psychopath or anything... yeah that's it... NOT a psychopath

Wait, what?

Suggested sex = "an important part of society"?

Please tell me you're joking.

I'd say that ACTUAL sex is an important part of society. Suggested sex is more like an important part of cultural expression. Mostly because I have yet to see/read about a single sex scene in any movie or book that actually provide something for the overall story.

Doing a scene fade-out and imply that two characters are doing the horisontal tango, might be considered a bit "dull", but it sure as hell is an effective and safe bet, as long as the creative minds behind the story focus on more important aspects of the story. To be honest, there's nothing as tacky, cheesy and ridiculously degrading for any story than including overly graphic sex scenes, mostly because I don't beleive that there's actually any actors that can actually pull it off and make it seem believable, and even if that obstacle is overcome there's still that pesky little problem of actually making the portrayal of the sexual encounter into something integral and important to the story.

Just my two-cents on the matter, and of course I don't know if you were entirely serious with your statement, so im not passing final judgement yet. :)
