I speak French and I HONESTLY thought this thread was about how to properly cut bread for a split second before I looked at myself and said "No...no that's stupid, and you're stupid for thinking it Stupid McIdiothead."

I cope with pain fairly well. Dislocated my knee 5 times and now just pop in back in myself if it happens, so I guess that's something?

Sleep, or inflict pain in a different area to remove said pain that is inflicted

Well first, I hire the Russian mercenary, Demetri Radanov, to take a few of his men to the local government office and round up some lofty officials. Then, I inform him that he may use his beloved 'Shallishaska' on the prisoners until the United Nations gives in to our demands. Finally-

WHAT? You said coup, and that's how you do one with physical pain! I KNOW he meant COPE, but it was funnier this way!

Drugs.

That's really the extent of me getting over something, if I'm upset I take whatever I'm in the mood for, whether it be cannabis, alcohol, prescription painkillers or something stronger.

Usually painkillers but if that's not an option I just swear or cry. With a pain like breaking something its usually swearing, but with, um, lady pains its a lot different (really so much worse than you guys think it is) I never no how to react so a bit of wailing and screaming, then my body takes over and deals with it with throwing up, overheating and sweating, panic attacks and nervous reactions where I can't feel or move my legs properly. Yeah, it's not a nice image but you asked about pain and that's the worst pain I've ever been in. And it happens often -.-

I park the coupe in the chicken coop, then go inside and play co-op with my bro as I help him cope with his ex. Then I make my special soup that I call coup because it's a chocolate soup.

With physical pain I find myself counting musical notations in my head to keep my mind off of it. I had to do this once when I was getting a tooth drilled and the numbing medication wouldn't work. They told me they couldn't put me under and that one way or another they would have to drill the tooth. So they did, and though I was in a lot of pain, somehow running music through my head and making a very forced mental note of each beat kept me from immense agony. I have to admit though, it did not resolve my pain, it only helped distract me from it. Still, it works even today with other things and that's not so bad.

As for mental/emotional, I just put it away. Its not like it builds up, but I can put in in a 'box' if you will, and then stow it away. I can open the box from time to time to look at what bothered me, but at that point I'm just an observer to it rather than a recipient of it. Strange maybe, but it works for whatever reason.

I usually deal with it on a mental state. I try to take myself out of the moment and stay focused on either a certain thought or feeling not related to physical pain. I learned how to do this by being phsyically abused by my mother, father and older brother right around age 4. After my brother beat me to a certain point when I was 9, I lost most feeling in my left forearm. Beside that, military training gets you used to both pain you'd feel from it being inflicted on you and when working out.

But when I got into Kung-fu, my Sifu did "conditioning" on my body, striking areas of my body, over and over until the pain receptors in my body would be dulled. This mainly came into realization when a car ran into my left leg and the most I did was go "Mrrgh!" and look at the driver. So yeah, at the risk of sounding off, a life time of phsyical abuse, beatings, a stabbing, being shot once got me used to it and I can take my mind out of it.

Just sitting and bearing it. I don't like to make a fuss unless I am in insane amounts of pain.

Emotionally: I have a really good cry by myself, in my office. I usually feel a lot better. However, I tend to bottle up my emotions.

Physical Pain: I've never taken any prescribed painkillers for physical pain, even when I had a quad accident and it was suggested that I probably should have. I hardly ever take headache medicine. I've taken Ibuprofen before, but that was more for swelling, then pain. I just kind of deal with it until it goes away. But if it grows increasingly worse and I can't function in my day to day anymore, then I do seek medical help. But even then, I'm still wary of taking anything,..even if prescribed.

I do however, use New Skin on most wounds, like a boss. But it's not a painkiller, it's an antiseptic. It feels like you poured acid all over the wound.

Loop Stricken said:
I don't coup with pain at all. I coup with chickens.

And then I count. I count the coup.
I don't coup with pain or chickens. I coup with the CIA against an oppressive government.

I coop with chickens.

I cope with pain.

I can't take emotional pain too well though. I start second guessing if I am a good person or not, or even if I deserved or caused most of what my family did to me from a possibility of being a bad person. I've yet to been able to filter out what people reflect from themselves to me, verbally. That actually hurts.

I make intimidating grunts like this http://vocaroo.com/?media=vivMCx9rlcNLQkalk

For the physical pain, for emotional I cry, but my threshold is pretty high.

I Cope by swearing. Repeatedly. Obscenely.
I fell off a wakeboard once and cracked my head so hard on impact with the water I blacked out for a moment. I couldn't move for a few seconds I was so stunned. My colourful language could be heard 50 metres away over a boat engine.

Swearing, if it's bad enough or super sudden, like stubbing my toe.

Mostly, though, I try meditative breathing (oxygen is your friend!) and various mantras depending on the pain.

It's amazing how peaceful, positive thoughts help. Got the idea from a new-age-y book my BF's mom has. Different ailments have corresponding psychological causes and a positive phrase or "new thought pattern" to say to yourself to change it. I don't really believe in it, but every time I look through the darn thing it's right... o_o Granted it can't cure cancer or anything, but at least it helps make you feel better about stuff.

TL;DR
-Breathing
-Relaxing thoughts

I treat physical pain like it's the end of the world especially if it's something small.I complain about it till everyone gets pissed off. Then I go and brake a bone and I watch everyone panic trying to help me with it and I keep exceptionally calm and quiet telling them what to do.That's how a real man takes it.

Emotional pain is different.I curl up and eventually go to speak with a certain friend. Then I usually get mad or just do something else or I say "bugger it all" and I slowly go numb to it until I can continue with my every day life. It's fairly hard to cope with and it happens often.
